Sure enough, Ozymandias was not dead. He had caught the bullet with his bare hand. At most, it had only grazed his palm, leaving a minor wound.
On the contrary, the trio of heroes—Silk Spectre, Nite Owl, and Rorschach—had underestimated him. What began as a seemingly exaggerated tale turned into a harsh reality as Ozymandias effortlessly incapacitated them one by one.
Supergirl—Kara Zor-El—stood silently with her arms crossed, observing the entire scene without participating.
After dealing with his "old friends," Ozymandias turned his attention to Kara, who had been watching from the sidelines. A confident smirk spread across his face, one he believed to be charming. (As a character trait, Ozymandias not only considers himself the smartest man alive but also the most beautiful—a true narcissist.)
"And who might you be? Are you here to stop me too?" Ozymandias asked, his voice dripping with self-assurance.
Kara shrugged nonchalantly. "Don't bother asking. If I make a move, you won't survive."
His smirk deepened, readying a sharp retort. However, before he could speak, Kara's eyes flared red, unleashing two beams of searing heat vision. The rays, glowing a brilliant blue at their core, emitted temperatures so intense that the entire facility felt like a blazing furnace in the middle of summer.
BOOM!
Kara's heat vision tore through every obstacle in its path, leaving a massive, molten hole in the wall behind Ozymandias.
For the first time, Ozymandias froze. His mind raced as he processed the sheer destructive power of the woman before him—far beyond anything he had ever encountered.
Kara's expression remained calm, almost bored. "The only reason I haven't ended you is because you're his problem."
She raised a finger, pointing upward.
Ozymandias followed her gesture, his gaze traveling through the shattered skylight. Beyond the opening, he saw an enormous blue figure hovering in the sky.
Dr. Manhattan. He wasn't dead. The reconstruction of his body had been completed faster than anyone anticipated.
"Adrian," Dr. Manhattan's voice boomed as he descended, effortlessly shattering the entire skylight with a single gesture.
Glass shards rained down, but before they could reach anyone, Kara raised her hand. The fragments froze mid-air before transforming into fluttering butterflies that flew harmlessly away.
"By the way," Kara said with a smirk, "this would be the perfect time to take care of your cheating girlfriend too."
Though Silk Spectre and the others had been in the range of Manhattan's destruction, Kara had subtly intervened. Not that it was necessary; even in his dispassionate state, Dr. Manhattan wouldn't have allowed them to die.
With a soft swish, Dr. Manhattan dissolved his massive form into glowing particles and reassembled himself beside Kara.
Kara sighed, placing a hand over her eyes. "Seriously, can't you put on some clothes? I mean, come on—I'm a girl here."
Dr. Manhattan tilted his head slightly, nodding once in acknowledgment, before turning his attention back to Ozymandias.
The so-called smartest man alive had scrambled to a video wall during the chaos and was now seated calmly, watching as the towering, blue-skinned entity approached. He made no effort to run; resistance was futile.
"Adrian," Dr. Manhattan began, his voice carrying an eerie calm, "you pride yourself on being the smartest man on Earth, yet that means nothing to me. Did you truly believe you could kill me? Perhaps you've forgotten that the accident which created me also made me unkillable. Reconstructing my body was the first thing I learned."
Ozymandias listened without interruption, his face a mask of calm resignation.
"You cannot comprehend the world as I see it," Dr. Manhattan continued. "You couldn't even fathom that I've walked on the surface of the sun."
Kara clapped lightly, grinning. "Nice. The sun's core is toasty. Great place for a stroll."
The room fell silent. Everyone, including Ozymandias, turned to stare at Kara in disbelief. Even Dr. Manhattan hesitated momentarily before responding.
"I've yet to visit the core," he admitted. "Perhaps I will someday."
"Let me know. I'll come with you," Kara quipped, clearly entertained by the absurdity of their conversation.
The tension in the room dissipated momentarily as bewilderment took over. Even Ozymandias found himself at a loss for words.
After a moment, Dr. Manhattan refocused, raising his hand toward Ozymandias. "Adrian, even your intellect is no more significant than a clever termite to me. And yet, despite your delusions of grandeur, you remain nothing more than an ant."
"I know," Ozymandias replied calmly. There was no anger in his voice—after all, what was the point of being insulted by a god?
He smiled as he revealed a remote control in his hand and pressed a button.
Instantly, the video wall lit up, displaying a broadcast of global leaders addressing the public. The speeches declared Dr. Manhattan a global threat and public enemy number one, accusing him of killing millions of people. Nations across the globe had united in their determination to confront him.
Kara burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. "Oh my God! Stop, I can't—this is hilarious!" She waved her hand dismissively, tears streaming from her eyes. "Seriously, do you people hear yourselves? Declaring war on someone who could obliterate the planet with a single thought? What, do you think he's going to send a strongly worded letter in response?"
The room fell silent once more as Kara continued to laugh uncontrollably.
"If Manhattan were your enemy," she added between chuckles, "you'd already be dead. No speeches, no second chances. Just… gone."
Dr. Manhattan glanced at Kara briefly before turning back to Ozymandias. His expression remained impassive as he said, "Even united, the world would still be powerless against me."
Ozymandias remained unshaken, his enigmatic smile never faltering.
