“What the hell are you doing, Allison?” Brent shouted angrily.
“Why are you with her, Brent?” Allison cried in the most pitiful voice.
“That is none of your concern, Allison. It's over between us! It has been over. Now, you need to get over it!” He said, as his face turned red with anger.
Sukie had never seen Brent so upset before. He grabbed her hand, pulled her out of the drama, guided her to the stairs, and left the chaos behind them.
“Come on.” He said as he stormed upstairs, never letting go of Sukie’s hand.
Sukie’s eyes were seeing blood red, but she listened to Brent and followed his instructions. His voice and his touch were calming her down somehow.
After arriving at the top of the stairs and heading down the hallway a couple of doors down, they entered a room that was amazingly beautiful in its royal blue, cream, and silver colors.
The room smelled like lavender. Everything was perfectly clean and in its place.
The marble floors led to a huge, picturesque balcony. The room was breathtaking.
Brent locked the door behind them after walking into the room. The click made Sukie jump.
“Are you ok? I didn’t mean to scare you.” He asked, noticing her reaction.
“I am fine. My body is just in rage mode right now. I am a bit on edge.” She replied.
“You are safe here. I got you. I just need the wild animals to stay outside for a minute.” He said in the most soothing voice.
“I agree.” Sukie said, still calming down and convincing herself to let go of the event that had just taken place.
Brent walked away from Sukie and returned with a towel for her to clean herself up. She sat down on the gold chair near the dressing table to focus on drying out the champagne.
“Ugh, my parents are going to think I was a drunken monkey with this champagne smell on me.” She complained.
“Well, you would be a very cute drunken monkey.” Brent said teasingly, as he watched her every move.
“Good thing the champagne didn't get into my hair. There would have been no calming me down then.” She said, totally annoyed.
“I was a little afraid for her. You are pretty strong. Abel had a hard time holding you back.” Brent said.
“Allison really annoyed the hell out of me. She’s lucky you guys were there.” Sukie said rolling her eyes.
“I know. She annoys everyone. It’s like, her specialty.” He said, shrugging his shoulders.
“I guess it is because she is very good at it.” Sukie replied, running her fingers through her hair as she smoothed it out.
Brent and Sukie locked eyes for a moment and the butterflies returned.
Oh my goodness, this man is fine. She thought.
Brent was dressed in a black, buttoned-down, long-sleeved shirt that he wore rolled up, with dark grey slacks. You could see how physically fit he was through his clothes.
Sukie couldn’t help but wonder what he looked like without clothes on.
“Hey Su.” He said, as their eyes caught once more.
“I’m sorry, he said with a little sadness in his voice. You didn’t deserve what happened downstairs. I wish I could have stopped it before it happened. Allison is crazy. She thinks she owns me, and we don't even speak.” He explained.
Sukie could tell he was totally annoyed at her behavior. She stayed silent and just listened to him as he moved his hand toward her hair, gently combing his fingers through her locks.
“I guess her seeing me with you set her off.” He said.
“Me? How?” Sukie asked, totally confused.
“Have you seen yourself, Su?” He asked in disbelief at her question.
“Uhm, right now I look like a wet dog.” She laughed.
He chuckled, touching the side of her face, then gently tilted her chin to match his gaze.
“You are still the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my life. I am glad you are here with me.” He said, softly.
Sukie was at a loss for words. She simply smiled, blushing at him as she continued to dry the champagne off of her dress.
“I saw you when you walked in, and I couldn't wait to talk to you and hold you.” He said, tracing his fingers from her shoulder, down her arm. Goosebumps revealed themselves under his touch.
“You look amazing, Su. I just wanted tonight to be perfect for you.” He said.
Sukie was blushing like the color of a tomato at this point.
“Who said it wasn’t perfect? You’re here with me.” Sukie said, standing up and gently trailing her fingers across his chest as she walked toward the balcony. Her heart raced at her sudden bravery.
She decided to walk outside to get some air. Being so close to such a beautiful man was testing her willpower. She needed to think straight and that was not going to happen with this new Brent.
Towards the corner of the balcony, there was a silver and gold bucket of ice with champagne in it.
“Who is this for?” Sukie asked.
With a shy look on his face, he rubbed his hands through his hair.
Ugh, don't do that! There he goes boyishly playing with his hair like his existence didn't already turn me on enough. She thought.
“I set that up for us. I hope you don’t mind. It’s not what you
might think.” He said, making sure she didn't think he was some kind of creep.
“Well, I thought we were just going to get drunk and get freaky,” She teased.
Brent's eyes opened wide at her statement.
“I am kidding!” Sukie laughed.
Brent knew she wasn’t that kind of girl. She never said things like that. The guys in school knew she was not easy either. She always kept to herself.
“What am I going to do with you Su?” He smiled.
“I just wanted to celebrate your birthday with you.” His voice was so low and shy. It was cute and sexy at the same time.
“That is really sweet, Brent.” Sukie said as he walked over to the champagne table and opened the bottle. It made a loud pop.
He poured some of the champagne in two glasses for them.
“Here is to the most amazing, beautiful girl I have ever known on her special day. May you have a wonderful future fit for the queen that you are.” He said.
They raised and touched their glasses, then took a sip.
Sukie actually took a guzzle because her nerves were going wild after her little joke.
Maybe I was speaking my truth. She thought.
She realized that she was alone, locked in an amazing room with the guy she had been in love with all these years.
He better hope I'm not the creep tonight. She thought as she smirked.
