章 10: Final Decision
Xavier was silent for a moment, pondering everything Emil said. Indirectly, Emil really hopes that Xavier will be willing to help Cytherea and the gods who were abandoned and lost their homes. As a god worshipper, Emil couldn't even bear to watch the Beauty Goddess live in a poor house even though he was very happy when he took a moment to talk to Cytherea.
It took time for Emil to calm his heart before continuing. "Xavier, do you know the reason we accepted you as part of us?" he asked.
So far, the reason Xavier has received recognition from them is because he helped protect Cliffside Village from the bandits who are always looting. But he had never heard the real reason from Emil and since his arrival, Xavier had no problem with it. But for some reason, he was suddenly curious about what underlies Emil received him as a villager.
"You know, I can tell right away if Cytherea was one of the goddesses when I never met her before, right? I also did the same when you first came to this village."
"But aren't you saying that humans don't have some aura around their bodies and only gods have that? Then what do you see and know?" Xavier was curious.
"I'm not talking about aura, but I can see people's hearts or know the characteristics of each individual without having to be the closest person. At that time, I could tell right away if you weren't a person who liked to run away from challenges. I always let you pretend to be stupid and let your guard down to keep you because I believe you have the kindness and courage that can bring change to Cliffside Village. What I predicted when you first came, is now a reality and almost none of my predictions have missed the mark."
"Mr. Emil... It's like you can see the future with that ability. I just found out you have such amazing abilities. Why do you just say it now?"
"If I may be honest, I don't want to tell anyone other than Halyna and my children. I was forced to use this method to persuade you to help her after she said only you got the offer after Cytherea travelled for more than 500 years. Making mortals a part of the gods is not something that makes sense, but I believe that with her ability, Goddess Cytherea is definitely capable of doing it and has already considered everything."
"Only I got the offer? It seems that she really wants to go back to her home."
"Of course. This earth is not a place for gods and there will be many disputes if gods and humans live in the same place. It was all my attempt to persuade you, Xavier. Even I have to divulge this ability even though I will receive anger from my wife if you tell her. As a person who praises the existence of gods, I hope you are willing to help them."
"But what about you all? Who will guard the village when I am away?" Xavier worries about them as an excuse to reinforce Emil's hopes.
"You don't have to worry about us, Xavier. The villagers, including me, have already received all your kindness. There is nothing we need to get from you anymore and it is time for you to spread your kindness to all human beings on this earth. If the reason you stay here is because of our kindness, then you will find a kindness that you have never gotten in this village. I believe that sooner or later, you will definitely get it. Trust me."
"By the way, it seems that the residents have also begun to prepare themselves for your departure, especially the village guards who have benefited and helped from you."
"Wait, how is it possible..."
"I told them." Emil interrupted quickly. "I recount and assure the adult population if Cytherea arrives, nothing but to command you to give help. Although it sounds ridiculous if the weakest creatures are relied upon by the most Magnificent figure. Most of them tried to understand what I was saying even though not a few of them did not accept your departure. But cause of my wife's help, they became obedient even though their hearts were heavy and it would be lonely to lose a village hero."
Silence for a moment, then Emil continued. "If you don't believe everything I say, I won't hesitate to wake up my people and tell you directly if they're going to let you go, ready or unprepared we have to live independently and take care of our village. Your duty is over, Xavier. Go away from Cliffside Village for the good of all mankind... and for the gods."
Emil stared at him for a long time, trying to convince Xavier that their efforts would pay off as expected. After all the two parties both benefited even more likely that Xavier was above the gods as a human being for the first time.
It felt like he was thrown away when he was already useless to them. But Xavier was convinced that it was just a parable to assert himself if the gods needed help and their earth would be in chaos if the Demon King and the army began to rule the earth.
Xavier took a deep breath, visible from his face if he had already determined the answer and would not hesitate in his choice. He got up from the chair, walked towards the door and opened it very wide.
"I'm sorry for being forced to make you come to my house at night, Mr. Emil. Perhaps my behaviour this time was very impolite for expelling distinguished guests.
"I apologise for having to make you come to my house so late at night, Mr Emil. It may be very rude of me to turn away such an honoured guest. But give me time to prepare myself and I will see you shortly."
Emil smiled, he didn't mind being chased away by his host tonight. After all, his job of persuading Xavier was done and there was nothing else he could do there. Emil approached him and asked once more.
"I object going to home with empty-handed. Are you going to tell me now?"
Xavier could not hide his smile. "Yes. Tonight I will prepare myself to help Cytherea and the gods, Mr. Emil."
