章 67: Chapter 67. The Meaning of Ray

Rayleigh stared at her mother's sleeping figure beside her. Their flight had been in the air for two hours now, and after a glass of champagne, Madelyn had decided to rest.

For Rayleigh, her mother had always been a wonderful parent. She remembered the day she had come out to Madelyn before telling her father. There was no rejection in her mother's expression, nor had she said anything else to Rayleigh at the time. All Madelyn had asked was, "Are you happy?"

"I don't know if I'm happy or not, but I think this is the right thing for me. I feel... comfortable," Rayleigh told her mother on the day she came out.

"Then so be it, Ray," Madelyn had replied. "You don't need my permission to be happy or comfortable in your life."

"Aren't you going to be mad at me? Disown me?" Rayleigh had asked, her voice filled with uncertainty.
