章 103: Gathering
Meanwhile in a hall of black cloaked figures surrounded by gloomy old ruins, pillars and statues, one of the cloaked figures spoke. "Is there a report back yet?"
They had all been in the same meeting and were awaiting news of the progress of events that were taking place around many different locations.
Where there was chaos and strife in the world, those people seemed to have some part in it.
Either they had people participate in and push events towards a certain direction they wanted and saw most desirable or fun while other times they just had others watch on from the shadows to monitor the situation.
There were so many events that they had played a role in helping them reach their ideal outcome.
If more influences were involved in their schemes and plots then the more they and those they held power over would be able to grow in power during that ongoing chaos.
First they created an environment where everyone was in poor conditions and provoked various influences into fighting each other while they took advantage of the chaos to let their people participate and help the side they chose to be the most profitable and successful.
While they were doing that, they did not miss the opportunity to play off both sides of the conflict constantly providing enough resources and weapons along with having their people play a role in the battles themselves to keep the battles going.
The longer the battles went on, the more they could gain from such things happening whether they used it as a way to help their people level up or to turn a profit.
Each of them were allied together due to their mutual love for war and chaos or they just sought to profit during the times of war.
War was usually a very profitable time for merchants, mercenaries and arms dealers so it would not be strange for the group to be heavily involved with such activities too along with a much wider variety of taboo practices.
The cloaked figures remained in place until someone came rushing inside and fell down onto their knees before those figures. "They are dead.. all dead. The plan has been discovered and dismantled by the Seshat Familia after sending out 'Little Witch'!"
One cloaked figure shook like they were startled slightly then took some time to compose themself. "What about the group we sent to kill the 'Little Witch'?"
There was a heavy atmosphere inside the room as they awaited the answer but it seemed like many had understood that more bad news was coming.
The newly entered person hesitated before speaking up again. "The Bloodhound Mercenary Group.. they tracked their target as ordered but they have all been either killed or captured.
No word has returned back and the site they headed towards was littered with the blood left behind from the battle. It seems that the area has been quickly cleaned up so unless we have plans on digging up the recently filled up holes or searching among the burned remains, we cannot confirm how many are dead."
He implied that some could have been captured alive and they could confirm it if they took such actions but it was very difficult to do so since the area would be a location that would be difficult to conduct their activities within for some time if they wished to continue to remain unnoticed.
Their place was usually best suited to being in the shadows so they could not afford to have one of their people noticed and followed during such a time when their plans were about to be pushed forward.
If there was someone captured alive then there was nothing they could do about it anyways unless they planned on declaring war with Visa City and the Seshat Familia.
Taking such a direct approach was seen as unprofitable and too risky so it was something they would not waste their manpower and resources on unless the the person being held had been confirmed to be held still alive and was valued enough to take such action.
The cloaked figure that spoke previously spent some time shaking like they were either angered or feeling restless after hearing such news knowing that they could do nothing about it. "And.. is the target dead?"
They hoped that even with the loss of one of their pawns and others they had been putting to use for such schemes to weaken the power of and cut off contact from the outside world from Visa City, there had to be some minor gain from it all.
The hands of the person who was giving the news balled into fists as they weakly said. "Still alive… some of our scouts have reported back that she returned back to her Familia and rumours have reached the outside that she had come back unconscious but she is still well."
Upon hearing that Mallory was still alive and she was only in such a state without there being a greater amount of harm to her body or health that could ruin her future, the whole group of cloaked figures began to ponder over the matter leaving the subordinate kneeling nearby.
They started to assess the effects their failure would have on the bigger picture of their plans along with the overall threat that Mallory posed to everything they had been working towards.
One of them voiced their opinions. "For her to be able to deal with 'Bloodhound' Ren not too long after levelling up to level two, I believe that this 'Little Witch' is not to be underestimated.
We can try to wait for another opportunity and try to move other plans forward but judging by the recent news, 'Little Witch' has either defeated the 'Bloodhound' Ren alone by luck or skill which is very surprising or another had intervened in the matter.
This only proves that her threat level could be much higher than we believe it to be or that she could be used as a means to draw more of our people into the open. Do not forget that Seshat is quite smart and still has some useful Familia around her.
If that is true though… it means that a vulnerability could be created if she is playing such a dangerous game. How we proceed will determine how much we could gain or lose making use of such information."
They were aware that Clarice's group had returned but it was unlikely that she would be willing to do such jobs like babysitting some new group especially if they had different goals in the Familia.
If Clarice was ruled out then the most important person that could remain by Goddess Seehat's side was Oars.
If Mallory was truly being used as bait to let Oars set up a trap then it was likely that Clarice and others in the Seshat Familia were left to keep Seshat safe from harm.
How they would interpret those things and how they would act upon them would determine how successful their next set of plans would be so they kept discussing long into the night on how they would proceed.
