章 1: THE ARRIVAL AND THE DENIAL

In the busy streets of Lagos, Nigeria, two young people, Kolapo and Folake, found themselves drawn to each other. Despite coming from different backgrounds, they were soon inseparable, falling deeply in love. But their love was not without obstacles.Folake discovered she was pregnant, and when she told Kolapo, he panicked. He was not ready for fatherhood and wanted nothing to do with the baby. But Folake was determined to keep the child, and so she gave birth to a baby girl whom she named Omotolani.

Despite Kolapo's rejection, Folake decided to keep the child. She was determined to give the baby the best life possible, even if it meant raising the child on her own.As Folake's pregnancy progressed, she began to show signs of stress. She was worried about how she would provide for the child, especially since Kolapo was unwilling to help.

As the weeks passed, Folake's worries grew. She was struggling to make ends meet and feared for the future of her unborn child.Kolapo, meanwhile, had cut off all communication with Folake, leaving her to face the challenges of pregnancy and impending motherhood alone. But just when things seemed hopeless, Folake received unexpected support from an unlikely source - Kolapo's family.

Kolapo's parents had heard about Folake's pregnancy, and despite their son's rejection of the child, they felt compassion for her. They offered her a place to stay in their home and promised to help her care for the baby once it was born.Folake was overwhelmed by their kindness and accepted their offer gratefully. She moved into their home and began to prepare for the birth of her child.

As Folake's due date approached, she began to feel more and more nervous. She knew that the road ahead would be difficult, but she was determined to give her child the best life possible. Finally, after nine months of anticipation, Folake gave birth to a healthy baby girl. She named the baby Omotolani, which means "one who is fit to have wealth" in Yoruba, as a symbol of her hope for a better future for her daughter.

Despite the challenges ahead, Folake was filled with joy and love for her new daughter. She spent the days following Omotolani's birth bonding with her, learning to care for her, and dreaming about the kind of future she wanted for her.But just as things were beginning to settle into a routine, Folake received a visit from Kolapo's father. He had come to see his granddaughter, but also to deliver a message.

Kolapo's father sat down with Folake and told her that Kolapo had no intention of acknowledging his daughter. He wanted nothing to do with the child and would not provide any support.Folake was devastated. She had been holding out hope that Kolapo would come to his senses and accept his child, but now that hope was gone. She turned to Kolapo's father for support, asking him if he would help her raise Omotolani.

Kolapo's father was silent for a moment, considering Folake's request. He knew that helping to raise Omotolani would mean going against his son's wishes, but he also couldn't bear to see the child suffer. Finally, he agreed to help Folake raise Omotolani, on the condition that she never tell Omotolani about her father's rejection.Folake reluctantly agreed, feeling that it was the best she could do for her daughter. And so, with the help of Kolapo's family, she began to raise Omotolani in Lagos.

As a university student, Folake found it difficult to balance her studies with raising a young child. She was constantly exhausted, and her grades began to suffer. With her final exams approaching, Folake knew that she needed to focus on her studies. She made the difficult decision to ask Kolapo's parents if they would be willing to take care of Omotolani for a while.

Despite their initial reluctance, Kolapo's parents agreed to look after Omotolani while Folake focused on her studies.Omotolani was enrolled in a nearby preschool, and Folake visited her daughter as often as she could. But as the weeks turned into months, she began to feel a growing sense of guilt and sadness at being apart from her daughter.Meanwhile, Omotolani was thriving in the care of her grandparents. She loved her new school and made friends easily.

As the months passed, Omotolani began to think of Kolapo's parents as her own. She called them Mama and Baba, and they doted on her as if she were their own child.Despite their love for Omotolani, Kolapo's parents couldn't help but worry about the future. They knew that they couldn't keep Omotolani forever, and they didn't know what would happen when Folake finished her studies and came to take her daughter back.Meanwhile, Folake was working harder than ever to finish her studies and graduate.

Months passed, and Folake finally graduated from university. She was excited to begin a new chapter of her life, but she also knew that it was time to bring Omotolani back home. When Folake arrived at Kolapo's parents' house to collect Omotolani, the little girl was thrilled to see her mother. But as they began to pack her things, Omotolani realized that she didn't want to leave her grandparents.Folake tried to explain that they were going home, but Omotolani began to cry and cling to her grandparents.

As the scene unfolded, Kolapo's parents grew increasingly upset. They didn't want to see Omotolani upset, but they also knew that they couldn't keep her forever.Folake, seeing the distress on everyone's faces, decided to make a compromise. She proposed that Omotolani stay with her grandparents for a little while longer, until she was ready to come home.Kolapo's parents readily agreed, and Folake kissed her daughter goodbye, promising to return soon.

As the days turned into weeks, and then months, Omotolani settled into a comfortable routine with her grandparents. They took her on trips to the market, to the beach, and to see her cousins. She learned to cook and clean, and she even started to call Kolapo's parents Mama and Baba.Folake visited as often as she could, but each visit only seemed to make Omotolani more attached to her grandparents. It was clear that she considered their home to be her true home. But as Omotolani grew older, she began to ask questions about her father.
