Northbrooks' butler stood outside the guest room door, his hands clasped in front of him. Chadwick's eye twitched, and his face was a mask of apprehension. He felt stuck in the middle of the two men. Their tension could be felt radiating in the air.

The butler took a moment to steel himself. He moistened his lips and softly sighed. He knocked on the door of the bedchamber and prayed no one would answer.

In a matter of moments, the door creaked open, revealing Lord Thorn with an unkempt beard and an exhausted face. Chris was tranquil. He said little, made no eye contact, and his face had a sullen expression. Christopher was not his usual confident self. He displayed a humble attitude.

Chadwick was deeply regretful for The Lord, understanding the awful pain that his employer, Lord Alexsander, was going to inflict on him upon their meeting.
