The poor guy was too scared to protest.
Dialing the police station, Aiden spoke quickly.
"Hello, police? Yeah, I need to report something. I think I just pulled a body out of the lake."
He rattled off the location details.
On the other end, the dispatcher was just as stunned.
A body? In their peaceful town of Yurnsville?
It sounded like a case straight out of a crime drama.
As soon as Aiden finished the call, he handed the phone back to the passerby, who was still too shocked to react.
The police arrived quickly, sirens blaring.
When the captain, Harrison Black, saw the lake and the floating "corpse," he grimaced.
It really did look like a body.
"Start preparing for recovery," Harrison ordered, his expression serious.
They needed to handle this delicately.

When they finally pulled it ashore, the truth became painfully clear.
Aiden stared at the so-called "body," his face drained of all color.
It wasn't a corpse at all.
It was an inflatable doll.

He had just salvaged someone's discarded blow-up doll?
What the hell kind of day was this?!
The police captain's face darkened as he took in the scene.

So, after all that, it was just a freaking doll?
He couldn't exactly blame Aiden, though. From a distance, it had looked convincing.
Still, the whole situation felt ridiculous.
The gathered crowd, previously buzzing with excitement, now looked thoroughly disappointed.
"That's it? An inflatable doll?"
"All that hype for this?"
"Who even tosses something like that in a lake?"
Grumbling, the crowd started to disperse.
The officers packed up, and Captain Harrison muttered a curt "dismissed."
Aiden stood there, deflated.
He'd been hoping for something a bit more… rewarding.
At least a free meal at the station!
But nope.
And worse, while everyone had been distracted by the doll, someone had swiped the metal scrap he'd salvaged earlier!
His stomach growled as he realized he'd have to settle for a measly snack instead.
With just two bucks in his pocket, he bought a bun from a nearby vendor.
Not even enough for a bag of pickled vegetables.
Aiden sat by the lakeside, chewing his plain bun and staring at the water.

But then, his joy evaporated as he peered into the car's interior.
