[Ain't the end of the volume but a plot turning point. From here on the entire plot is thought out and only missing some minor details. And no, no one dies... Ok, main character doesn't die, is what I mean. Anyway, Enjoy.]
Mitsuna stomped her foot as ice started spreading along the floor. She hoped that it would throw off Natash's footwork.
Not even waiting to see the effectiveness of the ice, Mitsuna ran around to the side and jumped.
As she ran, Jameson started creating orbs of fire around the area. They weren't very large but they took little mana yet did decent damage.
Just as Mitsuna had jumped, Jameson threw some of the orbs with a delay so that they could not be deflected or destroyed all at once.
Natash received them head-on as smoke and ice surrounded her.
Mitsuna had finally started falling so she used Full Eclipse and spun as she descended to gain as much momentum as possible.
As she was about to land a direct hit on Natash's neck, it was blocked and all the aura around Mitsuna's blade dissipated. Natash had swung her sword to meet Mitsuna's.
Natash's face was the epitome of horror incarnate. It seemed as though something snapped but a LOT worse.
Black tears oozed out of her eyes as they turned pure black with not a single colour remaining, her eyes were wide open. The very same tears poured out of her mouth, which was hanging open in a smile. It was open so wide some would confuse it for screaming yet not a single sound was produced from her, not even the faint sound of breathing could be heard.
Mitsuna had sweat run up her face, not down because even that could not show how much she feared in that one instant.
Using Sakura Step, Mitsuna appeared behind Natash and was again about to slice but it was blocked.
Mitsuna then took some distance as Natash's current look really put her off.
And as she took that one slight movement, Natash found an opening at her heel and swung. Mere moments before her attack could land, a javelin of fire pushed her away by a few meters.
Right before Natash could respond in kind, the surroundings lit up as the surrounding orbs of fire intensified in heat.
The orbs flew at fast speeds and Natash was bombarded by fire.
Mitsuna was given a moment. A slight moment.
'Natash seems to be predicting our next moves as time goes on, we need to finish this fast.'
Taking a deep breath, Mitsuna focused.
Running through all her Techniques in her mind and their usability at this moment, Mitsuna broke through her first set of Techniques as she obtained Bladework.
'I got it.'
She thought with a slightly surprised tone as she opened her eyes and the aura around her sword returned. It was now more dense and didn't flicker even when the blade was swung.
Without getting into a stance, Mitsuna's footwork flowed like water and her sword followed like a breeze.
'Bladework is interesting. Very interesting.'
At this moment, she knew that she had to receive a similar Bladework for each Technique set she would complete. They could be her trump cards during battle in the future.
Making multiple movements, they seemed similar to how she activated her Techniques. They were being used one by one but the effect did not activate.
So as Mitsuna approached the burning catgirl, the attacks started to land.
One horizontal slice. Sharp petals followed that proceeded to cut deeper into Natash's wounds.
Mitsuna suddenly slightly jumped in the air and positioned herself.
Second, a diagonal 360 slice. Natash lost an eye.
Natash retaliated and slammed her sword into Mitsuna's side while she was in the air.
The impact did nothing as what Natash swung at were petals.
Third, a combo slice attack from the side.
As Natash had lost an eye, she could not react properly and the more hits she took the less she could see from either eye.
Although Natash's mouth stopped spewing black tar-like tears, her eyes did not, even with a slice in them.
Mitsuna's combo barrage did not stop and was often complemented with orbs of flame.
Fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh... twenty-third.
The slices and stabs continued as Natash's body was filled with scars.
Mitsuna was in the so-called 'zone' as she thought about nothing other than the sword.
Every single time that Natash would swing her sword, Mitsuna would switch places out of pure instinct.
A deep slice was finally made on the side of Natash's neck.
A spurt of blood, or rather a single drop fell on Mitsuna's eye. She stopped the barrage, took a step back and watched Natash fall.
Retreating back to her brother, she noticed that he no longer stood. It seems like he used an excessive amount of mana to keep himself standing. Now, he simply sat there. Heartbeat and breathing... still there.
"Brother, do you think it's over?"
"It's best to check."
Her brother activated his skill at the same time as Mitsuna. What they saw was that Natash's Health was dropping without stopping, she currently still had a few thousand Health points left but they should be drained to 0 in a minute.
As Mitsuna sat down next to her brother and laid her head on his shoulder, she took a deep breath out and started hyperventilating.
"You okay, sis?"
"Yeah. It just... took a lot. Of stamina that is."
"Rest up. We need to start moving soon. We can't stay here for much longer."
"Why?"
Mitsuna asked in between breaths.
"We don't have any reason to stay and I still have my worries..."
"About?"
"An illeg-"
Before Jameson could finish, the sibling could hear clapping behind them.
Two claps in quick succession almost like giving a signal then followed the original slow clap.
"How very well done children."
As the feminine voice said, countless people in doctors clothes showed up from behind the rubble.
"That beast was really dangerous. But above all," Mitsuna turned around to look at the woman with her weapon in hand.
"So very interesting."
As Mitsuna made eye contact, the large figure in front of her slightly bent down as if appraising the siblings.
The woman was tall. Very tall. 10 feet as in 3 meters tall. She was plump and seemed to wear a makeshift lab coat that had a few details taken from a trench coat. She had hair that seemed to be pure snow-white when you look at it from any position yet when you are standing in front of her, the hair that is behind her back and head seems to be a light pinkish violet. It was a strange phenomenon. Her eyes on the other hand were the strangest.
The irises had multiple rings almost as if she had pupils within her pupils that were inside yet another pupil. The rings were coloured black each smaller than the other and constricted each other inside themselves. The colour of her iris was violet but below a certain point, it turned a playful orange.
The woman was strange, no doubt about it. Her skin was pale white and her smile was as if she found a new delicacy.
Before Mitsuna could get a more detailed observation, the woman suddenly frowned as she looked behind the siblings.
"After her."
She spoke as half the surrounding people took off.
Turning around, Mitsuna could see that Natash was no longer there.
By some devil given miracle, she survived on a few Health points and used illusions to escape while the siblings were distracted by the scientist-looking people.
Mitsuna's emotions at this time were in disarray. How was she alive and how did she escape. A single hit would have ended her and she could have gotten revenge for both her teacher and parents.
She did not have a chance to save her so she decided to kill her. It was ger teacher's wish but now in the future if she has a chance to save Natash, would she? Difficult decisions lay ahead for Mitsuna but right now...
"Take these two children already as well. We don't want anyone else to be running away now do we?"
Before Mitsuna or Jameson, who had been silent for a while could react, the surrounding people took out discs and threw them while the woman widened her eyes with a smile.
The siblings were stopped from moving and the discs gave a shock strong enough to knock them out.
With minimal stamina and mana on both ends, they could not endure and fainted.
[As I said. No one died. But someone survived.
