She was masterful and expertly manipulated his mother into doing what he’d been trying to talk her into doing for the last six months. Lacey took no prisoners. “Genevieve, my I call you Genevieve?” Gray’s mother nodded. “From what I understand, you’ve had a rough night. It won’t hurt for you to take your pain meds this once. You can’t get addicted from one dose.” She took a glass from the tray on the nightstand and poured Genevieve water from the carafe. Gray’s mother docilely took the medication and promptly fell asleep.
“You, young man, are going to eat some stew and go to bed. Anything else that needs to be faced can wait until the morning.” He followed Lacey into the kitchen where the air was redolent with beef stew. He sat down with Enzo, and surprised himself by eating two bowls and two baking powder biscuits. As soon as he finished, Enzo sent him to bed.
After Gray checked on his mother, he slipped on some sleep pants and a T-shirt and went to sleep.
