Left behind while the family went for training, my lovely Luke was out with them, and there was nothing to do but sit in the house and worry like a war wife.

When milling about lost its appeal after about ten minutes, all in all, I decided to try and do something useful. So, I put the kettle on.

It was a nice sort of ritual to have. Searching for the kettle in the plethora of cupboards in the kitchen, I finally found an old-fashioned brass rendition meant to be heated on the stove. I took off the lid with the tell-tale tink sound older kettles tended to make.

The stove light was already glowing a soft orange and the burner gradually turned from black to angry red as I filled the kettle from the tap. The window over the sink gave me an uninterrupted view of the wilderness beyond.
