章 71: Taking One Step closer to the Speed of Light

For the longest while, the Tyrant God simply floated above the variegated army of Sand Devourers. It occasionally glanced at the Tyrant Kings, seemingly contemplating whether it should send one to ensure that the human dies. However, with its above-average level of intelligence, it knew that was likely overkill.

Wasting any more energy on this small matter would only make them weaker when they invaded the human world, so holding back was the wisest thing to do.

Normally, that would have been the correct choice to make, especially when considering that it felt not the slightest bit of awakened aura from that human. But what it failed to account for with its limited intellect was that this human did not abide by the same power rules as the rest of the living organisms in the universe. Thus, it could not account for what was about to happen next…

Three hours later.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Sonic booms blasted out behind a tiny humanoid figure as he leaped from sand hill to sand hill. Behind him, however, were a countless number of Sand Devourers; they were all dozens of times his size, with some, like the largest crowned one, being more than two hundred times larger than he was.

Cassius had spent the first two and a half hours inside the Gate fending off the combined forces of thousands of Sand Devourers, which included ten Sand Devourer Lords. He had expected that, after slaying them all, the Tyrant God would lay off his back and consider letting the matter go. Yet, it didn't appear that the prideful Tyrant God was willing to take such affronts lying down; it made a power move and organized tens of thousands of Sand Devourers under a Tyrant King, also sending in another five Sand Devourer Lords as backup.

Cassius should've already realized that things would escalate in this direction, but he hadn't expected it to happen so fast! He was quickly approaching Level 50, but even then, a B+ Boss Monster with cumulative stats beyond 2000 was too much for him to handle!

'An individual Sand Devourer Lord was already bad enough, requiring me to take unconventional approaches to killing one, and they only had cumulative stats around 1400…' Cassius thought pessimistically, wholeheartedly believing that he would die within a second if he faced the Tyrant King head-on.

Stats are weighted, and that fact only becomes more noticeable the more stat points one has…

Even if the difference between 1400 and 2200 cumulative stats doesn't seem like much, if two such existences were to fight each other, the former would be flicked into oblivion.

"Without a doubt, if I fight that Tyrant King as I am, I'll certainly meet my demise," Cassius said half-heartedly, already feeling the headache that was to come. "Then again, it isn't like I can continue running either. The King and the weaker ones are already closing in, and in no less than five minutes, I'll be chilling in one of their acid pit stomachs…"

Left with very few options here, Cassius decided to do the next best thing and… dump more AP into his Agility stat!

BING, BING, BING!

The up-arrow button next to the Agility stat was clicked so many times that Cassius felt his index finger might fall off. From the 350 range to 400, then to 500, it only settled down at 660, with roughly 70% of his AP vanishing in the same period of time.

Now, even with his Newbie 3 Equipment Set weighing him down, Cassius transformed into a barely visible blur of black. His speed, as opposed to before, was more than a dozen times greater! If he could previously travel at approximately 100,000 miles per hour, then he was now lapping ten times that!

"Although I'm still far from achieving the speed of light, I have definitely taken one step closer," Cassius commented through blurry, almost instantaneous movement.

If one looked at this scene from an outside perspective and they were capable of keeping up with his movements, then they would quickly realize that his speed was nearing the peak of the B-Rank!

Thanks to the 'I AM SPEED' skill, which increased his speed by 350% with recent gaps, he moved leagues above how he should be moving. If not for his Newbie 3 Equipment Set weighing him down, he would surely be standing at the pinnacle of the B-Rank in terms of pure speed.

If stacked up against someone like Dominic, who didn't main in Agility, then he would win 10 out of 10 times in a race.

Still, the Tyrant God, an absolute unit of power, possessed stats far beyond his reach… Even with his overwhelmingly stronger Agility stat, he would lose a million times out of a million times…

The difference between anything below 1000 and the 1000 mark was like the difference between heaven and earth. Moreover, that gap only increased the further the number was from 1000 in the forward direction.

Cassius sighed, realizing that he was getting a bit ahead of himself. "Before concerning myself with the Tyrant God, I have a crowned bastard to take care of."

After their prey burst forth with incredible levels of speed, the Tyrant King no longer took a nonchalant, predatory approach. It instantly broached its limits and activated its Unique B+ Skill, 'Tyrannical Transformation,' which rocketed its 500 Agility stat to 750 and then some. It erupted in golden flames, with illusory dragon wings appearing on its back, only second to the Tyrant God in terms of magnificence.

Cassius, realizing he wouldn't get away so easily, at least not without unequipping his Equipment Set, figured that if this battle was destined to happen, then it was going to happen either way.

"And if I'm to take off my Newbie Equipment Set in both scenarios, then I'd prefer to break my Character Development code not in an act of cowardice."

He was not a big fan of fleeing, but it seemed that fleeing was all he had been doing since entering this Gate.
