The ravens squawking startled me. I hadn't realized Thought and Memory perched behind Odin, hunched low on his shoulders, almost hidden in the silver of his hair. When they fluttered their wings in response to his words, I took a half step back before rubbing at the goosebumps on my arms.

But, they also gave me time to think about what Odin just confessed. "You know about Rome?" Of course he did, what a silly question. Everyone knew about Rome by now, about Delilah and the bridge. But did the Allfather also know what I knew, or what I thought I knew? That Rome was meant to fall?

He sighed, deep and long, ruffling the edges of his thick mustache while the ravens settled once again, their beady black eyes shimmering as they stared at me in unreadable focus. Odin's single eye fixed on the stone below his throne, one large, meaty hand stroking his beard in an absentminded rhythm.
