章 1: Gotcha

[A/N: Yo, welcome to my web novel. I am just gonna come out and say now I just mashed up a lot of my favorite types of novels into one for the hell of it.

I just really like Gacha novels(praise the gacha gods), transmigration into a novel as an extra and the MC using future knowledge to thwart oncoming threats, romance and small harems, dungeon and portal fantasy, and my personal favorite generic academy novels.

So, that's exactly what this is, I am not reinventing the wheel or doing something different. All this novel is a mishmash of those cliche stories but put into one, all with a vibrant world teeming with lore as a foundation.

It's pretty much a gimmick.

To sum it up, this is just a story of a MC using abilities from anime, video games, movies, books, and TV series in a fantasy world.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do writing it!]

Aaron Hill sat stunned, not because of the dark expanse of space around him, not because of the fact he was sitting on a comfortable armchair in that very same expanse, not because of the fact he was alive despite clearing dying in a car wreck mere minutes ago, and surprisingly not because of the Random Omnipotent Being before him either.

No, none of it surprised him much, he had read what was happening to him line by line at least a thousand times over in his free time.

He was simply speechless because of the very words the ROB—made up of space itself, gas giants for eyes and a curved nebula for a mouth—spoke to him.

"You will pick a world of your choosing, decide to be reborn or simply dropped in, and you will be given a Gacha System."

The thought of this being a dream surfaced briefly, but Aaron squashed it immediately, every ounce of his very soul screaming at him in protest for even thinking of the possibility.

He wanted this, a chance to throw away the mundane life he had been living and do something worthwhile. To go to a fictional world of his choosing, to be something more, and to live the life he wanted; all with the power of the omniverse at his fingertips with a gacha system.

"Choose."

The genderless reverb of the ROB's voice stirred him from his thoughts.

He swallowed hard, meeting those planets for eyes, and thought carefully. This was a literal God to someone like him, and a simple misspoken word could have his soul grinded into primordial dust with just a thought from it.

Although, the fact that he was being promised a second chance at life spoke of the ROB's goodwill, so after a brief glance thrown at the galaxies and darkness of space around him, he spoke steadily.

"The world of Naruto, preferably reborn as an Uchiha, and uh," He drummed his fingers on his thigh, "Actually that's all, I don't care when in the timeline as long as it's before the massacre."

This was a lot more awkward than he thought, saying out loud the very day dreams he had during lectures and while sitting in his dorm room, the escapism from such thoughts the only thing granting him any true semblance of joy as days went on.

However, he wasn't going to let something like embarrassment get to him, and it was probably the sensation of dying mellowing him and stunting much of his emotions.

"So it shall be done, I wish you well in your new life Aaron, you earned it with your karma. Do try to be entertaining though, and don't die too early."

The ROB's cosmic smile stretched across its humanoid head, Aaron getting the slightest of chills from it, but nonetheless matching it with one of his own.

'A second chance.'

It was exhilarating to think he of all people would be able to do the very things he read about. He also mentally giggled at the thought of him eventually praying to the Gacha Gods to get a good pull, but that was him getting ahead of himself.

The ROB slowly stood, a spatial distortion of something akin to an arm stretched toward Aaron, and without any warning all, the muted emotions came back to him.

The fact that he died, his parents, his siblings, his friends, and how he was never going to see them again.

'I'll try to be someone you guys can be proud of' his thoughts conveyed clearly that he wasn't ashamed of his current situation.

However, before darkness greeted him, a sound of shattering glass came from his left.

Aaron was only able to turn for a second, catching a glimpse of a rift that had opened in space, long and ethereal black tentacles reaching through and toward the ROB.

Then, before he could even think about what he saw, everything simply went black.

Time didn't pass in whatever state he was suddenly submerged in, though he could think, and because he didn't feel his body he could only assume he had been reborn.

'I'm going to be a baby again…'

What was life without obstacles, and if he had to be a drooling mess for a few years before he could become a ninja god, then by all means it was worth it.

Aaron already started making plans, loose ones that with a small tug would most likely unravel, but if he was going to spend nine months with nothing to do, and a few years of being a toddler after that too; then he might as well do something.

However, just as he was planning how he was going to keep thwarting the massacre and steal Shishui's eye if he couldn't keep him alive, he heard a growl.

Slowly, Aaron realized he was standing, the heartbeat in his chest a good indicator he was alive again, but he was at a loss as a faint smell of iron and ash stung his nose.

'What?'

Eyelids were pulled back, and Aaron grew still as he took in the sight before him.

