It had been two months since Julongs official admission to the Cangxuan Sect, and the Outer Mountains Disciple Selection Ceremony was coming up in a month. In the time in between, Julong had non-stop been working on the Heaven Devouring Vitality Rune, making steady progress, being around 34% complete. In doing so he had also reached the peak of the Second-Layer of the Alpha-Origin Realm with 1238 Genesis Qi Stars. He was now just waiting for a Perfect Breakthrough.
Sitting inside of the main building of the Pavilion on the 'Second Peak', as it was referred to, Julong was reading a letter he had received from Shen Taiyuan earlier when he was in the Dao Seeker Hall. He said that the contents were secret, and even he did not know what was inside.
Hearing him say that, Julong was of course assuming it had something to do with his origins in the Hunyuan Heaven, but when he read it, it could not have been any more different. Just like how he had been spending time with Yao Yao, he had also been spending time with Li Qingchan in the Genesis Reservoir, this time when they were both completely dressed.
She had apparently taken notice of a task from the mission board and was wondering if Julong wanted to accompany her. Hence her supposedly secret invitation.
She was definitely over the top. Could she not have just used Genesis Qi to mask her presence while they were together? Not to mention, the fact it was secret was very odd to him. Was it because others might have gotten jealous?
Wait... wouldn't sending a letter also defeat the purpose of keeping it secret since it had to be delivered? Well, then again, it didn't have her name on it...
He only ended up scratching the back of his head. He didn't see the harm in helping her with whatever the mission was, so why not?
Down the bottom of the letter, there were instructions as to what he should do if he wanted to join her on the task.
'Genesis Reservoir - Dusk'
Wow... how descriptive.
He was assuming she meant the same place they would usually meet, which was his territory of the reservoir. He would find out once he arrived.
He stood up, running a hand through his drawn-out hair. He didn't feel like tying it, nor wearing his Guan. Perhaps he would just let it hang free for the day.
He began walking with purpose, attempting to find Yao Yao as to tell her that he would be going on a mission. He didn't know how long it would be, so telling Yao Yao was definitely a must. Particularly if he didn't want to be murdered by her upon his return.
He found her in the gardens tending to some flowers that she had been growing. He had remembered when they had been freshly planted seeds. Now they were budding flowers thanks to the power Yao Yao had gently been giving them. It was beautiful seeing her tend to the flowers so gently. The scene was almost ruined when he arrived, his presence incited an immediate response from her. She stood up quickly, looking at his face as she brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
Actually... the scene is still quite beautiful.
"Julong..?"
Her speech was simple. While it was like a question, her expression showed a certain type of understanding. It was almost like she already knew what he was about to say just from seeing the somewhat complex expression on his face.
"I will be going on a mission today or tomorrow. In all honesty, I don't really know when I am leaving, but I thought I should tell you, just to make sure you knew and I wasn't just leaving you alone."
She nodded in understanding, moving closer to him.
"That letter you received, it was from that Li Qingchan, was it not? I recognised some of the residual Genesis Qi that she left on the letter, the same she sometimes leaves when you two meet in the Reservoir."
Despite the tone of her words, Yao Yao actually quite liked Qingchan from the few interactions she had, had with her. As long as she was not someone annoying like that cat in heat, Zouqiu Qinyu, she did not really mind.
"Yes. I know not why she used such methods, but I'm sure she will tell me in due time. As far I'm concerned it will just be the two of us, which is my best reasoning as to why she asked in the form of a letter."
"Why do you think she asked you of all people?"
"I couldn't tell you. I am far from her level of prowess currently, though from what she has told me, she doesn't take much time to make friends due to some sort of pedestal she had been put on by her peers. Perhaps she just wants to take me because I'm her friend?"
Yao Yao blankly looked at him, saying a singular word before a smirk overtook her lips.
"Womanizer."
Julong shook his head in disbelief. Even if she was obviously kidding, he couldn't believe her words.
What a joke.
"You sure do come out with some interesting things sometimes, don't you..? Either way, dusk is approaching, which is my queue to meet her in the Genesis Reservoir. Would you like to join me? That is where she will be explaining all the details."
She nodded.
"I would most like to know how long it is you will be absent from the Pavilion."
"I'm sure that will be detailed."
"Then allow me to accompany you two."
Julong smiled.
"Of course."
Cangxuan Sect - Genesis Reservoir
Arriving in the reservoir, it was not very difficult to spot Qingchan at all. She was sitting inside of a gazebo that overlooked their general bathing area. It was also the same place where they had most of their conversations.
She seemed to have felt the two arrive, looking in their direction with a soft smile on her lips. Though she seemed a little bit iffy upon gazing over Yao Yao's figure, almost like she was confused, she didn't falter.
Julong smiled back. Or at least he would have, had her expression not become bitter.
"It's about time you arrived Julong."
She sounded rather petty about the whole ordeal, but that was her. She was rather ego-driven and petty. He wouldn't dare call her close-minded nor arrogant, but she did get hung up on very small things, like the one time Yao Yao had called her a lightweight in drinking. She spent the rest of the night drinking and trying not to act drunk.
Julong couldn't help but grin at the memory.
"To be honest, the instructions you left me were not very clear. It was three words. Did you just lose motivation halfway through or something?"
She seemed almost insulted by his words.
"Of course not! I-I had to cultivate!"
"I'm sure you did."
A small provocative nod followed in the wake of his words, making her grunt with a visible heat on her cheeks. With that, she looked away from him begrudgingly.
"Either way, come here. We have much to discuss."
