章 16: Chapter Sixteen
Carmen's POV:)
I got to the hotel In the evening and met a pissed off Charles smoking cigarette in my room. Who smokes cigarette inside a room seated in a bed?. From his countenance I could tell he was fuming in anger right now cause as I entered our eyes locked and his eyes had laser in them. I tried to explain and smile myself out of it when he abruptly stood up, crushed his cigar on the room floor, walked straight to me and hit me on the face.
I saw the way he walked towards me like a man on a mission but not once did I think he'd stoop as low as to hit a woman. I never imagined he was monstrous to that extent.
Charles just slapped me ! And it stung !.
Immediately he did I tried to hit him back but he was faster and dodged. I couldn't shrug off a man hitting me so I used my leg to kick his but he didn't move or flinch at the at that impact. Rather it angered him the more.
"How dare you disobey me Carmen" he roared with his eyes flaming red now and the place he hit really stung bad I felt like crying from the pain and the glare in his eyes.
He held me in a choke hold and I fought to release myself but it was really hard as he was much bigger than I was. He released me when I was on the brink of death and I swallowed as much breath as I could inhale.
I almost died! At the hands of Charles!
"Listen...when I tell you to" he warned.
"The deal is off Charles take your stupid face and plans out of my life and I'll sue you, I know you're powerful in that work of yours..." i said breathing hardly, bending own to catch my breath. I was ready to throw everything away now. One thing I hated the most in my life was abuse. I hated being around abusive people so much. I hated being around people that were more powerful than others and used that power to intimidate and suppress others. I hate Charles now if I had the power I swear I'd beat him to a pulp right now...I'd kill him too.
"Do you love Becca ?" He asked out of the blue.
"Why the fuck are you bringing my sister into this ?" I angrily spat at him.
"She's my trump card sweetie" he smiled placing a hand on my shoulder which I shrugged off.
"What the fuck do you mean" I asked getting worried from the gleam dancing in his eyes. He held my shoulder again with more strength, putting me in place so I wouldn't shrug him off.
"Hmmm truly you didn't go to college but at least in high school and even every day life experience teaches us NEVER TO SIGN A CONTRACT WITHOUT READING" He said staring straight at me as my eyes juggled between both of his.
"What do you mean signing without reading. I...skimmed...through " 'did I really skim through, I was desperate back then to get out of the cell to have bothered to pay attention to details at that moment.
"You foolishly signed the custody of your sister over to me Carmen and if you want the deal off fine...I'll sell her off to a..." He spilled.
"Shut up Charles I don't believe you, you're just messing with my head....a manipulator that is who you are" I don't want to believe him. I signed what ???? My heart was thumping rapidly and i feared blood could gush out of my skin pores any moment now.
"You look too smart to be so dumb Carmen and if I wanted you could vanish off the face of the earth...right now"
"Stop bluffing Charles I'm done with you" I said trying hard to believe in myself...believe in my word.
"Don't be in a haste Carmen, Mark will be here in a bit with the copy of the contract where you signed off your sweet sister"
I was getting scared right now, one thing I knew about Charles was that he didn't bluff. He said things he was capable of but how could I have been so dumb, so dumb.
How could I do that to my own sister.
"If I really did then you tricked me into signing and you can be taken to court for trickery" I said, Hindi g hope in my case.
"Should we try that and see how it goes"
"Yes cause on what grounds and what relationship do I have with you to sign my sister over to you"
"Okay let's say we get to court I can easily label you a mental patient and Carmen you know you've committed identity theft and fraud too. I have the power to get myself out but think who would believe a penniless fool like yourself and if you're convicted trust me I'll make you rot in there and while you do, feast yourself with your imagination about what could happen to your sister" He threatened and realisation dawned on me.
"I'm sorry...I really am. I'll never disobey you again I swear it" I plead with him. Shit was getting messy right now. Truly he had the power to sleaze himself out of any scenario meanwhile I had no one.
"That's a good girl but why do humans need to hear threatening before they get to use their senses" he used his finger to poke my head as he said.
"I'm sorry" I felt so pathetic apologizing to someone who hit me. Someone who had caged me and could ruin my life at any moment.
Carmen has fucked up big time.I shouldn't have gotten myself into this mess.
Charles exited the room and I curled on the floor where I stood earlier and sobbed. Later on Mark came in and I sat upright and sniffed.
"What happened to you ?" Mark asked touching my cheek, the part that had gotten red from Charles slap.
"He hit me" I said to him and I could see care in his eyes, the very first emotion from this man.
Mark stood and went to the cupboard where a first aid kit was kept and brought it to me. He applied some ointment to the tinted cheek. I watched him throughout with tear filled eyes but he refused to meet my eyes.
When he was done he handed me the file and left the room. I was so scared to open it, to meet my reality. How could I have done this to my sister ?. I shouldn't throw blames but it was Caydens fault if only he was here I wouldn't have been in this mess. I bravely opened the file praying and hoping with everything fiber in my being that I haven't fucked up.
Truly I had signed the contract and it read I was mentally unstable to take care of my sister.!
