Words that Mar is single again spread like wildfire, and Liam hates it because it means that all the omegas will line up for his attention now that he's not actively courting anyone. Not only omegas of all genders, but a few very brave betas also joined the line, and Liam doesn't even know if his crush is into men.
Well, Mar is the most eligible alpha of their generation after all, so everyone wants a chunk of him. It's a well-known fact, and another well-known fact is that the only person who can compete with Mar in terms of looks, pheromones and family status is Liam himself.
According to a social media poll voted by 3251 omegas who attend their university, Liam scored 53% while Mar scored 47%.
The black hair alpha couldn't stop laughing for two days straight when it came out, because officially Liam is the most eligible alpha of their generation. However, Liam is also one of the busiest people to ever grace their diamond league university. He's expected to graduate with two bachelor's degrees; nothing more, nothing less. Who has time to talk to an omega, let alone properly court one when he's holding down a full twenty four hours per week in-class lessons, a lab assistant job that's counted as his internship and a TA position for his professor dad at the same time?
The only time he can breathe properly is during the weekends, but those days are spent going to the gym and ogling another alpha he knows so well.
Since dating Liam is out of the question, people turned their heads to Mar. As soon as everyone knows that he's single again, they start throwing themselves at him.
Which brought Liam to his current problem...
"You can have me, forget her." A male omega draped himself in between Liam and his beautiful alpha. "Her" referred to Mar's faithful ex, Laura.
Omega pheromones were detected in the air, and Liam grimaced because holy hell, they're within the sense distance of the two very alphas right now. This is a dangerous move because any alpha with less moral value would take the poor thing right there, but Mar is drinking to recover from a break up, and Liam is too busy trying to help Mar recover from said break up.
After a few minutes of soliciting Liam, the omega had enough of his attitude, so he decided to go for the heartbroken alpha instead. Mar blinked at the omega, his long black eyelashes almost touching his high cheekbones. Under the neon lights, he looks like a young god... His cheeks were stained red from the alcohol, giving the impression that he's drunk, but Liam knows the alpha is far from drunk, he's just two drinks in, and Mar isn't a lightweight by any means.
Liam gently nudged the omega away so he could press his bicep against Mar's, and then he leaned to whisper to the other alpha.
He kept his voice low, but loud enough for people in front of them to hear. "Mar, you look like shit. Let's go back."
"Mn." The alpha immediately responded with a nod as he pushed the omega off himself and stood up. "Take me home, bro."
"On it." Liam stood up from the sofa and stretched. He could feel eyes on himself, but lord, he doesn't care.
"You don't have any more finals, do you?" Mar's voice sounded closer to him than expected, and Liam just nodded. "Good. Let me get one more can of beer, then we can go."
"Just one, okay?" The alpha reached to grab one from a bucket of ice, and he placed it inside Mar's hands.
"Thanks, Liam." The shorter alpha cracked it open, and before he took a sip, his magenta eyes met Liam's for a second. "You're my entire world. Where would I be without you?"
Blue eyes looked back down at Mar, and the alpha felt heat rushed to his ears and cheeks. He blamed it on the two cans of beer he had with the pepperoni pizza.
Plush lips removed themselves from the can as Mar looked at his friend since he hadn't responded in a while. Liam wanted to lean down and claim those lips as his, instead his mouth ran and said something else entirely.
"I'm your babysitter, Mar. Now shut up before you say something you'll regret in the morning."
Mar let out a laugh, a genuine laugh where his voice cracked and the edges of his eyes watered. "Liam, I..."
Just as the alpha was about to say something important, a pair of girls approached them with plastic smiles and colorful lipsticks. Their heels clicked on the ground, and people got out of their way without them saying anything. Well, they rather enjoy the party than getting into an argument with the hosts.
"Leaving so soon?" Kelly, the hostess of this party, pouted.
To be honest, after his final, Liam promised a beer with Mar. Kelly and her sister Emilia just happened to throw a party in their apartment. Thus, the two alpha decided to stop in for some free food and beer.
"Liam, I..." Purple eyes diverted to the girls for one second, and they're back on the alpha. "I'm gonna puke."
"My dude..." Liam sighed. Even though he knows damn well it's a cover up, he gotta react accordingly to keep his buddy's cover, starting by picking the beer can out of Mar's hand and place it one the coffee table. Then, blue eyes looked at the girls. "Where's the bathroom?"
"Oooh." The younger girl pointed in a general direction, her pastel pink nail glowed in the dimly lit room.
Along the path to the bathroom, there are several more people passed out on the floor while a dozen more are dancing to some electronic music.
"Thanks." Liam pushed Mar's back into said general direction, and two pairs of eyes followed them, a dozen more pairs joined in as they walked through the room.
"Is he alright?" Kelly asked, concern laced her voice.
The taller alpha snapped his head to smile at them. "Yeah. It's normal. He drinks a little too much in a short span of time. I gotta make sure he gets it out of his system."
"You take care each other..." Emilia nodded as if she's just discovered a breakthrough in science and technology. "Just like us omegas do. It's rare to see you alpha males take care of each other."
"I'd like to have my friend alive and well, thank you very much." Liam patted Mar's shoulder and nudged him into the bathroom. The shorter alpha didn't complain as he's being pushed inside the dark room.
The two sisters followed them still, and their eyes were always observing.
"He's still not over Laura yet?" Kelly's voice irritated Liam beyond belief. "She's kind of a bitch, and she's after you now, Liam. It's smart to not give her a chance."
"It's been one day since they broke up." Liam gently ran his fingers over Mar's back as the alpha hunched over the sink, his slender fingers turned on the hot water. "Give the guy a break, girls. It'll take some time until he's back to normal."
"And what about you, huh?" Emilia's eyes were also getting on his nerves. "Are you going out with anyone?"
"Of course, not." Liam was about to scold the younger girl for even having the audacity to ask him that, but Mar suddenly gripped on his T-shirt.
His wet hand soaked the alpha's white T-shirt, and Liam promptly turned off the water. Mar coughed, a fake one that only Liam could tell.
"I gotcha, buddy." The alpha lifted Mar's arm over his shoulders, half carrying him. His blue eyes looked at the girls once again. "Thanks for inviting us, Kelly, but I can't stay when he's like this."
"You really are his babysitter." The older sister snorted as she watched Liam pulled Mar out the door.
Two second after the door was closed behind them, the shorter alpha stood upright and patted Liam's chest. Purple eyes looked up at him, and a small smile bloomed on his lips. "Thanks. Now I want some good food and wine."
Liam couldn't help but smile back. "My place or your place?"
