章 19: He is a wolf
The other day was uneventful for Daphne. Kian had managed to escape by sticking with his lies which was that the one Daphne saw as a wolf wasn't him. Daphne knew that Kian was trying to make it seem like everything was okay. If she stopped talking about what she knew then everything was going to naturally die down. Daphne wasn't going to allow that, she was going to put an end to Kian silence.
Daphne lightly bumped Esther to get her attention as Kian was taking a customer order. "There's a secret I would like to share with you?" She said Loud enough for Kian to hear. "I was planning on telling you later today but I feel the need to just say this secret, it's like a burden, and if I don't get it out of me now, I feel like someone might tell me later that everything I know is a lie."
"Did you get that?" A middle-aged man asks Kian who looks out of place.
"Honey, I think this young man must be sick," the wife of the middle-aged man said. "Young man, it's okay if you go and rest, someone else can take our orders. That cute girl over there can do it." The lady called out to Bella who came over immediately. Kian was dismissed without the chance for him to say otherwise.
Bella answered her call to duty while giving Kian a strange look because he had never been sick before, and earlier in the morning, he looked as though he was perfectly fine.
Daphne secretly smiled to herself while putting on a troubled expression in front of Esther who was now interested in hearing her secret. Daphne was using Esther to put pressure on Kian.
'how would he react if I tell what I know to others in the cafe.' Daphne thought.
"You won't believe me, Esther." Daphne watches Kian from her peripheral vision, waiting for him to stop her. After all, he wanted to hide what he was. "It's as crazy as a man turning into a wolf."
Daphne got pulled away, she was expecting to see Kian, but when she turned towards the one who pulled her, Daphne came face to face with Nyla who was smiling apologetically to Esther who was stunned by how fast, Daphne was taken away from her. Nyla was so fast that Esther found it hard to believe that her speed was human.
"What do you know?" Nyla asked in a troubled tone that was similar to Kian the day Daphne told him about his secret.
Daphne was so shocked that she didn't know what to say.
"I asked again." Nyla said in a serious tone, "What do you know Daphne."
Nyla wasn't part of Daphne's plan. Her sudden behavior made Daphne uncomfortable, as though Nyla could ruin her plans.
'no, I can't let Nyla ruin things for me. If I can't use Esther to pressure Kian, I'm going to use Nyla.' Daphne thought.
"Kian. He... I think... He's a wolf." Daphne acted as though she couldn't believe her words in case Nyla thought that she was crazy because of her claims.
Nyla gasps in surprise as Daphne claims. She gave a certain unexpected gaze to Kian. Her eyes were full of blame. Nyla left Daphne and went to Kian. "You told her?!" She asked through gritted teeth, her voice was full of anger.
Daphne watches Nyla and Kian in confusion. She was planning on telling Nyla that Kian wanted her to believe that what she knew was a lie. But Nyla's reaction to her earlier statement didn't give her the chance to say anything. Nyla's actions made Daphne suspicious and realized that there was more that she still didn't know.
"I didn't tell her," Kian said to Nyla in equal anger, "she won't shut up. I have tried making her understand that who she thinks she saw wasn't me."
"And how exactly are you doing that?" Nyla asks in a mock voice. "By standing like a scared cat at the side while she tells Esther what she knows. Do you understand what would have happened if I didn't stop her?!"
Kian became silent, his head fell and faced the floor.
"Other than Daphne running her mouth, you know that there are other issues you should be worried about right? You should be more concerned about him, and about what is going to happen to you if he finds out that she knows."
'him.' Daphne thought, 'Who are they talking about?'
"And to make matters worse, she trying to tell others." Nyla thought out loud. She folded her arms around her chest. Even though she knew that Daphne could overhear their conversation, she was more concerned about Kian than what Daphne knew. "I don't know how you plan on getting yourself out of this mess. If he finds out, he's going to use this as the perfect opportunity to..." Nyla couldn't bring herself to complete her statement but she trusted that Kian knew what she wanted to say. "Fix this kian. I can't get myself involved with this mess any longer." Nyla left Kian and Daphne alone.
Although Daphne didn't understand Nyla and Kian's conversation, she knew that it was important that Kian stop her from spilling his wolfy secret to others.
'stop me Kian.' Daphne thought as she gazed at Kian, he was avoiding her eyes.
"Does Nyla know?" Daphne asked Kian, "From the conversation you two had, it sounded like she knows a lot more than me."
'just tell me the truth. There's no way you can lie your way out of this.'
"Other than Nyla are there others who know who you are? I don't think Esther knows, but I'm not sure about Bella and Adriel, maybe I need to tell them." Daphne had an innocent smile on her face, pretending as though she didn't know what she was doing to Kian.
Kian glared at Daphne while she smirk at him and asked him "What? I think it's fair they know who they are working with."
Daphne thought about Nyla and what it meant for her to know Kian secret.
