章 12: The black skull gang
"The vice president's son was attacked? Why?
What was he even doing at the bus terminal?" Abe asked intrigued
"Yes he was attacked. I’m not really sure why, but I think it's a political clash or a gang thing. Can't really say" John said
" But to answer your third question, apparently he came to 'Hero city' for an important person's birthday and so as not to draw attention to himself, he decided to disguise as a normal citizen and only came with two disguised bodyguard who were later found dead"John narrated as he drove
" That's it? That shouldn't make them start pulling everyone's sleeve up" Abe said
" Let me explain to you Abe, but before that, let me tell you something very important. Don't ever get involved with any gang or offend them, and the moment you hear the word 'Blood and death', you find your way and you head home as fast as possible." John said sternly
" Okay, but why?" Abe asked
" I'll tell you the why later but first, listen closely. There used to be many gangs in hero city, a lot of clashes and a lot of crimes, and the police used to have a headache about this. Meanwhile some of the police were also gang members and even the Governor back then was a gang's vice-leader. The gangs strived in crimes, and every now and then some gang member would be found dead in the alley, or in the river after a night of bloody fights. Until their fight became more frequent and more bloody, nobody knew what happened and even if we asked nobody would answer, as the gang were always secretive with their business. Then one day the police made a public announcement of a curfew from 5pm in the evening till 12pm the following day." John said, giving the middle finger to the bike rider that suddenly overtook them.
" Wait, why can't the police do anything about it? They just let them kill themselves? And you all just obeyed the curfew? Just like that? Without knowing what was going on?" Abe said cutting in
" I'll get to that part, be patient, let me finish. I know you're curious as to why the police didn't intervene right?
Well there was nothing the police could do, sometimes they arrest some gang members only to release them after because of lack of evidence to convict them with. Also the gang fights and clashes benefitted them somewhat, the gangs slowly kill each other until they're no more, and if there's no gang, no crime, and a no crime means a peaceful society.
So the police just made it their job to protect the innocent civilians, anything concerning the gangs were left out by them. Of course people protested when the curfew announcement was made, but none of them dared step out during the curfew time, because everybody knows that the 'Blood and death' day has arrived.".
" Pass me that bottle of water “ john said pointing at the bottled water at the back seat
" Here you go" Abe said passing the bottled water
" Thanks" John said, he drank from the bottle, only stopping when the content was almost depleted.
He screwed the top back on, gave the bottle back to Abe and then resumed.
" The 'Blood and death' day, it started as a rumour, nobody knew who started it but it quickly spread around the city like wild fire in a forest. Apparently, something had triggered an all out war between the gangs and the top three gangs: the sun gang, the black skull gang and the burning fire gang, these were the top dogs.
They were the ones that use to uphold peace among the gangs, but they had suddenly decided that they can't coexist peacefully any longer, declaring that there must only be one ruler and that would be the last gang standing after the 'Blood and death' day "
They stopped for the red traffic light.
John pulled out a cigarette pack from his pocket, he lit one up and inhaled the smoke into his lungs.
He blew the smoke out the window before turning to look at Abe.
"You don't mind do you?" He said
" No I don't, as long as you blow the smoke in the other direction when I'm around you, and make sure you don't die young like the label says
" Abe said, turning down the window at the passenger side in order to let the smoke blow out.
"Smokers are not liable to die young, they might!. It should be phrased as "Smokers might die young anyways" John said with a laugh
" Whatever you say, so what happened next? " Abe asked
" The night was filled with gunshots and the continuous wailing sound of the police siren." John said, he threw the cigarettes bud out the window and continued driving as soon as the light turned green
" The following day, the police phone line almost blew up with missing people reports.
The third day, some of the missing people were found in the mortuary, some were never found, and some fled the city.
That month, the headstone at the cemetery doubled in count, and the last gang standing which is the skull gang, declared dominance" john narrated
" Now let me explain that sleeve checking process to you.
The black skull gang was the last man standing and there are only two ways to find them, the tattoo of a black skull with a snake wrapped around it, and an all black outfit. But the skull tattoo must always be present.
The police said the people behind the attack were the black skull gang, so the governor issued a statement that anyone with the tattoo must be arrested hence the sleeve checking process at the bus terminal" John said as he turned right, driving the car into a silent and brightly lit street.
" But why the bus terminal, couldn't they just raid the whole state? Like tension them to leave" Abe said
" Raid the whole state? Haha Abe you're funny.
The gang members are no longer just ruffians, they've upgraded.”
" When the 'blood and death' happened, the black skull dwindled in size, but they came back bigger and better. Now there are lawyers, government officials, judges and even police in the black skull gang. That's why they can't just raid the city, like I said the other time that the former governor was a gang vice leader.
Let's just say they raided the city, will they arrest the governor because of a random skull tattoo on his hand? Of course not, that's why I said you shouldn't fuck with just anyone or a gang member
To make you disappear is very easy for them and to send you to jail is even easier.
There's nothing they can't do to you now that they have these people joining their gang. And the bus terminal is the less violent and simple way to arrest them." John said as he drove further into the street.
" What happened to the former governor? Is he dead? " Abe asked
" No, the black skull couldn't afford that, he was a Governor after all. If they had killed him, the top government would issue an investigation and it is very easy for the top government to purge the city. So they just kidnapped his daughter, and forced him to resign. After resigning, he left the city with his family. " John said, driving the car into the garage of a simple looking house.
" We are here, welcome home" John said as he switched off the engine of the car.
