章 17: Chapter 17 - Three White Whales
When they both got there they saw everyone fighting the whale with synchronized attacks. Shards of ice were flying at the whale and the butler was once again attacking with his sword. A couple of beasts people were also attacked using various methods, such as a magic-powered scream or just slashing at the whale.
The whale didn't seem to be retaliating. Two people jumped to the top of the whale, they were the old butler and the beast man, and they seemed to be talking to one another even in such a situation.
Raito looked at the whale and inspected it, feeling something off about it. Then it suddenly turned upwards, flying towards the sky. This resulted in the two people standing on its back to fall to the ground, but before they landed the old butler managed to cleanly cut off the fin of the whale, making a stream of blood fall to the ground as the whale continued to fly higher.
The old man landed on his mount the same as the beast man, and then they all grouped up, on alert and ready to once again engage the whale in battle.
Raito noticed something as they all gathered, Crusch wasn't among them, even though she also rode over here. He decided to stay back a bit, seeing as the one he had made an alliance with wasn't here. He, along with Suki, followed behind them as they rode their mounts forward in search of the whale. He made sure he wasn't close to them and out of their sight, as if they saw him he'd have to group up with them, something he doesn't want to do mainly because of what he saw when he used the Epitaph ability.
They continued to move forward whilst Raito and Suki continued to maintain distance. That was until a ball of fog came crashing down on the soldiers including the butler and Japanese boy, resulting in them scattering.
The butler, now on his hands and knees after dodging the fog, looked behind as he heard an alert from the Japanese boy. What he saw was the gigantic open mouth of the whale, ready to devour him with no hope of survival. But before he could be swallowed a spear made out of fire, with the shape of a spiral, launched toward the whale with a speed similar to a missile.
"Crimson Javelin," the person who launched the magic attack said just before the fire spear appeared. This person just so happened to be Suki, her hand stretched out as she cast the magic.
The attack now, known as 'Crimson Javelin', hit the whale right in its mouth penetrating the skin of its mouth, and charing the inside of its mouth. This attack allowed the butler to jump out of the way and not be whale dinner.
Everyone turned to where the duo, Raito and Suki were, looking for the perpetrators of the magic attack. Surprise and relief were etched onto their faces, a lot more confident to win seeing the strength of the two. Raito proved himself earlier and now Suki too has shown her strength. Their presence, the same as any other strong allies, brought a sense of confidence to the soldiers, something that makes a massive difference in a battle.
That confidence was gone the next second. In the sky appeared not just one White Whale or two, no, three White Whales appeared.
"Huh, there's more?" Suki said, confusion on her face.
"No, it's pretty obvious really, just look," Raito said whilst pointing to one whale and then another. "Two new whales appeared but they're already injured? I don't think so. They are the same whale divided into three. I'm not sure if this will also decrease their strength by three, but it's obvious they are the same whale." Raito didn't display any pride from this discovery, because to him figuring this out is simple and anyone with eyes would notice this.
"Oh I see, I guess I just didn't look hard enough. That is pretty obvious." Suki said back in the same nonchalant tone as Raito, both showing surprising calmness in such a situation.
The butler and the beast man approached Raito and Suki with everyone following behind them. They had grateful looks on their faces.
"Thank you for the assistance, my name is Wilhelm van Astrea and I am in your debt." He said with a noble and honourable look on his face.
"Yes well, we should focus on that later seeing as the battle is not over yet." Raito then pointed upwards toward the whales flying in the sky.
"Yeah hahaha, this has gotten a lot more interesting, I'm starting to get really excited." The beast-man said with a shit-eating grin on his face, his grip on his blade tightening and he looked restless.
A sudden commotion took place. A whale came diving down towards them with its mouth open, about to release a fog. Before anyone could react, a voice shouted at the whale, "Close your mouth!"
In the next moment, a bright flash of light emerged from the ground and was directed towards the whale. The sword slash hit the whale on its head, forcing it to shut its mouth and change its course from the gathered soldiers.

Does anyone else find it weird that it took Subaru so long to figure out they weren't different White Whales. They literally had the same injuries on all of them, and they were covered in blood.
