章 26: Noke Drink
Deb Oh was beginning to get hungry, her last meal was the Big Bac meal from Bcdonalds with a slap of chocolate cookies for lunch. Starving was a mild way to put the state of her stomach.
"I may have to warm the leftover rice and shrimps and chicken. I'll take the can of Noke from the fridge to drink with my food!"
Deb Oh had a sweet tooth and would indulge herself with her usual drink of Noke during her meals.
In the past her mother and uncle will complain that she should cut down on her sugar intake. Deb Oh knew the effect that high levels of artificial sweeteners and sugars could do to the body, the pancreas which was the organ that released insulin a chemical that breaks glucose from the sugar, this organ will overwork itself causing a condition known as diabetes.
Deb Oh made the conscious effort to leave her Noke drink unfinished at times, this was her way of fighting the cravings for sugar.
"I wonder if Ta has finished studying for the exam?"
Deb Oh was friends with an older student in her class, the two were from minority groups and this was one of the things that brought them together. Ta was a divorced man with children older than Deb Oh this was why she was comfortable around him because of the generational gap.
