章 23: First Main Quest

Samael drown himself in silence as he locked his mind on the people has done him wrong, he would not rest until he has paid them back for what they did. It's already become his purpose in life as the embodiment of the bad karma they accumulated.

None of them would get away from his vengeance even if they ran to the end of the world.

The Divine Sanctum of Divinity, Cyrus, Vivian, and even Lily, each one of them is inside Samael's list of vengeance. For killing innocent people, for killing his family, and for robbing him of the future that should've been his destiny, they would be sorry for doing what they did to him.

But before all of that, he needs to become way stronger than his current state.

Affirming his mind of what his end goal would be, Samael stood up while still clenching Norman's ring in his hand. For the first time, he needs to think and act alone without the help of anybody.

It feels lonely, but he needs to get used to this.

'Maybe going to the city is not a good idea, should I just stay in the forest and hunt magical beasts to increase my level?' Samael thought, pondering what is the best course of action he can take at this moment.

Fearing that Cyrus and his goons are still in the city, he decided to stay in the forest.

Norman said that this forest hosted quite a bit of magical beasts that are varying in power, and Samael can start building his strength from there. 'I don't know how strong those Imps are, but it's safe to assume that they are at least as strong as second to third-rank beasts'

As per the Mystic Mage Consortium, magical beasts can be classified into nine ranks.

Magical beasts in the first to second-rank is considered normal beasts, they are strong but can still be killed by normal people wielding normal weapons. Third to fourth-rank magical beasts are called elemental beats, and usually, they are influenced by a specific element that makes them very, very strong.

In Samael's opinion, the Imps should be as strong as an elemental beast.

Knowing that he decided that if he were to hunt then he would start there, he could slowly make himself stronger before he can gain enough strength to start searching for answers behind the tragedy that befall his family.

'Since Lily came out, they should think that I'm dead. And that's good...' Samael thought.

Lily was the one that pushed him into the deep water which is emitting a bad omen, she definitely knows what she was doing and suspects that he died the moment he falls and drown in the deep water.

Although the thought of this makes Samael's blood boils, it's best to keep it that way for now.

Just as he was about to go to the forest in search of the magical beasts and start his path to become stronger, he gazes down at his legs remembering that he's still bleeding. It's not as bad as before but it's still hurting him.

Gazing around the place, he decided to leave the open field and enter the forest.

After about five minutes of searching around the forest not far from the open field where he was earlier, his eyes brighten up when he saw a few green flowers decorating the base of a tree which is the flower he was looking for.

It's a flower called Green Briar that contains healing properties.

Spending most of his time before the tragedy helping other mages that would end up injuring his body, Samael has learned a thing or two about medicine. Lily is more knowledgeable than him in this field, but he knows the existence of Green Briar.

Plucking a couple of Green Briar, he folds them together and rubs them on his wounds.

Although it's way less potent than the healing spell a light mage can use, he can only make do with what he has before he started looking around for a fight against magical beasts to become stronger.

The last thing he wanted was to lose to a magical beast and become its prey.

Just as he was rubbing the folded Green Briar to the scratch and puncture wounds around his legs, a notification from the Anti-System stopped his hands abruptly. Samael read the characters in front of him before his eyes slightly widened in surprise.

[First Main Quest has been issued!]

[Linthia Jade Shawcross - First Potential Apostle of the Shadow]

The anti-host has signed a soul-binding pact with the Father of Darkness to gain the power to achieve vengeance in exchange for helping the Father of Darkness to search for suitable candidates to become his apostle. Go to Dipleo City and search for a person called Linthia Jade Shawcross and turn that person into a Demon!

Time Limit: Undetermined.

Quest Reward: Access to the third floor of the Ruin of the Underworld, 10 Skill Points, 50,000 Anti-Points, and 1 Demonic Root.

Quest Failure: Death.

Upon reading the first main quest, Samael can't help but feel the air stuck in his throat.

"Death...?" He mutters as his eyes instantly fixated on the quest failure.

But knowing that he essentially made a deal with a God-like being, he was convinced that if he didn't complete this first mission, he would definitely cease to exist. There's no reason for him to believe otherwise.

Samael can only sigh as he essentially signs his life away.

