"What?"
After the doctor declared they had done all they could, everyone present was stunned, their expressions varying.
William Cole's mind buzzed as if struck by lightning. He had yet to ask about Mrs. Cole's condition and now she was already...
"Mom, Mom!"
Kirk Cole wailed inconsolably, tears gushing forth. Whether these were genuine or feigned was anyone's guess.
Regardless, Mrs. Cole had raised him for over twenty years; even raising a dog would create an emotional attachment. Now that Mrs. Cole had suddenly passed away, Kirk felt an immense emptiness inside.
But with that emptiness came a surging ambition. With Mrs. Cole gone, no one could control him anymore.
"Mom, sob, sob! Why? Why did this happen..." Kirk knelt on the ground, repeatedly kowtowing in the direction of the operating room.
James Blair walked over and patted his shoulder, "It's alright. The dead cannot be brought back to life. Mourn her passing but accept this change."
