“He is,” Ridley started to say, then caught himself.
Joe covered his mouth to contain a giggle and gave me a thumbs-up.
I caught a glimpse of Mark’s face from the corner of my eye. He wore a proud grin and gave a similar thumbs-up, and I bit back my own grin.
“That’s none of your concern,” Ridley snarled. “And you could have informed me sooner that you had the brat.”
“I’m informing you now, aren’t I? We just arrived at LaGuardia and should be in Manhattan in about forty-five minutes.”
“Take the FDR Drive. You’ll get here faster.”
“Okay, boss.”
“And bring the brat directly to Dr. Gautier’s office.”
“Sure.” I hung up to find Joe and Howard staring at me. “Is something wrong?”
Joe grinned at me. “You sounded just like Dad.”
“You did, Mr. Mann,” Howard agreed.
“Never mind,” Mark said, although he was trying to contain his grin. “Get in the SUV.”
“Mark.” He hadn’t heard the other side of the conversation. “Ridley wants us to go to Dr. Gautier’s office.”