Although that is reckless behavior on his part, there's simply no other choice aside from this. If he wants to achieve what he wants, then he would need to make some necessary sacrifices.

Additionally, he also just remembered that Lili has become the apostle for the force of good.

The entity that made a deal with him, the Father of Darkness can't make him an apostle but instead he fave Samael his blessing in exchange for him to find suitable candidates that can become the real apostle for the force of evil.

It's a letdown to not be able to become the apostle, but he can't complain.

Even though he doesn't know who this Linthia Jade Shawcross is, he's a little bit jealous as the Father of Darkness took a liking to this person. "I bet this Linthia person is super scary if the Father of Darkness considers him/her to become the apostle" Samael mutters to himself.

Probably a serial killer that wanted yearns to kill and thrive in violence.

'Anti-System, why is the time limit undetermined? Is it up to me when I would try to do this main quest?' Samael asked, if it's really up to him then he could just do the main quest later when he has adequate strength.

But hidden in his heart, he wanted to prove to the Father of Darkness as a worthy apostle.

[Undetermined means the time limit is not fixed, but it can change over time. It could be one year or it could be a week. It's advised for the anti-host to regularly check the main quest to see the changes in the time limit]

'Is that so...' Samael thought before he eventually nodded his head.

Now that he was given a main quest that he would probably need to finish in the near future, Samael remembered that he gained a bunch of skills from absorbing the blessing given by the Father of Darkness.

Since he already learned the Anti-System's basics, he now needs to learn about himself.

'Anti-System, can you show me the skill I gained earlier?' Samael asked.

Not needing more than a second, his vision is now flooded with more purple holographic boxes once again. But this time, he can see the skills he gained earlier alongside the description of the skills.

Infernal Swipe is the only skill that Samael knows as he used it against the Imps earlier.

Under the immense pressure of the situation alongside the Imps that are clinging onto him, he tries to call out one skill as if he was chanting a spell. Amongst the skills, he can somewhat guess what the Infernal Swipe does.

Although it's very risky, it paid off as he was able to break free from the Imps thanks to that.

Mentally counting inside his head, there are seven skills that he gained from absorbing the Father of Darkness' blessing. Aside from the Infernal Swipe, he has absolutely no idea what the other skills do.

[Unique Skill - Devourer of Good]

A skill that will devour good karma from creatures that the anti-host killed and turned it into bad karma that can be used to amplify the anti-host's strength inside the Ruin of the Underworld. Unique Skill is unable to be upgraded.

[Fiend of the Night skill has been learned]

A passive skill that utilizes the inner demonic power of the anti-host, allowing the anti-host to see in the darkness perfectly, and become sensitive to detect creatures with life. Can be upgraded using skill points.

[Pain Tolerance level 3 skill has been learned]

Suffering the pain from absorbing the Father of Darkness' blessing, the anti-host's tolerance to pain has been honed to an unbelievable degree. Can be upgraded using skill points.

[Unique Skill - Walker of the Underworld has been learned]

One of the innate skills provided by the Anti-System, allows the anti-host to go to the Ruin of the Underworld at will. The Ruin of the Underworld can act as a training ground or even a hunting ground to gain exp that can be used by the anti-host. Unique Skill is unable to be upgraded.

[Unique Skill - Gate of the Unholy has been learned]

Allow the anti-host to open a hellish portal that can be used to summon obedient Demons that are already subdued. The quota of summoning will increase the stronger the anti-host becomes. Unique Skill is unable to be upgraded.

[Unique Skill - Divinity Protection has been learned]

A unique passive skill that provides the anti-host with some resistance against naturally evil beings.

[Infernal Swipe skill has been learned]

The anti-host's demonic energy would be focused at the fingertips, enabling the anti-host to shoot out demonic energy claws through a clawing motion in the designated target direction.

Samael reads through the skills' description and finds himself with more questions.

Although he now understands the basics of the skills that he gained from absorbing the Father of Darkness' blessing, he would still need to try them out one by one to exactly know what each skill does.

But as he was about to do that, he paused as he heard crowded footsteps approaching.

Glancing to the side, Samael can see more than a dozen sources of light heading his way. Upon seeing this, his eyes squinted trying to see what was going on but he eventually widen his eyes, "Why are they doing here this late at night...?"
