The middle-aged man in the hunting group conjured various scenarios in his mind before solemnly nodding. "Miss Song, you need only to complete the formalities at the city guard; I will ensure that the matter regarding Liu Shui-lin being used as a pawn is properly addressed."
Song Shi raised an eyebrow, realizing he had agreed to take action regarding Wang Danyu.
"Well then... I shall not intrude further on your time with your son," she said, stepping back and turning to leave.
As she closed the door, the sounds of Liu Shui-lin's cries and his father's frustrated reprimands reached her ears.
Song Shi followed the officers away.
Having answered nearly all their questions and with special consideration granted by Liu Shui-lin's father and the captain, she was permitted to leave.
Upon exiting the interrogation room, she entered a lounge where Tang You awaited her on the first row of chairs.
Chen Lishu was also present, pacing around the open space in front of the first row.
As he turned to walk back, he spotted Song Shi and quickly approached her. "Xiao Song, are you alright?"
Seeing her covered in blood, he hurriedly added, "I didn't expect you all to be released so early. I got... caught up and couldn't get away; I didn't know they would resort to such violence."
Tang You stood as well, silently offering Song Shi a bottle of water and a pack of wet wipes.
Song Shi accepted them, turning to Chen Lishu to say, "There's no need to blame yourself."
She had known all along that Wang Danyu would ensnare Chen Lishu, preventing any contact. Hence, she used Liu Shui-lin's light brain to communicate and did not consider calling him; she directly reached out to Tang You instead.
Taking a seat, Song Shi twisted open the water bottle and took a sip.
Her lips had cracked from dryness, and her throat felt parched, each word she uttered burning painfully. As the cool water filled her mouth, the hidden taste of blood surged back to the forefront of her senses.
The blood that had sprayed across her face and filled her mouth came rushing back.
As a reflex, Song Shi spat the water onto the ground, a faint pink hue staining the floor.
Chen Lishu jumped back in shock. "Where are you injured? Aren't you a healer? We need to get you to a hospital!" He grasped her arm in urgency.
Song Shi waved her hand dismissively. "It's not my blood."
Chen Lishu was momentarily taken aback but quickly diverted his gaze in embarrassment.
Wiping the blood from her face and hands with the wet wipes, Song Shi turned to Chen Lishu. "Do I need to go to the Ability Management Bureau to verify my awakening level?"
He promptly shook his head. "No need. You should rest first. When school resumes on Monday, I'll come to pick you up, and we can go to the Ability Management Bureau then."
Nodding, Song Shi stood up.
Only then did Chen Lishu recall that he still held on to her light brain. He quickly fished it out from his coat pocket. "Your light brain—Li Bingwen asked me to return this to you. He had something to attend to this morning…"
Song Shi accepted the light brain, not waiting to hear his further explanation, and made her way outside.
Pausing momentarily, Chen Lishu's hand trembled, and he hurried after her. "I drove here. I'll give you a lift."
After Tang You provided the address, Chen Lishu drove them to their destination, repeatedly reminding Song Shi to take care of herself before departing.
Upon their arrival at the inn, Wang Ding was on duty, having already spotted them through the sheer curtain of the door.
The burly man greeted her with unexpected warmth. "Xiao Song's back! Are you hungry? I've still got some food warming in the kitchen; would you like some?"
Song Shi politely declined; she only wanted to shower and sleep, with no appetite whatsoever.
Wang Ding seemed to understand and watched as she ascended the stairs.
After a long absence, Song Shi indulged in a warm shower, scrubbing away the lingering scent of blood. In her room, she found a set of pajamas and casual attire prepared for her, presumably by either Tang You or Wang Ding.
All of it was brand new.
Song Shi felt deeply grateful for their kindness and did not wish to exhaust their goodwill. Subsequently, she transferred eighty thousand Federal Coins to Wang Ding.
While this sum paled compared to their generosity, it was all she could afford at this moment.
Before lying down and closing her eyes, a notification from her light brain signaled a payment alert, accompanied by a brief message from Wang Ding. "Consider this your rent for half a year. Rest well, and be sure to go to school with Xiao You the day after tomorrow."
Reading this message, Song Shi closed her eyes, allowing herself to drift off into peaceful sleep.
Early Sunday morning, Song Shi arose and exited the inn.
She navigated to the location of the nearest branch office of the Hunting Group and boarded a bus.
After disembarking, she walked a kilometer, finally arriving at the office's entrance.
What she encountered was entirely different from the grandiose façade she had envisioned.
From the outside, it resembled a bar; the doorframe was adorned with colorful lights, and the sign bore the constantly shifting name "Night Drunk Bar."
Now, in the morning sunlight, the lights remained lit yet appeared dim in contrast.
In the lower right corner of the displayed "Night Drunk" sign, she spotted fine print: Hunting Group Branch 179.
Standing at the entrance, the automated door sensed her presence, swinging open. A mechanical female voice filled the air, twining with the background music, "Welcome to Night Drunk, where the ambiance of the night meets the intoxicating love and power~"
With this voice echoing in her ears, Song Shi stepped into the bar.
Inside, the tables and chairs lay askew, empty bottles strewn across the floor, while the staff tidied up the space.
Upon noticing someone enter, a young man clad in a purple suit emerged from behind the bar. His waist was so slender that it could be described as "not enough to hold a grip."
Detecting where Song Shi's gaze rested, he displayed no embarrassment, confidently placing his hands on his hips. "Do you like it? Isn't it even slimmer than yours?"
Song Shi wasn't eager to engage in a discussion about waist sizes with a stranger.
"I'm here to find…"
Hearing her initial words, the man's brow lifted, excitement glimmering in his eyes as he leaned closer to Song Shi, raising a hand to cover his mouth. "Are you looking for a boyfriend?"
Song Shi was speechless.
"Not at all; I see this is the office of the Hunting Group. I came to apply for a position."
The man stepped back slightly, propping his chin on his hand while surveying Song Shi's current 'good girl' attire—suspenders and a blouse adorned with floral embroidery. "Are you sure? Are you of age?"
Song Shi shook her head candidly. "No."
"The Hunting Group does not hire minors."
"Are you the person responsible for hiring at the Hunting Group?" Song Shi inquired.
"Of course." The man spread his arms wide, making himself appear even more conspicuous before her. "Do I not look the part?"
Well, since he was indeed the person in charge, Song Shi lowered her gaze to open her light brain, retrieving the business card she had captured during her last encounter with Qin Yi.
"Chairman Qin sent me here."
The man stepped closer, examining the details on the light screen, appearing somewhat incredulous.
"I burned the last card I had, but this is all that remains. Can it be verified?"
"It can indeed," he replied, pressing his lips together. He circled Song Shi once before finally speaking. "Could you briefly share your exceptional abilities with me?"
Song Shi shook her head. "That's not convenient; please process my application first. I am in a hurry."
