Chapter 4: Conversation of Father and Son, Test

"You have accepted quite a poisonous deal, father." The two father and son talked over as both of them were overlooking the vast ocean of Caladan.

"The Emperor set us up for failure. This deal was meant to weaken both Houses but if we managed to get this done right we will have power over spice. Our house is great but it could be greater." Leto said.

"But it will be dangerous." Jake said.

The original steward of Arrakis is House Harkonnen. They have been in control of spice production for 80 years, becoming the wealthiest House in the empire, even richer than the Emperor.

House Harkonnen, one of the Great Houses of the known universe, is a family known for its cruelty, ambition, and ruthless pursuit of power.

Originating from the industrial planet of Giedi Prime, House Harkonnen is led by the malevolent Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. The Harkonnens are characterized by their oppressive rule and exploitation of their subjects, using fear and brutality to maintain control.

But of course despite their power they are not capable of usurping the throne because the Emperor has control over the most powerful soldiers of the entire known universe.

Members of House Harkonnen are cunning, manipulative, and devoid of empathy. Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, in particular, is notorious for his sadistic tendencies and his schemes to undermine and destroy House Atreides.

The Baron's nephews, Rabban (known as "The Beast") and the cunning Feyd-Rautha, are groomed to follow in his footsteps.

And coincidentally House Harkonnen is House Atreides' rival. This decree would further drive a wedge between the two houses urging the other House to attack the Atreides.

"You are perfectly correct son, this is indeed a very dangerous deal. That's why I want you to be with me in Arrakis and help me get through this." He held out his hands and patted Jake's shoulder while saying.

"Protect your brother Paul. Protect him from the dangers of the desert, I know you are more than capable enough." Leto said in a pleading tone.

"You do not need to ask, father. I will also help you bring peace to Arrakis."

Then a silence prevailed between the two of them as both contemplated their current situation.

"Did you see another vision?" Leto asked, breaking the silence.

He and Jessica knew fully well about Jake's amazing and almost god-like ability to see the future. This was one of the reasons why House Atreides managed to get so successful, this helped him traverse the political landscape of the empire to a level so high that the emperor felt threatened by their existence.

"House Harkonnen will attack us with the Sardaukar. Someone from the inside will betray us." Jake said calmly. This revelation made Leto gasp in shock.

The Sardaukar are the elite military force of the Padishah Emperor in the empire, renowned for their unparalleled combat skills, loyalty, and fearsome reputation. They are considered the most formidable fighting forces in the galaxy, striking terror into the hearts of their enemies and serving as the Emperor's primary instrument of military power and control.

The mere presence of the Sardaukar on a battlefield often demoralizes enemy troops. Their reputation for brutality and efficiency precedes them, making them a powerful psychological weapon as well as a physical one.

They are the Emperor's enforcers, used to maintain his rule and suppress any threats to his power. They are deployed in critical battles and used to quash rebellions, ensuring the stability and dominance of the Corrino dynasty.

"Is this true son?" Those words were enough justification for the stoic Leto to be shocked.

"When has my vision ever been wrong?" Asked Jake.

"Never." And Leto replied in a confident and sure voice.

"Exactly, that is why we must prepare, father." Jake said.

*********

It was late in the night and a strong rain was engulfing Caladan. It was the usual nightly weather, this strong rain was nothing short of a breeze to the aquatic world.

The entire atmosphere was foggy but despite that condition a ship can be seen traveling and docking down.

Jessica was at the dock of the ship, wearing her full Bene Gesserit clothing while shaking violently in fear. This was different from her usual calm collected self.

The dark spherical ship's door opened revealing a procession of black clothed females known as the Bene Gesserit. On the front of the march was Gaius Helen Mohiam, the Truthsayer of the Emperor as well as the Reverend Mother of the Bene Gesserit.

Jessica looked at the Reverend Mother and ran towards her.

"Reverend Mother!" She called out.

With a stern voice the old woman spoke.

"Where is your son, Jessica?"

"Jake, or Paul?" She asked.

The old woman looked at her with furrowed eyebrows and said.

"Both!"

After receiving the guest, or rather what would look like a guest, Jessica guided them into her study room.

Then she headed towards Jake's room first but upon entering the building she saw Jake standing there calmly.

"You were waiting for me." Jessica said with a little shock.

"I was expecting you." Jake said as he walked towards her mother.

"So she has come to test me and Paul." He murmured.

"It won't be necessary. There is no need to test my brother, I'm going alone." Then he waited for her mother's response. After getting a small nod they walked towards the room where the Reverend Mother was.

The door opened and upon its opening the figure of the old Reverend Mother wearing her dark Bene Gesserit cloth was revealed.

Jessica shook. Her body instinctively fidget in nervousness at the sight of the Reverend Mother, years of her training wired for absolute obedience once again flooding back.

She was afraid of the test Jake was about to take.

"Leave us." Reverend Mother commanded Jessica with a stern voice; however before she could walk away, Jake's distorted Voice resounded.

"Stay." And Jessica stopped in her tracks.

He walked towards the old woman, his eyes glaring in calm anger, he was looking very displeased at the Reverend Mother.

The old woman was caught off guard and was shocked, the display of Jake's powerful Voice surprised her. She didn't expect for someone as young as him to have such full control over the Voice.

"How dare you dismiss my mother in her own house." Jake said in defiance.

"Come!" In turn the Reverend Mother used her Voice to command Jake but the latter remained uprooted in his place.

"Your defiance is strong." She complimented.

"Don't do that again to me, woman." Jake glared at her, making the latter shake. What was supposed to be her intimidation backfired at her.

Even Jessica was shocked at her son's display. She was obedient to the Reverend Mother and to see her son disobey her was very much shocking.
