章 44: Chapter 44

“The Bonheur, please.” I didn’t have to ask myself how much of tonight’s happenings I wanted to tell Mark. What I had to decide was if I wanted to inform him now or when I saw him. I took out my phone and hit one on speed dial. The call went to voicemail, and I imagined Mark was out schmoozing again. That made the decision for me. “Hi, babe. I’m on my way back to the hotel. It’s been a long day, and I plan to go right to bed. I’ll tell you about how the evening went when I see you. Varlebena.”

I disconnected the call and put my phone in a breast pocket, then leaned my head back against the seat.

Between being on the go nonstop for these past couple of months and then flying up to New York at a moment’s notice, I’d barely had the time to catch my breath. I was looking forward to bed. And I was really glad I’d be flying home tomorrow.

MY FLIGHT LANDED at National the next afternoon, and I was relieved the past two days were behind me and I was almost home.
