My mother motioned Karen to hug her, and Karen reluctantly stood up and hugged her. I pulled Karen away and kept her by my side in case my mother did not take what I was about to tell her well.

I pleaded with my mother and put Karen behind me because what I was about to tell her was going to shake things up a bit and make her second guess her acceptance of my relationship.

I took a deep breath and looked at my mother, ready to tell her the truth about Karen.

"What is it, Oscar, You are making me nervous," she said and sat down, sensing what I was about to tell her would make an impact on her.
