章 56: More Questions Than Answers

There were many days when he felt like he was struggling to keep his head above water. He already felt he was doing impossible things by having escaped the peasant village. Despite giving it his all every day, he felt he couldn't stop letting down the people around him.

He let down his mother by coming to war, he was letting down Sir Trenton by becoming a bodyguard, and at that moment he felt like he let Rosalind down by forgetting to consider her safety above others just because he had a moment of panic at the sight of Sir Trenton.

Trenton held the cloth with his hand as Henry rushed away to see what was becoming of the woman he was supposed to protect while they were in the duke's tower.

All the salamander had done was corner Rosalind, but Henry could see that it was rearing up to let go of a burst of fire. Without thinking, he unsheathed his sword and dove forward, tackling the beast so he could cut off its head.
