They both walked out of the house. Joel turned his flashlight on to check if any creature was still around them. But, there was not a single soul.
Joel pointed the light on Raiden's face.
"I will go the way where the centipede went. You take the truck and go to the train," Raiden said.
"Understood," Joel claimed.
Raiden turned around, ready to leave.
"Don't you die out there," Joel said.
Raiden looked back to Joel and found him pointing a punch towards Raiden. A part of Joel resembled Toshi. Old memories of Toshi flowed back into Raiden's mind.
Raiden punched at Joel's fist and turned around, "You too,' he said.
They both showed their backs to each other and started walking further away.
Raiden turned on his flashlight too. He moved into different streets in search of a vehicle. A sound of engine starting came from the direction he just left. Joel started the truck and was ready to leave. Raiden hurried up, he had to find a vehicle as soon as possible.
He kept looking into different streets, swiping all the area with the small beam of light.
At one end of a street, he came across a car down a tree. The tree was all dried up and all its leaves and roots had fallen onto the car.
Raiden rushed towards the car and checked around it with the flashlight. He cleared the leaves and roots above the car. The car looked perfectly fine so Raiden let himself in. He played around with some wires and the car's engine turned on.
The light from the car gave him a proper look at his surrounding. At the other side of the road, he saw something that he wasn't ready for yet. The centipede was standing at the other side of the road, slowly crawling towards the car.
"God, it couldn't have been more worse."
Raiden drifted back the car and accelerated away from the centipede. The centipede also followed back with insane speed.
Raiden drove the car at its full speed. He took many different turns in order to lose the centipede but it was always at the car's trails. The centipede destroyed the houses which came in its way and it screamed like crazy as it was following Raiden.
Joel drove the truck on the highway. There weren't many holes in the road so he drove at the full speed. Few zombies ran behind the truck, trying to catch up.
Joel heard the terrifying screams of the centipede and he couldn't do anything else but worry about Raiden. He made it to the outside of the Aomori city. Now, it was just sand on his way to the train. The sand was a little denser than it was in the city so the tires sinked in the sand which made the truck move slower.
Joel was just a little away from reaching the train while Raiden was trying to get away from the centipede. Raiden tried to lose the centipede with some quick turns but it didn't work at all.
At this point, he thought it was impossible to even lose the centipede, "What the hell should I do?" He shouted in desperation.
The sand by the tracks started shivering. It was from the rumbling of the train which had started to move on the tracks. Joel stood inside the compartment, standing beside the window as he handled the controls. He was done filling up the fuel and was ready to go to the Aomori station.
Raiden still couldn't lose the centipede. All he could do was drive and never stop. He was going towards the station. He thought if he couldn't lose the centipede, it would be better to just caught up to the train and drive away from it.
He made a turn to a new street. Right after the turn, there was a big hole in the ground. Raiden got a glimpse of it and immediately pushed break. His car barely made it from entering the hole. His life hanged on the edge. It was just a brief moment of relief that he didn't fell into the hole but that relief was immediately taken away from him as the centipede hit the car from behind and sent it flying over the hole to the further part of the street.
The car landed on its back and was crushed entirely due to the fall. All the glasses broke down and Raiden hanged onto the seatbelt. Some small glass pieces pricked some part of his body. Little droplets of blood fell down. Raiden finally opened his eyes. He struggled against the seatbelt and took notice of his current condition. He took out a small piece of glass that was stuck in his arm and felt the immense pain all over his body.
He made some moments in order to get out of the place. When he looked to his right, outside the window, the big black creature was just staring at him.
The train was making its way within the city. Due to the sound of the train, the zombies were attracted to it. The few zombies started following the train on the tracks.
Joel lowered the speed down so he wouldn't just pass the station without noticing it. He turned on the train's light and focused on the tracks.
He could see it. The station. He lowered down the speed even more and finally it came down to rest. He turned on his flashlight to look at the sides but there was no sign of Raiden anywhere.
"Damnit Raiden, where are you?"
He searched inside his bag and took out the flare gun. He held the gun outside the window and fired it in the sky. The green flare light went all the way up to the sky. It shone the whole area above the station.
The zombies following the train had caught up to it. They scratched under the window where Joel stood but it was too high up so they couldn't reach it.
"You better be at the second station," He said as he started the train and it moved ahead leaving the zombies behind to again run after it.
