The next morning came and my alarm went off. I woke up to a dark room and looked over at the dark curtains that kept the light away. I'm glad I remembered to keep the curtains shut so Vincent doesn't get hurt. I turn over to look at the love of my life slowly waking up from his slumber. I push myself up against him and hug him tightly. He was cold like he normally is, but I love him too much to not hug him. I'll get used to it and learn to deal with the coldness of his touch, eventually. Vincent chuckles and kisses my head "Good morning darling" he spoke in his deep morning voice.
I heard a small knock on the door before looking in that direction "Come in" I said. No one said anything or walked in, confused I got up and opened it. I looked down to notice the little girl, Layla, smiling. She started moving her hands, but I couldn't understand what she was doing. Vincent came over by my side and bent down to the young girl's level. His hands were moving the same way but did different things. Curious, I had to ask, "What are you guys doing?" I wondered. Vincent turned to me, "It's sign language. She said that breakfast was ready, and I said thank you, we'll be down"
I thought for a second; I forgot that Layla was deaf and couldn't hear. So they speak with their hands? I tilted my head a bit "How do you know sign language?"
"I'm a vampire, Sky. Do you know how long I've lived in a mansion full of books about basically everything?" He asked.
He had a fair point, "True, but you're saying you read every book in that library?"
Vincent shook his head "Certainly not. The only ones that caught my interests were different languages"
"Oh, I see," I said after understanding him. I then noticed a sad look in his eye and already knew what he was thinking. I could tell it still upset him about his home being burned; bringing up the library wasn't probably the best thing for me to do. I placed my hand on his "I'm sorry for bringing it up"
He shook his head "Don't worry about it, love. Why don't we go eat?" he asked.
I agreed, but I still felt bad for what I said. We went downstairs to hear laughing and once we reached the kitchen; we saw Aaron and Carlton a complete mess. They had baking powder everywhere and looked as if they had a food fight with pancake mix. They both stopped in their tracks to stare at Vincent, Layla, and I. Carlton coughed into his hand "Adem, my apologies young master. We uh... had some.. uh.. difficulties..." he tried to explain. Vincent laughs a little which lightened up the mood a bit "No worries Carlton." Vincent replied.
The three of us sat down at the dining table which had eggs, sausage, bacon, and just one pancake. I'm assuming the rest of the pancakes are on Carlton and Aaron's clothing. Aaron came over placing the partly burnt pancakes down "Here ya go" Aaron smiled. I chuckled with a shake of my head "It's better than nothing at least" I took some and put them on my plate. Aaron and Carlton then sat down at the table and we started our first breakfast together.
"So, this whole vampire thing is actually real, huh?" Aaron asked.
"Yes," Vincent replied.
"How else do you explain me on the verge of death and then magically better the next day after being with Vincent again?" I asked.
"I guess, but... just seems so crazy. Like, are you actually not able to be in sunlight?" Aaron asked.
Vincent nodded while he looked down at his food.
"Can you even eat your breakfast or can you only drink blood?" Aaron questioned.
"I only drink Sky's blood because every human food tastes disgusting to me besides sweets and chocolate," Vincent explained.
"How old are you?" Aaron asked again.
"What is with all these questions, Aaron?" I asked.
"I'm just curious is all. I'm sorry if I overwhelmed you." Aaron said.
"No, no, not at all. I would be curious too if I met a vampire for the first time," Vincent responded.
"Young master and I are over hundreds of years old. We no longer know how old we are. Although I am not a vampire. They cursed our home with a time spell long ago until the young master, Sky, came. Before they cursed our home, I was 25 and because of the time spell, I kept my appearance as a 25-year-old man. Although ever since Sky came, I and Vincent could age in our appearance. So, appearance-wise, I am 32 years of age," Carlton explained.
I couldn't believe Carlton was actually 25 years old when I first met him, but that explains why he still looks like a young adult for being a butler. He had that sharp jaw-line, black hair, dark brown eyes, soft-looking skin, strong biceps, and a nicely shaved beard. Overall, Carlton was a handsome man. I would hope to look that nice when I become as old as him. I looked back over at Vincent noticing his glance at me. He gave me that look that a child would give to their parents when they're hungry. I gave a soft sigh before speaking "After breakfast, promise" I said. I didn't feel comfortable having Vincent drink my blood in front of a little girl.
As I ate my food, I kept noticing the glances that would happen between Carlton and Aaron before Vincent spoke "Aaron, I really appreciate your kindness and I would hate to take advantage of it but Sky, Carlton, and I have no place to go. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind lending us a room here for some time until we can move out,"
Aaron responded quickly as if he already thought about this and made his mind up "Of course. Although you both will need to get jobs and pay your side of the bill. Don't worry though, you won't pay that much. I want you guys to get your own place."
I tilted my head at what Aaron had said "A job?"
"Pardon me, Aaron, but master Vincent and Sky have never worked a day in their life. Getting them a job will be more challenging," Carlton explained.
"You both never had a job before?" Aaron asked.
Both Vincent and I shook our heads. Now that I think about it, Vincent and I had it very easy. We lived in a mansion, homeschooled, never cooked for ourselves, never cleaned up after ourselves, etc. I know a job is what you do in order to get paid and survive but we never really had to do that kind of stuff.
Aaron sighed in annoyance "Alright, I'll teach you both. First, what is one thing you both love to do?" he asked.
"I like technology and everything about it. My primary job in the mansion was to fix things that used technology but it's not as dance as technology in the city." I spoke.
"Hmm... My favorite thing to do is design clothing. I've always loved putting pieces of clothes together to make the perfect outfit. Seeing my outfit being used also brings great joy to me." Vincent then said.
Aaron nodded as he went quiet in thought and then spoke out his opinion, "Sky, I want you to explore more of the tech world before I give you a job. Vincent, I'll help you get a job as a designer, maybe a costume designer would be best for you." Aaron said.
~7 Years Later~
That's when Aaron's plan took off. He got me to try many things such as coding, computer building, game creating, software making, etc. After experimenting with many things, I came to the result of game creating. I decided to make my own video games for people to enjoy. I went to online college for 4 years and graduated at 22. Now; I am 24 years old and I've made 2 video games and one hit the top of the charts. I ended up getting paid lots of money because of the game, so I plan on getting my team together to create more. Before heading to college Aaron had told me my mother had committed suicide at the hospital the night we snuck out and my father indeed died in the fire that took place that same night.
Vincent didn't do any schooling at all, he still has a hard time using computers and other stuff. Although Vincent made his own clothing and when we went out to big night events, we would get comments on the clothes Vincent designed. Vincent caught someone's eyes, a professional designer. One of the biggest designers loved the way Vincent styled his clothing and admired his old-fashioned taste. Vincent worked with the designer for the same time I was in college and then made his own clothing business. Vincent didn't like being told what to do and how to do it so he found that making his own business would be better. Aaron helped him out a bit to get started with the store. Now, he runs his own store which makes tons of money as well. Our love has never ended either. We love each other more than the day we kiss for the first time. He is my vampire after all.
