"Stop it!" They both glowed ever brighter and almost seemed to exude lightning from themselves. "We will not become gods yet!" Atem and Yugi both yelled out very loud.
"Not become gods?"
Omnipotence. Yugi and Atem both glowed with the power flowing through them. They were almost gods, but- "No," they both said at the same time, "not yet. Something's wrong."
They were talking in sync for some reason? They must be nearly there, but they would never be together. Why were they choosing in sync?
Yugi spoke first. "I can't go out like this. I know the truth that's been hidden now. The little gods, weren't gods."
"They were taken from ten thousand years in my past," Atem said. "They were conceived, when we were one with the First Tear of Ra. During our fishing time."
Yugi felt the strength to accomplish any dream with any challenge without fear like Atem. Atem felt the nerves and awkward silliness of Yugi.
Together, like they should have been. Téa and Masika were one too, as they should have been.
A smaller god showed up, and played a few chords of a song. "Yeah, that was me. Now that your going to become gods, I'd thought you'd like a heads up from that era."
"Who are you?" Yugi didn't get it. Neither did Atem.
"That's Bes," Bastet explained. "Get used to gods bothering you now, and that tune was sung for the last dimension of you that you are picking up."
"So we don't know it, but another of us does," Yugi said.
"You will know it soon," Bastet said. "So why stop?"
"Our monster battle we fought with Bakura," Yugi said sadly. "That wasn't the end of the story, the rest was hidden."
"Yep, yep," Bes agreed. "Not every god knows everything, but no god knows nothing. I watched you guys play against Zorc and Set against all the odds, and it was impressive. Consider me your ally in games, challenges, fights and universal wars. Sorry about the depth of the vision. Taweret also helped with it, and with you at this moment experiencing your first godly building? It was probably pretty intense."
"It felt like . . ." Atem and Yugi spoke together again.
"Like you relived it for like sixteen years again?" They both nodded. "Sorry. Too much pow there," Bes apologized. "It hasn't been sixteen years, more like sixteen seconds."
"What did you see?" Bastet asked Yugi and Atem.
"The First Tear of Ra did conceive once," Atem told them. "With me. Us. Gods don't bear outside of their realm. We were not gods."
"We are becoming, but we weren't," Yugi continued, "but we would be."
"Perhaps we were just a mortal man that was chosen to lay with the First Tears of Ra, to help her in her struggle. The dreams certainly leaned it that way. The gods did love her enough, they would do that," Atem reasoned. "Give her someone who loved her. Who wanted to create family with her."
"But, the fight with Set changed everything. They probably sensed that we might be destined for more. We couldn't just stay simple and be happy with our wife and child," Yugi said softly. "While futures are read, life happens. Life still happened."
"So, then the First Tear of Ra never conceived because . . .?" Bastet was starting to understand. "Her chosen became a would be god before her first was born?! The creation could not be, but no one would dare mess with the First Tear of Ra's child. Without passing on or giving life, no other child could be given. Had Thoth seen it? Had Thoth known?"
"Had Horakhty?" Sekhmet growled. She growled at Bes. "Bes!"
"What? Hey, I found out later. Then I wanted to wait until I could almost tell them. Omnipotence set in and there you go," Bes said.
"Then those little gods?" Sekhmet growled.
"Are not gods," Atem and Yugi both agreed.
"Yet," Yugi added.
"Their mother no longer existed. Their father no longer existed. They only exist in halves." Bastet was pulling it together. "Oh no wonder they were noooot happy about the splitting we performed on them. Mm." Her tail curled. "I see, I see."
"Share what you see then!" Yugi and Atem both yelled at her, very pissed off.
"Sorry. You see? Hardly things get away, when they do, it is given at the end. It's a balance thing of the universe. Once we divided you, they could never be, but they had to be."
"Yeah they had to be, it was ordained, just held off," Bes agreed. "I knew it as soon as I found out about it."
"Where did you find out?" Sekhmet asked.
"Taweret, I already said that," Bes said. "She's a long time ally. That whole thing was taken away, so we gave it back." He fluttered toward the not so great looking Yugi and Atem. "Allies can make or break you. Remember that. Taweret didn't have to share, so remember that too."
"Ugh! We were not allowed to see?!" Sekhmet groaned. "We all jumped into the light."
"But you don't know what happened anymore than us," Atem accused them. "You assumed whoever was helping create these avatar gods, was on your side."
"I can't use 'avatar gods' for them," Yugi said. "I still raised them as my own. I have no regrets about that. I was there for them. In only one dimension, but I still remember. Hi and Sil." Thousands of different memories sifted through him, yet he did remember. He could concentrate and just focus on that.
"I . . . have nothing of them?" Atem answered honestly. "Only of Silhouette, holding onto my jacket and chewing on it," Atem looked at the jacket he was now wearing. "The cats. You swore they were avatars, using you and your soul sister!"
"Well, they should have been!" Sekhmet yelled back.
"Sorry," Bastet apologized. "We do not have as many friends as we used to. For some reason when we split you all, we seemed to almost be outcasted by most. It didn't make much sense, gods had done far worse than us." She looked toward Bes. "Now it does. We put destiny into a bind." She nodded to Atem and Yugi. "We will find these hidden secrets for you. It will be okay, you can rely on us. Become gods, marry your chosen, and your children will stay with you in your new paradise. They are known now."
