章 479: What Was This?

Everett wanted to go home. Things were much less confusing when it wasn't just the two of them. This sort of thing wouldn't have happened there.

He missed the stability and predictability that he'd had since becoming one of Duke Francis's knights. Nothing here felt stable or predictable aside from Lady Josephine giving him treats and smiling at him so warmly. 

He didn't know what he would have done without her. If he had ended up here alone…how would he have survived? He could have gotten into some serious trouble because laws and such worked differently here. Walking around with a sword would have been enough to get him arrested. 

As much as he hated that Lady Josephine had been stuck here on her own long enough to acclimate, Everett could acknowledge that it was for the best because she had figured out how to survive in a way he wouldn't have before something bad happened.
