章 4: Jack woods
Oh, you must be detective Chloe Henson she said gracefully As she stood up and shook hands with her.
" I'm officer Jade".
"Pleased to meet you Jade", Chloe replied.
"This way please"
They both walked towards the elevator to the 3rd floor which was where the detective's office was
Jade gently knocked on detective Thompson's office
come in he said with a deep voice. something that was quite unique to him.
"the newly transferred detective is here to see you"
"Oh, come in and grab a seat will you? ".
he said with a smile revealing his dentition.
alright I'll leave now she said standing at attention.
"Good morning sir" she said trying to stand up
"oh no have a sit" he replied. Chloe tensed muscles loosened up a bit. she had expected worse.
"Hello, Detective Henson... We are happy to have you around!!! " he continued
"I must confess I'm very much impressed by your credentials I'm sure we'll get along well in this division"
"Thank you sir Chloe replied with a serious look on her face.."
Detective Thompson noticed her uneasiness and chuckled
"Loosen up detective Henson... We're like a family here"
Chloe realized she'd been tensed. She nodded with a slight smile
"Thank you, sir"
"You'll be working with Jack woods he is also an excellent detective he will walk you through everything about our operation and... You have a case"
"Okay sir" Chloe responded swiftly
Detective Thompson picked up the phone and dialled his secretary's number.
"Anna, inform detective woods to meet me in my office immediately"
"yes sir" she replied as she swiftly picked up her phone to place the call
"Hello!" he said with a thick voice
"Boss sent for you"
"Okay"
As he slowly dropped the phone and got up on his feet quickly.
He walked briskly towards the elevator as he waited for the elevator to come back to the 2nd floor and got in, and waited for the elevator to take him to the 4th floor and walked towards Detective Thompsons'' office.
The motion sensor glass slid open.
" Detective woods there's someone I'd like you to meet."
"Detective Henson meets jack woods"
she quickly got up and shook hands with him
"Pleasure to meet you, detective Henson," he said without a hint of expression on his face
"You'll be partners and you'll teach her all she needs to know about this division and details on your current case"
"Yes sir he replied swiftly placing his two hands beside him.
Jack looked closely at Chloe, at a glance he could tell that she had an abnormal level of confidence and was fierce.
He liked her already
" That'd be all for now... You can both leave
Detective Henson, welcome once again"
"Thank you, sir"
They both walked out of his office and took the elevator to the second floor.
"Let me show you to your table and introduce you to everyone." Chloe gave a slight nod of agreement.
"May I have your attention everyone. This is detective Chloe Henson"
"you can call me Chloe" she briefly interrupted with a warm smile.
"Okay....she would be working with us" Jack continued
"Over there is walker and Taub our IT experts. The best in the job" as they both smiled and waved
"Here is detective Reven wright and Detective Lester George".
" Nice to meet you, Chloe."
"Now back to our case," he said handing over the file to Chloe.
Jack cleared his throat and started
"About 18 dogs were reported to have gone missing over the past couple of months, a female reporter Lin Jane feels it's not a coincidence, while the government is ready to dismiss it as insignificant. She suspects otherwise she has influenced a newspaper company to write an article on it"
as he pushed the newspaper towards Chloe. Chloe picked it up and closely examined it. She also felt it was strange...
"Do we have any leads? "
"Well.... not a very strong one for now"
"A peasant found what seemed to be like dog bones buried at the south side".
"We aim to extract the bones and take it for forensic examination"
okay ... Let's get going then.
They immediately got out she strapped her riffle to the side of her trousers and got in the front seat as they drove off in a police minivan.
They got to Alden, close to the Afton River, and saw the bones the old man described... The killer had burnt the bones...
" Do you think this means something Chloe?" For what is worth, it could have been anyone... Probably a hunter who eats dogs"
" I don't think so Jack" Chloe responded slowly as she thought of many theories.
"It doesn't fit dogs gets missing from the city and bones are found down here... All the way from the city?!"
"For all, we know it is just one dog doesn't account for the rest 4 reportedly gone missing"
"Or there could be more" ... She replied in deep thoughts
"We can't be sure"
"I know someone a forensic pharmacologist he's the best person for the job. We'll un a DNA analysis and tox screens. Whatever killed this dog, we need to know. She said confidently. Jack could see why she was good at her job.
She brought out a specimen bag and placed the bones and some ashes in another bag. "Alright, we're done.."
They quickly scanned the perimeter to see if they could find any other clue but none was forthcoming.
"okay let's move"
