章 7: Ch.7 First Day

Annabeth's POV-

Last night after the feast we were taken to the common room we will be staying out for the school year. The decor in the room was our colors, purple and white. We didn't spend much time in the common room last night, since we were all tired. I was one of the first ones to leave and find the rooms that have our beds. There was this one door that said ladies dormitories, and there were five, four poster beds in the room, with our trunks at the bottom. I ended up taking a book and reading until I fell asleep.

Morning arrived at Hogwarts, along with our first full day. I got down to the Great Hall early, there were only a few other students there. We received our schedules, they were sitting on our table when we entered in the morning. Glancing at my schedule, I had Potions first, then Muggle Defense, and Transfiguration as my morning classes. When I looked up, I saw a few more students in the hall, although it is still kind of empty, none of my friends have come down yet either. I made sure I had everything I needed in my school bag and tested out some quills, since I have never used them before.

While I was practicing, I heard someone clear their throat near me. I looked up and saw a girl, who looked around my age, standing in front of me. "Hello, I'm Hermione Granger, I am an eighth year." She said, holding out her hand to me. As I shook her hand I introduced myself. "So what made the Americans want to see Hogwarts?"

"We are here for the experience, and who knows, maybe we can help each other." I answered, trying to be as vague as possible, Chiron told us that it is a secret. She sat down across from me, and I couldn't help but notice two guys looking over at us. "Who are they, they keep staring at us?" I asked her.

"Those are my best friends, I don't know what their problem is right now though. So what do you have as your first class?''

"Oh, I have potions."

"So you have potions with us Gryffindors, great so your group can follow us if you want."

"Yeah that sounds good, we haven't seen the school yet, we would probably get lost."

"That is a shame, if you want I can give you guys a tour one of these days."

"That actually sounds great, it would be such a help."

"Marvelous, okay so we can do it on Sunday, on Saturday is the Quidditch tryouts so that won't really work."

"Sunday works, thank you for this."

"It's my pleasure." She stayed at the table and we just talked to get to know each other and everything that goes around in the castle. She asked a couple of questions about what it is like in America, and what part we were from, but most of the conversation rotated around Hogwarts. I'm grateful that she showed up at the table, because we would be so lost. As we continued chatting, the rest of the students came down, and my friends also continued asking her questions, I sort of felt sorry for her. She was being bombarded with questions from everyone. Percy was the last person down from the friend group, he came and sat down besides me, he wrapped his left arm around me as he ate.

Finally, it was time to head to our first class, and as promised, Hermoine let us follow her to the classroom, we left early so she could point some stuff out to us along the way. We made our way to the dungeon, and met with the potion's teacher.

"And this is the class, you are lucky that we have Professor Slughorn, he is a little bit weird but better than the last professor. This class may be difficult, but if you ever need help just ask me." Hermione states, leading us to the classroom door.

"Thank your Hermione, you really are saving us. Without you we definitely would not have gotten this far." I respond kindly.

"Oh it was no problem at all, see you guys later." She stalks off into the classroom and we follow behind her. Hermione goes and sits with the two boys that she is always with and we stand there not knowing where to sit. After a little bit, who I am assuming is the professor, walks into the class. He motions us to sit at a table in the middle of the room towards the left.

"Hello class, if you don't know me, my name is Professor Slughorn and I am your potions teacher this year. Since most of this group are those who skipped last year due to the war, your course would be similar to the seventh years now, but I have made it a bit more challenging for you, and I hope you can take it. I just want everybody to raise their textbook, just want to see if everyone has it." I start to scrummage through my bag, but I end up finding the Advanced Potion Making by Libatius Borage, it was difficult because the book was smaller than the others. I raise it in the air and so does the rest of the class. "Alright, we won't be using them today, but I was just making sure." He then goes on explaining how the year is going to go, percent on grading and how we have to take the N.E.W.Ts with the seventh years. I don't know what that is, but it sounds important. I start taking down some notes to help with my time management for the year and I hear giggles beside me. I turn and see the boys goofing off and not paying attention.

"Guys, we have to pay attention, this is class." I say to them.

"Oh, relax Hermione, it's not like this matters to us, we are only here for this year." Leo comments.

"Yeah, but we still have to blend in, and although it doesn't bother us, you are making a ruckus and other people's lives depend on this."

"Gods, you are taking this too seriously, besides it's the first day, no one is paying attention." Before I can comment any further, the class was dismissed, and we were off to find our next class. This time we are on our own.
