章 39: Issues after issues

Carter handed Olivia his clipboard that the group had seen around him plenty of times.

Olivia scanned the clipboard and proceeded to check some other files on her neatly stocked desk.

"Hmm? Umm, teacher Carter. Are you sure this is correct?" Olivia questioned Carter with a raised brow.

Slightly confused, he said "Yea? Is there a problem?"

"Um, the person named Xuan Li has been reported to have died at the reception desk from moving around during the teleportation phase, causing his body to split." Olivia explained to Carter the cause of this disruption.

Carter looked back at Xuan Li, his eyes glowing an orange hue, as he observed his body which Xuan Li responded by awkwardly holding his arms around his chest.

"Are you sure? This is Xuan Li, when he told me his name, I didn't detect any lies." Carter reassured Olivia and himself inwardly.

'Could I have made a mistake? Did I actually allow someone to infiltrate our Academy????'

Carter started to worry that he made a mistake. He knew if it was revealed of him bringing some imposter, the other teachers would never let him move past it and he could receive a deduction of his salary as punishment!

Olivia glanced at the report and back to Xuan Li "The photo provided resembles this man and if you can't detect anything that could disguise him then this is most likely Xuan Li. However, the receptionist couldn't have made a mistake, they even provided photo evidence of his halved body that remained."

Xuan Li started to receive strange looks from the other successful participants and Mark's sister hid behind his leg, looking at him with slight fear. The only ones that didn't give him a strange look were Iris, Flav, and the baby panther who just sighed.

'Can we get through anything peacefully?'

'Yikes, one of his death attempts came to backfire on him. hahaha'

'This idiot! Why does he bring trouble wherever he goes!?'

Xuan Li led with a cough "Well...sadly, I am still alive and well. I am no imposter, why would someone pretend to be a lowlife like me. I am Xuan Li!"

"OK, we'll have him see Elena later. She is the best at identifying concealment. Has she finished her exams?" After a thought, Carter came to this conclusion.

"Not yet. Yours and teacher Sapphire batch are the first to return. Plus, only a few teachers can teleport as skilfully as teacher Sapphire, so the others that finished are probably heading to the nearest teleportation array."

With his chin up high "Ah, right. Well it's to be expected that my group will be first. "

Olivia gave a smile and looked at the batch "Please, follow me as I guide you to your room."

The batch followed Olivia and Carter while Sapphire had to attend to other affairs. They went up to the first floor of the five story building. Each floor had a long corridor with each side having five doors each. In total, each floor had ten rooms.

"We at the Ascension Academy promote harmony between the two disciplines of cultivation and magic hence as a rule, you will share a room with someone of the opposite discipline. So, if your a cultivator, you will share a room with a mage of the same level."

"These pairings are final and even if one progresses faster then the other during their time, they will still have to share their room with the other. Only time a change could occur is if there is a justifiable reason that you cannot share a room with that specific person or at the end of your first year, you can request to change rooms for your second year dorms."

"Ivan, please head to room 05. Sebastian, head to room 07. Those are your rooms and go ahead and unpack your bags." Olivia guided the two to their specific rooms "Your pairs will be set up later."

Olivia repeated the process with the other participants, taking them up the floors which looked identical to the previous set. Iris was placed on the third floor while Flav was placed on the fifth floor and after everyone was given their rooms, only Xuan Li remained.

As Olivia was about to place Xuan Li in his room, she halted "Um, teacher Carter, what's his discipline?"

'What now?'

"Um..well he has no cultivation or magic level yet but has potential."

"Oh, I see. Well, what will he study? I'll arrange him with another person who also hasn't fully developed their discipline"

"Uh...he is special. He has great potential for either magic or cultivation. If I had it my way, he would definitely become a cultivator. However, Sapphire wouldn't allow me." He gave a sigh.

"This...how will he have a roommate, teacher Carter? " Olivia asked with confusion about Xuan Li's position.

"Have him room with Flav temporarily. Depending on his choice, he can be transferred later," Carter gave an answer after some thought.

"I will have to ask the council and headteacher if this will be permitted. For now, Xuan Li, head over to Flav's room. His room is number 52."

Xuan Li nodded and quickly bolted to Flav's room before any more problems occurred.

Seeing Xaun Li run upstairs, Olivia sighed "This new student is causing us a lot of problems. He is part of the group that broke the time of the Labyrinth clearance, is meant to be dead, has amazing potential at both arts...does he have an extraordinary background? I know status means nothing here but is he royalty? Or is he backed by insane powerhouses?"

"I have no idea but I feel like the Academy will be very interesting with him around. He reminds me of the genius Shen Longwei." Carter said with a reminiscent smile.

"Teacher Carter, please stop joking.The rumours were Shen Longwei was the Academy's worst student that he was even kicked out." Olivia gave a chuckle.

Carter gave a sorry look towards Olivia "Hm, maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. I am getting old. Anyways, I'll speak with the headmaster about Xuan Li's circumstances so don't worry about needing guidance from the council. See ya." Carter proceeded to walk out of the first year dormitory.

Olivia gave a bow "Enjoy your meeting teacher Carter"

He responded with a backhand wave, making himself look really cool.
