A Neville SI Chapter 7

"yes. It was standing on a trapdoor. It's obviously guarding something," Hermione said, standing up and glaring at them. "Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to bed—before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed or worse, expelled."

Ron watched her leave and shook his head. "She needs to sort out her priorities," he muttered. "You'd think we dragged her along, wouldn't you?" he added as they walked into the Gryffindor boys' dormitories.

Entering the room, Neville saw a furnace in the middle of the room with some socks hung around it to dry, warming up the space. There were seven four-poster beds, all with red bed sheets, and three were unoccupied. Neville asked, "Which one is my bed?"

….

Neville lay on his back, his mouth slightly open as he breathed softly. The early morning light began to filter through the windows, gently rousing him from sleep. He groaned as he opened his eyes, staring up at the unfamiliar ceiling above.

He squinted, trying to get a better look, and then it hit him, this wasn't his usual room. He jolted upright, looking around in surprise. He found himself in a dormitory adorned in red and gold, with seven beds, each one occupied.

Glancing down at his hands, he thought, "So, it wasn't a dream after all. I really am in the world of Harry Potter," he mused, noticing how small and childlike his hands were.

His eyes drifted towards Harry's bed, and he thought, "So that did happen, then," recalling the events of the previous night. "That must be where Dumbledore's hiding the Stone."

He turned his attention to the bedside table and spotted his wand still in its box. Slipping out of bed, Neville carefully took the wand out, and the moment he touched it, he felt a faint hum as if it was resonating with him. He had the urge to try out some spells but stopped himself. he didn't know any yet, and he certainly didn't want to wake the others.

Putting the wand back in its box, he opened the top drawer and found his Hogwarts uniform neatly folded inside. Noticing he was still wearing yesterday's clothes, he decided to take a shower, especially since his stomach felt a bit uneasy.

He found his towel in the bottom drawer, gathered his clothes, and quietly left the dormitory. As he stepped into the corridor, Neville thought, "Where's the bathroom?" He wandered down the hall for a few steps before spotting a door with a wizard's head carved into it. Guessing it might be the bathroom, he opened the door to find a communal space with several bathtubs.

After taking a bath and getting dressed for the day, Neville walked back into the first-year dormitory. As he approached his bedside, he noticed that his bed was already made. "Must be the house elves," he thought, slipping his wand into the designated slot in his trousers.

He glanced at the books on his table and wondered, "Is it a weekday or the weekend?" He wasn't sure if he had classes or if he was free to explore.

With a sigh, Neville decided to leave the dormitory, still pondering what to do. He made his way down the stairs that led to the common room.

As he entered the common room, Neville took a proper look around for the first time. Yesterday, he'd been too tired to notice much, but now he saw that the room, like the dormitory, was adorned in red and gold.

The clock on the wall showed it was 6:28 in the morning. A few early risers were already up, some quietly reading while others chatted with friends.

Among those reading was the bushy-haired witch herself, Hermione. Recognizing her from yesterday, Neville thought, "I could ask her for help."

Neville walked over to where Hermione was sitting on a couch near the entrance and greeted her, "Umm... hello there. Sorry, I didn't catch your name yesterday." He played along with the amnesiac role since none of them had properly introduced themselves to him.

Hermione looked up from her book, and upon seeing Neville, she said, "Oh, Neville, it's you. Right... I'm sorry, I'm Hermione Granger," she said, extending her hand for a handshake.

Neville nodded and shook her hand. "Nice to meet you, Hermione. I'm Neville Longbottom, though you might already know that." Gesturing to the empty spot next to her on the couch, he asked, "Is anyone sitting here?"

Hermione shook her head. "No, it's free." Neville sat down, and she asked, "So, you don't remember anything from the past two weeks?"

Neville shook his head. "No, the last thing I remember is waking up in the Hogwarts hospital wing."

Hermione then asked, "So, what were you doing out so late yesterday? I doubt Madam Pomfrey would've just let you leave without someone to escort you back to the Gryffindor common room."

Neville shook his head and replied, "Madam Pomfrey discharged me yesterday after lunch. My grandmother took me to Diagon Alley to get a new wand since my old one broke when I fell off a broom. It took longer than expected to find a wand that suited me, so I ended up getting back to the castle quite late."

Hermione nodded in understanding. "Oh, I see…"

"Can I ask you a few questions?" Neville asked. "What day is it, and do we have classes today?"

Hermione nodded. "It's Friday. On Fridays, we have double Transfiguration in the morning, then History of Magic, and double Potions after lunch."

Neville sighed inwardly, thinking, "Just great. I have to sit through Potions with that git, Snape."

He then asked, "Could you show me which books we need? I wasn't sure which ones were for which subject."

Hermione nodded enthusiastically. "Of course!" She reached down to grab her book bag, which was leaning against the couch near her feet.

Hermione took out the books and showed them to him. "This is for Transfiguration: A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch." Then she pulled out another book, "Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger for Potions, and A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot for, well, History."

Seeing the books, Neville nodded. "I think I saw them on my dresser." He stood up and asked, "Could you wait here while I go fetch my books?"

Hermione nodded, and Neville quickly rushed up to the first-year boys' dormitory. Walking over to his bedside table, he found the three books. He also grabbed three notebooks labeled 'Transfiguration,' 'History,' and 'Potions.' After emptying his sling bag, he stuffed the books and notebooks inside.

Slinging the bag over his shoulder, Neville left the dormitory. On his way out, he noticed that some of the other boys were starting to stir and wake up.

Re-entering the common room, Neville walked back to where Hermione was still reading. When she saw him, she closed her book and said, "We should head to the Great Hall for breakfast." She slipped the book back into her bag and stood up.

Neville nodded and followed her out through the portrait entrance.

As they exited the Gryffindor common room, Neville glanced back at the Fat Lady's portrait before turning to Hermione. "What floor are we on?" he asked, having lost track of where the Gryffindor common room was.

"We're on the seventh floor," Hermione replied.

Neville nodded, thinking to himself, "Seventh floor. no wonder I couldn't find it on the fifth."

As they walked, Hermione began explaining that they were in the Gryffindor Tower, pointing out different floors and what was on each one.

Neville then asked about the room where they had run into Filch the previous day. Hermione told him it was the Trophy Room, where all the trophies people had won were kept, and it was located on the fourth floor.

As they continued down the corridor, Neville couldn't help but notice that Hermione was quite the chatterbox. But instead of finding it annoying, he found her eagerness endearing. just a kid trying to make friends.

After descending a few flights of stairs, they arrived at the Great Hall and entered through the open doors.

As they stepped inside, Neville noticed many students already seated, eating with their respective groups. At the front of the hall, a few professors were having their breakfast as well.

Neville then looked up at the ceiling, expecting something magical. He saw candles floating above them, but otherwise, the ceiling looked quite ordinary. He thought, "Huh, I thought the ceiling was enchanted to show the sky outside… maybe that's just at night."

His thoughts were interrupted by Hermione calling out, "Neville, come on!"

He followed her to the right-hand side of the hall, where they sat down. As soon as they did, breakfast appeared on the table toast, sausages, and eggs.

They began eating, with Hermione continuing to explain the differences between the houses. Neville listened attentively, nodding along as she spoke.

As they ate and Hermione explained things to him, the Great Hall gradually filled up with more students coming in for breakfast.
