-Captain America POV-
"He has 9 months to die and he wants to attend a race? That seems weird to me Coulson" Coulson just stands there and doesn't join me on bitching about the mission but instead tries to defend Stark.
"Mr. Stark is an international business man and he has to appear in the public eye every once in a while" Coulson's defence felt weak and he must know it too if the smirk he was sporting was anything to go by.
We watched on as Stark mingled with the crowd which had really great people like 'Elon Musk' and 'Justin Hammer'. They both are the kind of people who will sell their mother for a buck in an apocalypse. Yes, I did watch The Walking Dead and I don't believe that humanity will ever fall so far.
"Atleast I got to see Monaco" I look at the F1 cars below getting in line for their race, I didn't understand the appeal of a sport such as this because this isn't that relatable for the general populace, they won't know what sitting in that car would feel like.
I ask Coulson about it and all he had to say was "It is kind of like children wanting to be like you. They can't be like you but it is fun imagining themselves in your place" I think Coulson was one of the kids who wanted to be like me. I put a hand on his shoulder.
"Anyone can be like me Coulson, all they need is a good heart but this..." I point at the opulence laid across the VIP room "...is hard to achieve" Coulson just chuckles as he says "I didn't mean to insinuate anything, I was just making a comparision that the fantasy of being in the cockpit of those vehicles"
My mouth widens in understanding and I nod at his explanation "That makes sense I suppose but look at these guys, they have enough money to be in the cockpit of one yet they sit in this box and watch the vehicle in a TV" Coulson grins as he says "Everyone wants to be the Captain but not everyone is ready to punch Hitler in the face"
I grimace as I tell him "Everyone SHOULD be ready to punch Hitler" Coulson grimaces because he probably remembered that I was there when the atrocities happened but still doesn't retract his earlier statement "Poor choice of words on my part Captain but they are still true"
I shake my head and chuckle as I tell him "I told you to call me Steve in public" Suddenly I notice a commotion near the TV and look up to find Stark getting into the Stark Industries F1 car. My eyes widen and I turn to find Coulson but he was already running for the exit.
Before following him I looked at the glass window of the VIP booth and take a deep breath before running towards an empty table at full speed and pushing it against the glass, breaking through it. I free fall for few minutes along with the table before I let go of it and roll onto the side shade of the building.
I jump down just in time to see Tony starting his car, I run behind him as he screams out loud terrified to find a super soldier running after him. I miss catching him as he turns into the race just in time. I look at the announcers who start the race more quickly seeing that Tony can be stopped by me from participating.
I sigh as the race starts and I watch on as Stark drives between the F1 cars with surprising grace and Coulson runs upto me and pants as he asks me "Why did you jump?" I sigh as I tell him "I thought I could catch him"
Coulson wipes his sweat with the handkerchief I gave him and jinxes it "Atleast there isn't much that would kill him in the track"
I grimace as the Jinx happens and a man starts walking into the race track wearing the safety gear of a normal worker but the clothes start to burn off his body as 2 whiplashes made of lightning form in his hands. I start running through the tracks with all of my strength as the man slashed his whiplash against a race car and slices it in two.
I feel my feet burn in exertion as my muscles ache with that familiar pang I haven't felt in a while, the adrenaline pumping through my blood as my feet carry me to my destination with renewed vigor made me feel alive again.
Or in short words I was running.
My feet carried me towards the strip of land that has been married by the charred tires of the burning F1 cars, the man responsible for such carnage walking menacingly towards the machines capable of mowing through any lesser man.
I look up to find a giant screen showing Tony Starks blue F1 car speeding towards the walking whip of death, unknowing of what awaited him on the next turn. I was too late and he did make the turn but the man on the road wasn't one for letting any vehicle pass through without answering his hits.
I watched on as Howards car split in 2 once The car tried to turn away from the man and slow down, my heart skipped a beat but it was for naught as Tony emerged from his vehicle, mostly unharmed. I found myself sighing in relief before running faster.
After a few minutes I heard the telltale sound of a cat speeding through asphalt but the familiar sound felt alien on the tracks of an F1 race where formula cars buzzed away in speeds unknown. The sound came closer and close before Coulsons voice informed me loudly "Get in Captain".
I turn just in time to catch the Black SUV driving past me with its door open on my side, I get in with a quick leap. The door closes and the car lurches back as the driver hits the pedal to the metal once more. I watch with quiet resilience as I prepare to fight the monster on the race track without any of my gear. Happy, the bodyguard of Tony since 1997 was driving the vehicle with remarkable skill.
The thin sheen of sweat on his forehead signifying his effort in driving through the mage of wrecked cars, I wince as Happy hits the man who was about to slice Tony in half like the cars into the fence of the race track.
I thought that was it but it seems to me that this man is capable of big physical feats like me, if he is capable of moving after such a hit, I turn just in time to hear Tony yell at me "Throw that briefcase at me" I immediately comply and throwing it near his feet. He steps on the suitcase and I watch as he transforms into his Iron suit.
The man uses his whip to cut through the door on the left, that takes away both the tires on that side effectively trapping us on the track but the retribution I was expecting hadn't happened as he ignored us and headed towards Tony who was holding on his own exceptionally well but the suit seemed like a rushed job.
I decided to simply help him by going back to my roots as I held the sliced of door of the SUV and slam it on the back of the man's head. He falls down and I greet Tony "I hope you don't do something like this again" Tony gestured at his arms which were engaged in the whips as he says "I was taking care of it"