A wooden room, one empty and about fifty feet across, a single door, a stone ceiling that was arched, and a single rainbow diamond the size of a basketball embedded in the middle of it almost like a disco ball.

'What?'

Aaron was more than confused, and if he had more time he could have figured out what the hell was going on, but the wolf that came up to his chest, with fur a dark crimson, eyes of gray promising death currently staring him down, a mouth frothing with a tongue lolled out in anticipation took most of his focus.

It jumped, and only by instinct did Aaron evade, throwing himself to the side and harshly thudding on the wooden tiles. The breath was knocked out of him, and he quickly started scrambling to his feet, struggling to get his hands to help push him up since he suddenly noticed he was actually holding a dark silver dagger.

He didn't get much time to think about why he had it either, because the red wolf before him opened its mouth, aimed it at him, and shot out a small gout of fire.

"Agh!" Aaron jumped back, but the damage was already done, his left arm that had instinctively came out to protect himself instantly exploding with pain, the stench of burned hair washing over him as he tumbled back.

His mind clouded over from it, since the most pain he had ever felt was his shattered leg during the car accident that killed him, and even then he had been already fading into oblivion to even really feel it.

No, this was real unfiltered pain, and only by the grace of God did his adrenaline finally kick in and start to ease it.

Gritting his teeth, Aaron turned, eyes widening as he saw the crimson wolf already jumping toward him, and with what little functioning thought he had left, he gripped his dagger and thrusted.

A whine, a loud thud, and Aaron laid sprawled out, face twisted in disgust as opened his eyes he had closed on instinct to see his dagger hilt deep through the wolf's jaw and into its skull.

Huffing and puffing, Aaron gathered his strength and pushed the wolf off him, burnt arm screaming at him in agony but going ignored since he had bigger issues to deal with.

First, where the hell was he?

He was supposed to be a baby, reborn anew, not in his…

His eyes wandered up to see locks of black hair matted to his forehead from sweat, not the dirty blonde it should be, and his heart almost skipped a beat as he realized this was not his body.

'So, I took over someone's body, that's okay, not what I asked for but in the same ballpark right?'

Curse his optimistic mind, because despite almost dying, at least he hadn't woken up in a hospital on Earth, possibly crippled for life.

He could rest assured his meeting with ROB hadn't been a dream.

This was real, the wolf, the fire, the pain, it was all real.

However, Aaron didn't remember red wolves in Naruto, but he knew from countless reading experiences that the world would be living and breathing world, not what the clearly stylized anime showcased.

"Fuck that hurts," Aaron bit his lip, taking a moment to nurse his arm and see the damage.

However, much like the last two minutes, another curveball was thrown his way.

A green aura suddenly encased his body, and like magic, he watched as his blistered and bleeding skin knitted itself together, looking like he had never been injured in the first place.

The creek of a door grabbed his attention, especially as a man casually walked in, gray robes concealing his frame and stopping at the top of his clean black boots.

The man was middle aged, handsome, and had wavy short black hair slicked to the side.

The detail that stood out the most were his golden eyes though, shining with a faint light and a cold authority.

"Are you well, examiner, ah sorry, do you prefer Lord?"

Aaron sat frozen, turning to look at his arm, soaking in the fact he had been called 'examiner' and not a name, and turned back to give a small nod.

He was on edge as well, unsure what was going to happen next, because he definitely did not recognize the man before him as a character in Naruto.

"Hm," The man grunted. "I assume that was your first taste of real combat, a shame, but we cannot force Lords to train their children before sending them our way. Truly a shame."

Aaron blinked once, the "Truly a shame" line sparking something familiar in the back of his mind, and with a turn to see the corpse red wolf, it also seemed familiar.

He also noticed his only weapon was still stuck in it, so if this man attacked him in any capacity, he was going to have to use his fists.

Thankfully, the man gave only a brief chuckle, "Peace Lord Bennet, I am no Rune Beast, I won't be biting or pouncing anytime soon."

'Rune Beast?'

Those two words were like a puzzle piece, and Aaron, still sitting, looked up at the man before him.

In his head he remembered the description of a character he had read about.

'Tall, with dark midnight silky hair combed perfectly to the side, and a jaw strong enough to hold glimmering golden eyes filled with so much to tell. A voice that had the female students replaying his boring lectures in their head, honestly, a good tactic if any to make them remember them.'

"Professor Shroud?" Aaron spoke, picking up on the fact his voice was deeper than it should be.

'Oh right, new body.'

