章 17: What Azeroth Must Do

After Xue Lian finished absorbing the star, there was still no movement around them.

At this point, Lei Feng also confirmed that no one was going to jump down, or they would take a detour.

"We should leave this place now, just keep moving straight ahead. Let's stop to absorb more stars after a while. I don't think they'll give up easily, so they'll definitely find a safer way down here. We shouldn't stay in one place for too long it leaves us vulnerable." he said.

"Understood!" everyone responded.

Then, they began to follow him. There was no reason to question it since he had explained everything in detail.

Their speed slowed considerably due to their wet clothes, but taking the time to remove and dry them wasn't an option - it would take too long.

"Hey, wearing wet clothes like this won't make us sick, will it?" Xue Lian asked.

Although they wouldn't necessarily get sick, the possibility wasn't zero. Given the current situation - no medicine, and poor healthcare - falling ill would be troublesome.

"It's possible, but it's not too important. If it happens, just absorb the star directly. Minor illnesses can be cured that way, and it'll also speed up wound recovery. Even more serious diseases can be treated with the star, though it might take more time." Azeroth said.

Hearing this, the other three were astonished. They hadn't expected the star to be such a miraculous cure. Calling it a panacea wasn't an exaggeration.

"Haha, why are you all so surprised? What you're holding in your hands is a life. Absorbing a life just to cure a cold isn't exactly a cheap price to pay."

"What life? Don't equate these worthless creatures with humans." Lei Feng retorted.

He wasn't underestimating them, but he absolutely didn't agree that goblins could be considered equal to humans.

This was the pride of humanity specifically, and of all supreme races in general.

On the other hand, goblins considered humans to be an inferior species.

"That's right, how can those goblins be compared to us? I'll crush every last one of them." Xue Lian nodded in agreement.

"I share His Majesty's sentiment. Their lives are not worthy of being compared to human lives." Long Wei added.

Azeroth smiled and nodded, then said:

"You're not wrong. I'm sure they're viewing humanity in the same way. After all, you all belong to races worthy of challenging for supremacy, so naturally, no one respects anyone else. But right now, I'm on the side of humanity, so of course, I'll help you."

Lei Feng was startled upon hearing this. He furrowed his brows and stared at Azeroth, asking:

"What do you mean by 'right now you're on the side of humanity'? Are you planning to betray us?"

Seeing Lei Feng's serious expression, Azeroth chuckled:

"Haha, you don't need to worry. Humanity may betray me, but I won't betray humanity - at least not until this war is over. But if humanity no longer needs me, then I'll simply have to leave."

Lei Feng pondered for a moment, his thoughts revolving around whether or not Azeroth should be nurtured.

If the day came when Azeroth betrayed humanity, wouldn't they just be raising an enemy?

As an emperor, he certainly wouldn't allow that to happen. While Azeroth's words reassured him somewhat, he still needed clarity on the matter.

"Explain yourself clearly. What exactly do you intend to do with humanity?" he asked.

Without hesitation, Azeroth replied:

"I will represent fairness, or you could see me as a referee among humanity. I won't favor any nation to ensure objectivity. Right now, humanity is wasting its greatest resource: the people. Living in comfort for too long has made them forget their place. It's time for change.

Humanity needs a leader, but if there's only one leader, humanity will belong to a single nation. Naturally, no nation will yield to another. Even if they outwardly submit, they'll still be plotting to change the balance of power.

I want to create an opportunity for you all to compete fairly. The ultimate victor will be the leader of humanity. At that point, there won't be much division between nations - or rather, humanity will effectively become a single nation."

The three were stunned for a moment upon hearing this. Lei Feng thought it over before asking:

"And when that happens, how will you be different from now?"

"Me? Right now, I'm the freest human, but in the future, I will willingly imprison myself forever to ensure fairness."

"Why would you do that? Isn't the pursuit of freedom and happiness what all humans strive for? You would voluntarily imprison yourself forever and gain nothing from it?" Lei Feng asked, clearly perplexed.

From a human perspective, he simply couldn't understand it.

"You already know that I'm not an ordinary human. I exist solely to complete this mission. Apart from that, nothing else holds much meaning for me."

"A mission? Is it really that important?"

"I was born for this mission. Think about it - do you think it's important?"

Lei Feng nodded and said:

"Alright, I'll nurture you fairly, even though you're not Chinese."

"Haha, I've never been Chinese. I just ended up there by chance - or maybe the reason I appeared there was to meet you, Your Majesty. In the future, what I need to do will require a lot of help from you." Azeroth said with a smile.

Whether that was true or not, he didn't really know. But since it had already happened, there was no point in dwelling on it - talking about it wouldn't change anything.

"Alright, once I become emperor, I'll recommend you. But whether or not other nations agree with you will depend on your plan and your sincerity." Lei Feng said.

He wasn't naïve - getting the whole world to follow him in the near future was impossible.

However, if Azeroth truly succeeded, it might actually be possible. After all, Lei Feng was primarily focused on China, while Azeroth represented humanity as a whole.

After walking for a long while, they reached a relatively cool area and decided to stop and rest.

They didn't set up camp or build a fire since it wasn't necessary. As Azeroth had said, getting sick now was unlikely, so there was no need to risk exposing their location by lighting a fire.
