章 2: Ch.02
After pondering for 2 minutes I decided to pay for the registration. Once the transaction was complete the female worker smiled while giving me my personal Descender's license.
Before I walked away towards the entrance, which has massive entrance and stairs declining downward, the desk lady stopped me to inform me of the benefits. "With this license, you have access to the 5th floor, the ability to take on request/commission, and the Descender's database."
"A database? I didn't know they had a database here in this building, maybe I should read up on what's on each floor to know what I'm going to be facing against."
Once the lady has finished her explanation I responded with a question " where is this database located?".
She didn't respond but rather point towards the building that has the appearance of a store before replying to my question "if you go into that store you can get your personal phone to access the database personally or you can use our terminal to access the database for a fee of 2$."
I gave out a quiet sigh as my plan of learning before execution go down the drain. I said my thanks to the lady before finding an empty seat on a bench on the wall and sat down to think about my next action. "I have wanted to use the 20$ to find a decent hotel to rest, my options are now either the restrooms or the streets both of which I really don't want to rest at."
As I sat and rethink both choices I glance at the massive entrance ways of downward stairs. In doing so a sudden thought that not even I considered if not due to the circumstances ran across my mind, "Should I rest in the first layer? It shouldn't be that dangerous plus I have a chance of finding some useful things if I look around."
With my mind made up I stood up and made my way towards the massive entrance with downward stairs that has signs indicating the stairs destination towards the first layer. As I take my first step onto the stairs an image appears before me stating [Welcome Ben].
Surprised by the sudden midair message I froze up before asking it what it was mentally, I didn't want to look weird talking to myself on my Friday day.
I stare casually at the message in hope of a response and without a second of delay, the message changes its text to [I am the System].
Intrigued by the functionality of the System I continue asking questions in hope of learning more about it while making my way down to the first floor.
"What's your purpose?" I ask internally. Just like the previous response time the system answer
swiftly with [I am your personal guide in the abyss].
"For what reason do I need a guide?"
[My purpose is to provide you information regarding floors, creatures, relics, directions, and personal information].
"Who implemented this system?"
[I was implemented by the abyss]
"What? What does that mean?" I reply back with more confusion than clarity by the response of the system.
[The abyss requires balance as such I was created]
"…what? Is there any way to simplify what you stated?" I ask with little hope of a clear answer
[No]
"Then how come only I can see you but everyone I have walked past didn't show any interest ?"
[I am only assigned to you personally while others are assigned to their own personal system, no two people can view another system as a means of privacy and protection]
After walking for 5 minutes I noticed a light shining bright from the other side of a massive opening very similar to that of the stair entrance. As I walk into the light I felt its warmth on me identical to the sun outside, however, the time is now 11:35 PM.
"This must be the abyss's floor personal ecosystem that I've read about back in the library" Every floor is different compared to one another some are similar but no two are the same.
"Hey … um system?" I ask not knowing what to call it.
[Yes]
"Is there a safe place to sleep on the first floor?"
[Yes]
"Really !" I replied back with excitement
[Inside a Borga]
"Oh nice … wait … what?! When you mean inside you meant I have to literally be inside a Borga!?"
[Yes]
A Borga is a large animal that appears on the first and second layer of the abyss, they are known for their size and are one of many sources of meat for the city due to their rich fat and quality. They are not hostile creatures but when provoked they can be very dangerous if one is to fight them blindly, the best method is to try and topple the creature before attacking its soft underbelly. They have no natural enemy on the first floor due to their size.
"Why do I have to sleep in one?"
[No known life on the first floor would attack a Borga]
"Why is that?"
[Due to their size and nature when provoking all life on the floor one does not engage them in any conflict for any reason]
"So they're pretty much at the top of the food chain"
[Yes]
"Is there really no other way?"
[No]
With the plan set up, I reluctantly started hunting for a Borga.
As I walk through the forest I encountered various small creatures fighting amongst each over the dead remains of other life forms.
As I continue walking for the next 30 minutes while hiding to evade packs of Zumba, small floor one creatures known for their weak attacks when independent but very dangerous when in a pact of 4 or more.
When I climbed onto the top of what looked to be a boulder I noticed a Borga sleeping upright.
"So they sleep while standing? Weird "
As I got closer to the clueless creature I started thinking as to how I should, or rather could take this creature down.