"Oh, have you heard of me?" Shroud smiled charmingly, "All good things I hope, but a glib tongue won't have you walking the halls of King's Sword."

The mention of 'King's Sword' confirmed his suspicions, and the realization sunk its claws into Aaron and ripped out any lingering hope he still had.

He knew where he was, and it was definitely not the Konoha. No, it was the web novel he had been reading before he had died, having finished the latest chapter of what felt like only hours ago to him.

'A Villain Has A Heart Too You Know?' was a romance action novel about a villain who attacked the obvious protagonist character, after being humbled in a duel, he slowly learns to become a good person, a leader, and also happens to win over most of the protagonist's soon to be harem, especially since said protagonist ends up becoming a villain later on and killed.

It was a novel that put a spin on the generic academy novel, focusing on the third rate first arc villain who rises to become good, while also showing how a protagonist with everything going for him could fall.

All fine, but Aaron was not supposed to be here, he was supposed to be an Uchiha in the Hidden Leaf Village.

So why?

"Lord Bennet?" Professor Shroud pulled Aaron from his debilitating thoughts.

Despite this sudden turn of events, he had enough sense of self to know he was no longer in his body, and now he desperately needed information.

It was a novel, he had vague descriptions, names, and personalities to spot characters, that was it. There was one of the heroines on the cover, but he was clearly not her, so now he had to figure out if he was a major character or not, Bennet was a common last name in the world afterall.

"First names are fine." His voice was still shaky, and who could blame him, he had just killed something for the first time.

Thankfully, much of his conflicting emotions was muddled by the fact it was a Rune Beast, a tried and true monster who only wanted to kill.

"Ha," Professor Shroud nodded, "Cozying up won't either, but thankfully I have good news for you Liam. Of the two thousand initiates who have come to take the exam, only eight hundred passed, meaning the last two hundred of your class have to come from, well, from those who wouldn't have."

Riff raff, Aaron knew the man wanted to say it, but his professionalism probably told him that calling a possible student weak right after almost dying to a crimson wolf was not a good idea.

At least now Aaron had an idea of where he was, he also knew the thing that attacked him was a crimson wolf, one of the weakest Rune Beasts in the novel…

Plus, the professor had just said his new name, Liam, Liam Bennet.

A name Aaron had no recollection of.

An extra.

'Great.'

"You at least killed it, which I can't say the same for a lot of others." Professor Shroud walked forward, helping Aaron to his feet and dusting off his shoulders. "Don't worry, Miss Applebottom will see that you learn to fight."

Aaron could only nod, so much going through his head at the moment he didn't particularly feel up to pretending to be someone else or trying to fit in. He was supposed to be in Naruto, he was supposed to be reborn, to have time to make master plans and gather powers with his Gacha system to become OP.

What the hell was this?

Aaron stayed silent, letting Shroud, a pivotal character in 'A Villain Has A Heart Too You Know? who regularly butted heads with Damien, the so-called protagonist, not the actual one, talk him through the next few minutes.

He was given a single King's Sword Academy's uniform to change into when he could, and a promise of more to be put in his dorm room, and was shown past the examination room.

He was also given a hollow stone, the fantasy phone-like equivalent, which he would use exclusively at the academy for security reasons. The stone object had taken a drop of his hair, matching it to him for the remainder of his time at King's Sword, and that was it.

Aaron, now Liam, was escorted to a dorm room by a second year, not even able to take in the sight of a real fantasy world academy, his mind practically static at this point.

Eventually though, when the door behind him clicked shut, Aaron snapped back to reality, eyes scanning the small dorm room he would now have to call home.

However, before he could even begin to pick it apart from a modern one, his attention was grabbed by something else.

A blue screen slid into existence, and Aaron stared at it in silence, not even reading it for the moment.

He laughed.

Harder than he had any right to, but the absurdity of his situation warranted it. He had slowly been making himself swallow the hard pill about how he was not going to get his second chance in his favorite anime, and that his Gacha system was most likely gone with the wind.

He assumed the reason he didn't get anything he was promised was because of what he saw before he had woken up in this body. Possibly maybe an enemy ROB or cosmic horror having decided to crash the party? Either way, with no message or note in Aaron's pocket, 'not even a sorry huh?' He was stuck here.

"Well," He only spoke aloud to keep himself grounded. "A second chance is a second chance."

He still had his memories, he was still him, he had future knowledge since he had read the latest chapter of the novel he was in, and now, he also had the Gacha System he was promised at least.

So, he finally read, and what he saw made all the worries he had disappear.
