Long Ling'er gave a slight smile and said, "I don't deserve such praise. You also shouldn't call me a Great Archmage. I haven't taken the advancement test yet. This is a requirement of my father. He insists that none of his disciples are allowed to take the test and wear the badge until they reach the Great Archmage realm. This is to avoid embarrassing him. My father is quite formidable. If you pass the test, I can introduce you to him. From now on, you can just call me by my name. I am Long Ling'er, but everyone calls me Ling'er. Interestingly, like you, I too am an Ice Mage. Why aren't you wearing a magic robe? Without it, how can you represent your identity as a Mage?"
Nian Bing pretended to appear bitter, and said, "I have always dreamed of becoming a Mage since I was a child, but my family was so poor. I could only seize opportunities to teach myself. Once, I unintentionally encountered a Mage, who told me that I have an Ice Attribute constitution. He taught me how to meditate, and I cultivated according to his method. Eventually, I did acquire magical abilities. However, the Mage only taught me meditation and no spells. So, as of now, I only know some basic Ice Magic."
By this time, they had passed through two entrances and come to a large hall. Since the building had a sharp roof, the hall appeared very tall. It was about two hundred square meters in area. Various murals were placed on the walls with various patterns, most of which were Mages in magic robes and some magic items. At the center floor of the hall, there was a circular area with a diameter of five meters. Inside the circle was a hexagram; the six points of the hexagram were white, blue, red, green, yellow, and golden colors, symbolizing the six mainstream categories of magic.
When Long Ling'er heard Nian Bing's story, her eyes immediately showed a look of sympathy. She comforted him by saying, "That's alright. For a Mage, cultivating magic power through meditation is the most important thing. Magic power is the foundation of all magic. As long as your magic power is strong enough, coupled with spells, you can naturally use higher-level magic. As for the magic robe, you need not worry. After passing the test, we will naturally give you one. However, you must be at least an intermediate Mage to join our Guild, otherwise, you'll have to continue cultivating on your own."
Nian Bing nodded his head, thinking to himself that he must at least be an advanced level Mage. Even if he didn't know advanced Ice spells, he still knew one or two Fourth Rank Ice Magic spells. Facing the test should not be a problem. "Thank you, Miss Ling'er. If I hadn't met you and Senior Ling, I really wouldn't know how to join the Mage Guild."
Long Ling'er smiled and said, "There's no need to thank us. Even if you hadn't met us, once you joined the guild and registered as a Mage, someone would naturally receive you. You must try your best later. During the test, no one can help you. Everything depends on your own strength."
Nian Bing nodded firmly and said, "I will definitely pass the test."
Just then, the sound of footsteps rang out. Nian Bing and Long Ling'er both turned to look behind them. They saw Shi Jue walking in with an elderly man dressed in a blue mage robe. The old man had snow-white hair and looked to be in his sixties or seventies. On the left side of his chest, he wore a mark. It was a mark that Nian Bing was all too familiar with – the same Mage Instructor mark his own father wore – indicating that he was either a Water or Ice Mage Instructor.
Shi Jue was the first to arrive at Nian Bing's side, saying, "You're really lucky. Today, Teacher Li De just happened to be not in meditation. He is a Water Sorcerer. You should quickly show your respect." In the domain of Mages, ranking is of great importance. If there is a gap in rank, one must bow in respect. This was something Nian Bing learned from his father. He respected the strong, and promptly bowed to the elderly man, saying, "Hello, respected Magic Instructor."
The old man didn't seem to be particularly fond of speaking - he just grunted in acknowledgement.
Shi Jue respectfully said to the old Mage Instructor, "Teacher Li De, may we begin now?"
The old man assessed Nian Bing from head to toe, extending his hand towards Nian Bing and said, "Use your magic power to launch the greatest attack towards me. I need to know the extent of your magic power."
Nian Bing agreed and extended his right hand to grasp the wrinkled hand of the old mage. He carefully controlled the ice magic power within him to separate from the Fire-Ice co-origin vortex and aimed it at the old mage. He did not want others to know that he held dual magic powers, so, while attacking with his ice magic power, he tried his best to conceal his fire magic power to avoid being detected by the opponent.
The cold magic power acted on the spiritual power and transmitted through the arm towards Mage Li De. When Nian Bing's magic power reached his arm, since it was always spinning, it drew in the ice element molecules in the air, naturally attracting the ice elements in the air to attack Li De.
Blue light emitted from Nian Bing's body. The mere external display of this magical glow proved that he had at least the strength of an Intermediate Mage.
Li De, whose eyes were originally half-closed, suddenly opened them. He peered at Nian Bing with surprise as he felt the magic power continuously rushing towards him from Nian's hand. His surprise heightened as he clearly realized that the magic power from this young man, who looked about the same age as Long Ling'er, was extremely pure, without any impurities. Moreover, his magic power was quite solid, and after transferring into his own body, his water magic power found it hard to dissolve the concentrated cold aura. Also, that ice magic power was slightly rotating when it came out, like an unstoppable river. With Li De's strength as a Magic Instructor, fighting against this unique ice magic power was a bit strenuous.
"That's enough." Li De suddenly spoke up, lightly flicked his hand and Nian Bing felt a gentle surge of energy washing over his hand, pushing it away from Li De's. Li De looked at him with a slight frown and asked, "Tell me, who is your teacher?"
Lowering his head, Nian Bing responded, "Respected Magic Instructor, I don't have a teacher. I just once studied meditation from an unknown mage, and then I kept cultivating myself through trial and error. So, can I pass the test now?"
Li De's eyes emitted a strange glow as he said, "Whether you can pass the test will depend on your future performance. Now, use your proudest magic, that is, your highest-ranking magic to attack me. Remember, magic control power is a very important part of magic. If you can only release magic without effectively controlling it, then you cannot become a qualified mage."
Other than his father, Nian Bing was getting guidance from another mage for the first time. He promptly nodded in agreement. Without making use of the Ice-Snow Goddess stone, he raised his hand and chanted aloud, "Oh, Great Ice-Snow Goddess! Please lend me your wrath, guide us to the lost shore."
Hearing his spell, Li De showed no reaction, but Long Ling'er and Shi Jue looked at him with surprise. Whispering to Shi Jue, Long Ling'er said, "Elder brother, this should be the spell of the blizzard! Blizzard is a large-scale, Fourth-Rank ice magic. I only mastered it not long ago. Since he can use this magic, his magic power should not be lower than mine. It seems that our decision to let him take the test was indeed correct."
Shi Jue looked a bit displeased, scoffed, and said, "It depends on whether he can really use this magic. Maybe, he just barely managed to chant the spell, trying to bluff his way through. What use is all form and no substance?"
Under the effect of the spell, the temperature of the air dropped sharply, visible blue light points continuously gathered towards Nian Bing's body. Although he didn't use the Ice-Snow Goddess's Sigh which could be used as a magic wand, years of cultivation with the Ice-Snow Goddess Stone had made his mind connected with the gemstone--even if he didn't use it directly, the effect was only slightly diminished.
Blue light points floated around Nian Bing's body, flashing one after another. They started to rotate quickly around Nian Bing--Blizzard was Nian Bing's best fourth-rank ice magic. Because when the blizzard was spinning, it subtly corresponded with the co-origin Fire-Ice magic power inside him. When using it, he could save some magic power.
