Olivia POV
The funding was secured, and the plans were laid. I was thankful my mother was so supportive of my dreams, even when they came out of nowhere. But the high of that didn’t keep my mind away from running.
Something tugged at my heart when I thought of leaving Ellis. Or, more likely, Ellis staying right where he was while I left. Doing what was needed, while he stayed where he was most comfortable.
I had done it before and for not nearly so compelling a reason. It should have been easier that time. But it wasn’t. The danger was real, but so was his devotion. He actually meant it when he said we would be safer at the Peterson house.
If only I could believe that all of our lives would be better. But security officers could be bought off, security systems and doors could be breached. Especially if the enemy knew where you were.
