章 286: Geared Up
Crynn POV
So, Geographical is apparently the easiest job. All I have to do is literally to sit in front of 6 different computer screens and basically press a button every time one of the readings on the screen have gone flat and so far, it hasn't gone flat, it has stayed stable for the entirety of the last 30 minutes since we have gone into the oceans.
This is no shark tank however so we'll be fine from any underwater creatures and investors out to get a piece of me. "Ahem... Attention, I have done it, everyone can now go up to the ventilations control room, over," finally, I'm about to go crazy here looking at this array of statistics without actually knowing what each of them are actually used for.
Simplified, I'm sitting here in boredom with a cup of coffee some random dude placed on my table and a box of cold bagels that had lost all its crisp. I'm getting out of this job and no one will have a say on it except me and... Jill. I stretched for a bit, moving my tired arse up, let it be known that submarine seats aren't very comfortable.
I escaped my station to remind myself on one predicament which is trying to find where the ventilation control room is. Just trying to rearrange where everything is inside my head, up the ladder, the door is next to the dispenser. But first, I need to get my duffel bag. I managed to traverse myself in this big yet tight submarine, squeezing through the crew members also walking around me as I found my quarters, gripping my bag firmly on its hold.
So atop the ladder and... let's see, where is this water dispenser, of course it is in the direction from where the people are getting their cups filled with water from, got'cha. I tracked where the crew are getting their soda drinks, cocoas and coffee from as I found the dispenser. It's a large sized dispenser with multiple buttons to press and modes to function but I'm not going to do anything with it.
I found the door next to it and knocked twice and a second passes, once more. The door opened revealing Jill as she pulled me in and shut the door tight and locked. Turns out, "Looks like I'm last to arrive, I must have the furthest station," because yes, I am the only one working down a floor while the others have their jobs on this floor.
"Well, no dilly-dallying let's get to work fellas, we have a long day ahead of us," Jill commanded as we fell on her beck. I opened my duffel bag shuffling random pieces of cloth serving as veils aside to get what's concealed beneath, a full pack of bulletproof gear, top Arasaka quality. Remind me again, V, where did you get these from?" Calian asked.
"When the Aldecaldos stormed Arasaka Tower, we lost a lot but we gained a significant profit, no not significant, life changing. We acquired all sorts of blueprints, codes, tech, you name it, equipment. This was one of them, an in-development Arasaka full-body bulletproof protection ware."
"This is better than anything on the public market but on the private market, I can't be too sure about it, after all, 'in-development'. But, being in a bulletproof suit doesn't mean it doesn't hurt when shot, it still hurts like hell but it won't kill. How do I know that, simple, I tested it myself," I'll take those words seriously, very seriously, I don't want to ever get shot.
"And the helmets? They're bulletproof?" Aria questioned as she pulled a black full-face helmet out, tapping onto the visor. "Yes they are, though it's not recommended to be shot more than once on the visor, high chance it'll shatter on the third shot but for the rest of the helmet, it's the same as the bulletproof armor, won't kill but will hurt, maybe dislocate the jaw, crack your nose," that's no assurance.
I first strapped the bottom greaves, then moving to the poleyn, cuisse, then on the chest, the plackart, to my entire arm, flexible gauntlets, neck protection, all that's left is the helmet. This armor surprisingly isn't as stiff as I thought, there's drawbacks of course, I can't move as swiftly but it won't be a problem. It weighs about 5 pounds, around 2 kilograms, nothing I can't handle.
"We look like High Table Enforcers in these," sorry, but while I know who about the High Table, I don't understand enforcer, I haven't watched the third John Wick movie. "Who are High Table Enforcers?" V is confused. "They're a private army owned by a massive organization. They are dispatched only when something needs 'clearing' to do and they are pretty much bulletproof except of the visor that is," Aria replied as she finished gearing up as well.
"So, everyone is ready for a party, now, for me to drop the bomb," that's a pun right, I think that's a pun. One last remaining component is the thermal vision goggles which will be attached to the helmet. We won't need any additional air filtration attachments however as the helmet already came equipped with it.
"Helmets everyone, this room is also connected to the ventilation so it wouldn't be funny if anyone got suddenly fell asleep," all of us fixed the helmets on our heads as we raised a thumb. Jill is the only one not wearing a helmet, but an air filtration face shield. "So, the moment, the gas rolls is the moment I'm deactivating all interior cameras and turret defense systems, you'll have a clear path."
"Sweep the bottom floor first, we don't want anyone down bottom to surprise us above. I'll constantly have my eyes on every one of you, I'll immediately tell you of anyone close to your position and like Crynn have told us on earpiece communication, try to keep bloodshed to a minimum, shoot their legs, incapacitate them, all set, so are we at a good to go?"
"Yes chief," Calian slurred as Jill nodded, "Good, it's night time, time to sleep."