"A happy ending to all?" Yugi asked as he looked at Bes. "Without knowing what happened? Why that happened? I don't know. I want to know what-"
---
Destiny. A happy eternity with their wives and children. Yugi and Atem started to walk forward, but something happened.
Masika tugged on Silhouette. "What's wrong?" Silhouette could not come closer. "Silhouette?"
"Momma Masika?" Silhouette held tighter to her doll.
Masika tried harder. Atem came over and tried to help, pushing magic into it, yet she could not be budged any closer.
Isis appeared with a solemn face. "I am sorry. You must leave Silhouette with Zorc. She still has demon power trapped within her, and cannot come with you to our lands."
What?! "You cannot expect me to leave her alone like that?" Atem said. "It cannot be much."
"The power of a god was pressed into her to help by Horakhty," Isis reminded them. "However, Zorc did not press, he made a deal. While some of it left, a small percent remains of .06%. Yet, it might as well be 10o percent. She is his cute little demoness, and must return to him."
What? "I cannot let that happen," Atem said. "I can't, there's no way Silhouette is going with him!"
"I cannot do this, I cannot leave her out there." Masika let go of Atem's arm. "I cannot, I am sorry. Someone must stay to protect her."
"Yugi, I cannot go," Atem stated. "I cannot do this!"
"Atem. We have to live there," Yugi said to him, holding onto Téa. She had Hikaru at her side, still six years old. "We are gods now. We can visit?"
"Oh sure, that's easy for you to say, that is not the average afterlife where I can just visit whenever I want, it is hell!" Atem shouted. "I can't do this, I can't!"
"It is together forever, and together apart," Isis said from behind. "This is as it must be, I am sorry."
"Horakhty would not have wanted this," Atem stated. "Never, Isis. You knew of our children, but you didn't somehow see this? I don't believe that!"
Isis did not respond.
"There must be another way. I can't let this happen." He watched as Silhouette just stood there, reaching out to Hikaru as Zorc appeared behind them.
"She is out of the cave," Isis said to him. "She lived and Masika lived. We all knew a price would be paid for that."
"Not this one!" Atem glared at Isis. "I am a god, I can do something!"
"Silhouette isn't a god, she had power pressed into her, but the deal with Zorc, did not press it. What are you not understanding in your omnipotence God Atem? Without godliness, that power could not be abolished. Even as a god, this cannot be undone. Even we have limits, consider it your first lesson. Go to your destiny."
"A lesson? Leaving them in hell is a lesson? I will not leave them!"
"She is his, and Masika will not return. She would rather traverse Zorc's domain and stay with the six year old demoness," Isis said. "A good Egyptian she is not, but as a mother, they do not come much better."
"I cannot leave it like this." Atem looked at Yugi. "She cannot come here."
"But you can come here!" Zorc laughed in a superiorly demonic fashion. "Come, God Atem! Dwell in my lands. Have your superior power with you, in a world you cannot do anything in."
"I can make sure they do not fall under your demonic control," Atem said. He looked back at Yugi.
"Together forever, and together apart. We can't be apart," Yugi said. "If you go, I go."
"I go too, I have to stay with Masika," Téa said. "I guess? We all . . . just go to hell together. Friendship into the depths of hell for eternity."
"My afterlife. She can stay in my old afterlife with me instead, as the Pharoah's wife and daughter? They can inherit that afterlife," Atem tried to reason with her. "Téa and Yugi can join me?"
"Right," Yugi agreed. "We could all do that?"
"You can't join that afterlife anymore, you are not only that Atem. You are not a single spirit, you are a god," Isis stated. "You did release someone else into that particular afterlife. If you wish to speak with him about taking your daughter and wife, and ruling in your stead? At least, they would not be left to demons for eternity."
"I am with Masika," Téa stated. "I have to stay." She looked toward Yugi. "Yugi. Can you visit?"
"You can visit the afterlife every once in awhile," Isis stated. "Not often. You will be new for some time, you'll need to get used to your power. Gods are strongest in our area."
"Every week?" Yugi asked. "Once a month?"
"There is no concept of time in the afterlife," Isis answered. "One second or one thousand years, it's all the same."
"Everyone goes to hell, or our wives and children go to Atem's afterlife," Yugi said softly. "It's not hard what to pick. We'll get this changed, as soon as we figure out a way. But."
"We would never let them be sent to hell." Atem watched as Bakura approached. "I want you to rule in my stead."
"Are you fucking nuts?" Bakura asked, still clearly himself. "You want me to rule your entire fucking Egyptian afterlife? Me?"
"If you take Masika, Téa, and Silhouette," Atem said softer. "Otherwise, they must go to hell."
Bakura looked toward them. "Why?"
"Silhouette has some of Zorc's power within her. She cannot come with us, and Yugi and I cannot go with her." Atem gestured to Téa. "She is tied to Masika and must go too."
"And him too." Yugi gestured to Hikaru. "I can't take him away from Téa."
"Wait, I am getting your whole kingdom, and both of your wives and children to keep them all out of hell?" Bakura asked. "You two messed up severely."
Yugi kissed Tea and hugged Hikaru, making his goodbyes.
Atem moved toward Masika and Silhouette. "I am sorry."
"Thank you for not sending us to hell," Masika thanked him. Silhouette didn't know what to say. Just as in life, she didn't know him. She was just carrying a dolly, looking at him. She waved the dolly's hand at him as they started to disappear.
Yugi and Atem, stood there. Shining with power, yet helpless to change what had happened.
