章 8: Chapter 6: Tinker Bell.
ASLAN WERNER.
Present.
Just like she is doing right now. Standing 8 feet away from me near the dining table with Arnold's arms wrapped around her in a back hug and Laura beside her.
One minute she was smiling from ear to ear revealing those pearly whites and the next moment she is scowling at me.
"Good morning, mate."
I greet Arnold and bro hug him and then turn to give a quick hug to Laura wishing her the same.
"Good Morning, Tinkerbell."
I whisper to Amira, calling her by the nickname that I know she despises.
And just like that, her cheeks turn a few shades darker if that's even possible while she balls her tiny fists.
Yeah, tiny fists.
At five foot two, Amira is one tiny little human with a petite body and huge blue eyes, blonde hair that is always put up in a bun.
Yeah, the nickname fits her perfectly.
"Oh, it was! A lovely morning indeed. Until I saw someone's face, Nutcracker,"
she says through clenched teeth.
Nutcracker.
The nickname she came up with, for me, when I first called her Tinkerbell.
The nickname doesn't faze me in the least since she and I both know that it doesn't apply when I am a whole foot taller than her.
"Aw, I feel special!"
I reply, with fake sweetness, to her previous comment and purposely crowd her space.
And oh, the joy that I feel every time I see her crane her neck back to look up at me.
Amira opens her mouth to retort when Aunt Lena interrupts us commanding us to settle down and eat breakfast.
This is the only thing that I like about Amira.
She always has something ready to throw back.
She doesn't cower like someone else in her place would do.
No, She gives as good as she gets.
Once we settle down, I greet Uncle Anderson and Aunt Lena, my godfather and godmother.
Arnold's, Arden's and Amira's parents are my godfather and godmother.
Just like my parents are theirs.
Just like how we, boys will be godfathers of one another's children.
Aunt Lena as always has filled my plate to the point it is overflowing.
We all talk about studies and basketball and politics except for Amira who seems to be in her world.
A nearly empty plate sits in front of her that consists of a piece of bread, plain bread and it seems like I am not the only one who notices because Lena addresses her saying,
"Don't just sit there and act like a guest. Have some Peanut butter with it. And here's your Tiramisu."
"No, no, Aunt. I have already had breakfast at home." chirps Amira.
"Oh, hush! Child. Eat some more. You are way too thin."
And I don't know if it's just me that notices the hint of anxious look on Amira's face when Lena places a piece of tiramisu on her plate.
She stares at the tiramisu as if it's something from outer space and hesitantly eats a tiny piece of it.
A few minutes later, Arden, our other friend, enters the house and Aunt Lena ushers him to take one of the seats.
He greets everyone and goes to sit next to Amira and they begin talking about God knows what Amira ends up cracking up. No more anxious look on her face.
That's Arden for you. He knows when and what to say to make someone forget about whatever it is that's weighing their minds.
Our talk goes on for the next fifteen minutes as we finish our breakfast.
The boys and I get up and Arnold addresses the girls to eat quickly and join us when I see Laura stuffing the last of her croissant in her mouth spreading chocolate over the corners of her lips as Amira gives her a tissue and stands up hurriedly.
It doesn't skip my attention that an almost untouched tiramisu sits on her plate.
Guess, She did have too much to eat at her home if she couldn't fit a small piece of her tiramisu in her stomach.
What a waste of food.
See, as I said, Spoilt Princess.
We bid Lena and Anderson goodbye and make our way out the door to my Jeep Wrangler.
