章 9: Chapter 9 - Exploring

Standing up from the bed, she walked over to an open area where she could mess around with the ability without worrying about hitting into anything if something went wrong.

The idea was simple, rather than trying to go into the darkness as she had before and move around— she would instead try to make the darkness cover her body while she is moving around.

So rather than moving in the darkness, the darkness would be acting as a cloak.

That way, she wouldn't have to worry about being seen— while also not having to exert too much energy in trying to keep it stable.

Especially when she would also have to keep the illusion stable as well— which could lead to a strain on her body and mind.

She hoped that the ability would allow her to move around easier— and she hoped that she could use it for now until she solved the issue with the traveling through darkness ability.

And while the ability wouldn't let her go very far— she hoped it would at least allow her to travel throughout the building she was in.

If it was a government building like she thought it was— she would have access to a lot of classified information at the very least.

If it didn't have any classified information, it would still have any information at all. She was lacking any form of information right now, and any would help expand her knowledge.

So, she put it to the test.

Closing her eyes as she stood up straight. She focused on the darkness around her. She could feel the darkness— sense it— it felt like it was a part of her, yet wasn't connected to her.

It honestly felt comforting to the girl— something that would never leave her, that could never leave her— but that was beside the point right now.

She tried to control the darkness to come towards her— moving it to wrap around her body in a complete encasement.

It covered her completely— not leaving any gap for people to see through, no part of her skin or body showed.

The next thing she tried to do was to turn the darkness transparent using the same illusion ability from before.

And to her surprise, it worked!

She was able to change the darkness into a transparent form— which in turn also made her transparent.

The only issue was that she was still very much tangible, so if something hit her or touched her, it would expose her right away.

Honestly, it reminded her a lot of the way the cloak that Harry had worked— minus the being created by Death part.

Which she really wanted to experiment on later on.

But this would work perfectly fine for now.

All she had to do was put it to the test, and what better way to test it than by just trying to sneak around the place?

Which would also be a good way for her to test out her current limits before she faced mental stain, and how far she could go from the illusion currently.

So without waiting any longer she made her way over to the door— opening it as she left the room quietly.

She didn't have to worry about the people noticing the door suddenly opening randomly, because she made sure to cover it in a short-lived illusion as she passed it— so that they wouldn't see.

As for the illusion of her that would stay in the room, she made it simple so that it wouldn't drain out her energy too quickly. It was her laying down on the bed sleeping.

Thanks to how simple it was— and the fact it wasn't moving— it drained little to no energy from her when she was near it.

The only thing she had to worry about— is if that would increase with range.

So sneaking down the hallway as softly as she could— trying her best not to make any noise since the cloaking didn't nullify any sound she made— she looked around.

She had seen the hallway before in passing when she had first woken up in this world. But at that time she was in a very unstable state, with her mind being rather blurred.

She couldn't even remember much of what happened when she woke up— or after. Which made this the first time for her.

Being as quiet as she could she sneaked down the completely white hallway.

The hallway in which her room was located had no other doorways— which she assumed was so no other people could interact with her.

But as she turned the corner to another white hall— she saw a few different doorways that she could enter.

'Finally.'

She thought to herself as she approached the first door.

She didn't outright try to open it because people might be inside of it, and it would expose her— so placing her ears against the door, she attempted to hear what was going on inside.

Listening closely, she heard nothing on the other side of the door— not even a peep. It was completely silent which led her to believe that the room was empty.

So with one final glance around the hallway to make sure no one was looking— she opened the door slowly and walked into the room.

Noticing that it wasn't a room she cared about.

It was a room with two couches in it— one long that could fit multiple people— and one small one for a single person. To the side of the room was a counter with some snacks and a coffee device on it.

It was a break room— most likely for the people that worked here.

And seeing as the people weren't currently in it, she could only wonder where they actually were— because they weren't watching her, nor were they on break.

'Actually, what DO they do when they aren't keeping an eye on me? Is this building multipurpose? Seems like a terrible idea to have an unstable variable kept in a workplace.'

She thought to herself as she stepped out of the room and closed the door behind her, not even bothering to explore the room further since it would be a waste of time.

She could tell she was running out of time— at most, she assumed she had an hour left to explore before she would have to return to her room.

She could feel the energy drain already starting to show from having three different things functioning at once— both illusions and cloaking.

This wasn't even mentioning the fact that people might suddenly return to this area— and she would be forced to return to the room.

So wasting time would be foolish on her part.

With that thought in mind, she made her way other to another door— one right across the hallway from the one she just opened.

Once again she had to make sure no one was inside of it, placing her head next to the door to hear if she heard anything.

And she did— but it wasn't a person.

A was a weird beeping sound like one would hear from a phone that had a message on it or something. It was very familiar to the girl but she couldn't quite put her finger on why.

But after making sure there really was no one on the other side of the door by listening to it a little longer— she slowly opened the door and peeked inside.

Thankfully she saw no one inside the room— so she sneaked into the room properly in order to look around.

And as she did so— she remembered where she heard that sound from before.

It was an alarm.
