The drive seemed to take forever. The traffic was bad but not nearly as horrible as yesterday. Still, with the driver braking and accelerating every couple of minutes — and the numbing effect of adrenaline wearing off — my headache came back with a vengeance, as did the pain from all the bruises and scrapes I had all over my body. On top of everything, I was suddenly made aware of the gnawing emptiness in my stomach and a cottony dryness in my mouth.

Of course. I haven't had anything to eat or drink since yesterday afternoon.

So to distract myself from my misery, I decided to think about Natasha and how happy she was in the last picture Igor had sent me. My baby sister had her arm around a pretty blonde guy — her current best friend, according to Igor.
