"What happened to your leg?" Is the first thing Chloe asks as soon as I step out of the house.
"Ohmygod!" I put a hand on my chest. "You scared me!" Wait. "What are you even doing here?"
"What does it look like? I've been standing here for over ten minutes so that we can go to school together."
What?
"What?"
"Yeah." She nods.
"Why would you want to go to school with me?"
"Because you wouldn't go with me. I had my driver drop me off here so we can take the bus together." She smiles.
"It's a five minute walk to the bus station." I start.
"I can handle five minutes." She shrugs. "No biggie."
"And a fifteen minute walk to school." I continue.
"I need some exercise anyway."
"If we're late, we run."
"Like I said, I need exercise."
"The bus is always cramped."
"Let's just go Rave. I want to go with you. And if I don't like the experience, so be it."
"I don't just get why you'd want to ride the bus with me. I mean, you have a car and a driver."
"You mean cars and my driver." She corrects me and I roll my eyes. "But I just want to live outside my rich life for a moment. I want to feel normal."
I sigh.
"Fine." I turn to lock the house.
"Again, what happened to your leg?" She asks as we walked to the bus station.
After I got home and received a few insults from aunt Mary, I put a cold towel on my ankle.
I still felt pain and I'm still limping, but it's better.
"Fell and twisted my ankle."
It's not a lie, neither is it the entire truth.
"Yikes. Must have been painful."
"I've endured worse." I shrug.
Much worse.
We get to the bus station, waited for the bus for seven minutes, sat in the back, and we began our fifteen minute walk to school.
"So I want to talk to you about something." Chloe starts.
"Now we are talking."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I knew something was on your mind you wanted to talk to me about. And from the way you sound, you couldn't wait till after school to get it off your chest. Right?"
"Fine, you got me. But I did want to know how it felt like to ride the bus."
"And how does it feel?"
"Meh." She shrugs and I shake my head.
"So what's it you want to talk about?"
"Yeah, so yesterday after I got home, I was pissed that my brother ditched me."
"He ditched you?" She nods.
"Yeah. He gave me his keys and just left."
"He didn't tell you why?"
"No he didn't. So, I was pretty pissed. A while later, Peter came home."
"Wait." I interuppt her. "Who's Peter?"
"My brother's best friend."
"Oh okay."
"He said he and my brother met, he had to do something and he's sorry on his behalf."
"He said that?" She nods.
"But the thing is, I didn't notice he was moving close to me."
"Oh my."
"And we kissed."
"Well I'll be damned."
"I have had a crush on Peter since fifth grade. He had always been nice to me. Sometimes he annoys me, but you know, like the brother kind.
So I gave up on him. I ended my crush for him since I thought he didn't feel the same way. But that kiss took me by surprise and awoke the fifth grader in me."
"Wow."
"But that's not the worst part."
"Don't tell me-"
"We had sex." I stopped in my tracks.
"Now that's just- I don't even know what to say."
"Urgh!"
"But didn't you say you've liked him since fifth grade?"
"Yeah I did, I mean I do, but....." She trails off.
"Your brother." I finish for her.
"My brother." She sighs.
"How long have they been friends?" I ask and start walking again.
"I don't know, long enough?"
"This is kind of difficult. I haven't met your brother to say this might be his reaction, and I don't know this Peter guy either."
"I just had to put myself in a mess, didn't I?"
"It's alright Chloe."
"I don't even know how I'd face him" She puts her hands up in frustration. "I mean it'd be awkward and all."
"You are just over thinking it. If he doesn't make it awkward, then why should you?" By this time, we had gotten to the school gate.
"You are probably right. I shouldn't fuss over it this much."
"It is something to fuss over, but don't worry. And besides, you might not see him today."
"Thanks." She smiles.
"Quick question though. You did use protection right?"
"Made sure he did. Don't want to become a mother just yet."
"Well, I'm glad."
"Thanks Rave. For listening."
"Anytime." I smile at her.
