章 30: Forward [9]

'What does this app do... Oh! It's some sort of weird camera but it makes everything look like it was drawn with a pen!'

Moving along the street, I was currently making my way to the bus station so that I could catch a bus back to the academy. The Academy of Heroes wasn't that far from the city center, but it was still too far for someone to feel good about walking there as it was located more toward the outskirts of Abas City, which was the capital of the country Abas.

With both hands, I was tightly holding onto the gift that I had gotten from Cerus, making sure to be careful that I didn't accidentally drop it.

'It was somewhere around here, wasn't it?'

Having already walked around quite a bit while looking for the station, it couldn't be helped that I had some trouble finding my way around the city as I had never been here before. It didn't help that as I got further from the main city streets, the street lights became much fewer and farther between making it harder to see everything clearly.

Fortunately, I was still pretty sure that I was getting closer to the station as I started to recognize certain buildings that I had walked past when I arrived here with Cerus. Unfortunately, life was never quite that simple, now was it?

"Ey, boy! Drop that phone if you don't wanna get hurt!"

Having stepped into a bit of a back street, a loud voice yelled at me from behind.

Three men had followed me into the smaller street, all of them looking at me with eyes that told the story of someone who had now found easy prey. With their faces disguised with bandanas, I couldn't tell what their appearances were like, which was the same for their bodies as they were all wearing oversized hoodies and puffy pants.

'This world also has some hoodlums, it seems.'

Even if a lot of things were new to me in Wurden, my new world, this wasn't one of those things. These kinds of people existed in abundance on Earth too. Now, the problem was that even if they were the same kind of people, I sort of had a feeling that the thugs here might be a lot more trouble than those on Earth. Mostly due to everyone being a lot physically stronger and having mana in this world.

"Are you deaf?! Put the fucking phone on the ground!"

"I don't want to. I just got this thing, after all. Also, it was a precious gift so it would be pretty sad if he heard that I gave it away."

"You... do you have a deathwish or something?!"

'I could just run away... but somehow, that feels like a waste?'

I hadn't come to this world just to run away, and if I was aiming at becoming a champion, how could I ever justify running away from some street thugs? Now, I also knew that boxers aren't supposed to use their fists against civilians, but at this moment in time, I simply didn't care. It would be an act of self-defense anyway.

Therefore I took a stance and began to bounce a bit to see how my legs felt.

'Still sore... but this is more than doable. I hope...'

"Get this motherfucker!"

All three of them rushed forward to assault me and even in the dark I could see just how furious they were that I hadn't complied with their demands immediately. But they were slow, extremely slow. Now, in this world, most things were very slow to me, but these guys were so much slower than Celine that I was surprised at how much time I had to plan my approach.

As they weren't all equally fast or coordinated, they ended up running more in a line than a row, which meant that as long as I didn't make any stupid moves, I would probably not end up surrounded. Not that I thought it mattered as their running was more than proof that neither of these had any proper training.

Something that was further proven by the large, unbalanced swing that Thug Nr 1 sent out, aiming at my face. Yet, it was so slow that all I needed to do was to bend my knees to successfully duck under it.

"Huh?"

Planting my right foot on the ground and pushing with all the muscles in my whole right leg, I flew upwards, with my right fist leading the way.

*Bom!*

A clean uppercut sent his head flying. But I still wasn't done yet, as my body was also traveling upwards with his. So, by stepping with my left foot and rotating my body, my next attack was already on its way.

*CRACK!*

The left hook hit him right in the face, and as he had already lost his balance from the uppercut, it dragged him with me for the entirety of the movement, ending up with me smashing his whole head into the concrete ground, making his body follow closely behind.

"Huff... huff..."

Silence arose as the two other thugs both stopped dead in their tracks after having witnessed what had happened to their friend, who was now passed out in front of my feet. Meanwhile, I was getting devoured by a sensation of absolute bliss, emotions that surpassed what I had felt when I sparred against Celine by miles.

With adrenaline pouring through my veins I couldn't forget the lingering sensation of flesh against my fist and how I had completely demolished my opponent whose blood was now coloring the ground red.

Turning my sights upward, I met the two remaining enemies with a smile.

"What are you waiting for?"

-------

"I'm telling you, it was self-defense."

"Self-defense?! The three of them were all lying on the ground completely unconscious when we got there! And then you also have the guts to claim that someone like you would be a student at AH! As if AH would ever accept a student like you!"

"Yes, officer, but all of those things are true? They were the ones who tried to rob me and I am, in fact, a student at the Academy of Heroes."

By a funny twist of fate, I had now found myself sitting in an interrogation room inside a police office, with a beautiful yet very angry woman interrogating me. With her short, purple hair and sleek yet womanly form, the policewoman was no doubt a beauty, even if her eyes were a bit sharp, enough to make some people call them a bit scary-looking.

*Bam!*

Slamming her hands down on the table in between us, the woman who had introduced herself as Ms. Valentine still didn't seem to want to believe me.

"Bullshit! We have already contacted the academy and told them about the matter, so it won't take more than a couple of minutes before your lies get exposed!"

Officer Valentine and I had done this dance a couple of times already, and although I wanted to respect the fact that she was only doing her job, it did start to make me a bit annoyed. So in the end, I chose to not answer anymore and wait for whoever was coming from the academy to speak for me.

*Click*

Then, as if by some act of a higher being, someone walked through the door to the interrogation room right at that moment. Wearing his white uniform, showing that the man who had walked in was, in fact, a teacher at AH, and as his bald head reflected some of the lights from above, I wasn't all too surprised that Mr. Folm was the one who had come.

Ms. Valentine's face instantly changed from one of an interrogator to a more neutral visage, a lot more suited for having a conversation with someone who, in contrast to what she thought of me, was not a criminal.

"Thanks for coming Mr. Folm."

Waving his hand while his smile was upside down, my dear teacher made a bad attempt at trying to show that he wasn't annoyed.

"It's fine. It's part of a teacher's duty at the academy to make sure our students aren't misusing their strengths as we are responsible for training them."

"I understand. But then again, I don't think you will have to worry much. Because I don't think that this young man is..."

To the policewoman's surprise, it didn't even take a moment for my teacher to identify me.

"Ray Flowers... what were you up to this time?"

"Mr. Folm, do you know this man?"

Crossing his arms, the frown on his face appeared to somehow grow even stronger.

"Hmph! Barely. But he is certainly one of my students."

"Wait! That means..."

"Yes. He is a student at the academy and as I am responsible for the class he is part of, I can be very, very sure of it."

Turning her face to me with a complicated expression, I couldn't help but reply with a smile.

"See? I told you!"

"Brat! Who told you to open your mouth?!"

"...my bad."

"Anyway, I heard most of it on my way here but I still want to talk to the officer for a bit. So, Ms. Valentine, would it be okay for us to step outside for a bit?"

"Of course."

With that, I was left alone in the interrogation room, not too worried about the situation now that my teacher had come to my rescue.
