章 8: Chapter 8

*Leonora*

I begrudgingly walked to the staff quarters. My cheek still hurt from the slap Jax gave me. I really wanted to get my claws out and go full wolf on him but I had to stop myself. It would have been fruitless. The guards were lurking and so was Claire, who would do anything to put me down.

My wolf was agitated. I knew why but I didn't want to think about it. There was nothing I could do. Jax had his mind made up. I wasn't going to be his Queen and I honestly couldn't care less. And I also had my mind made up, I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of an easy rejection. Rejections are never easy to start with. I've seen it happen a number of times and everyone who speaks about it says it's like your heart is ripped in two. Like a part of you is gone. They said a lot of people get depressed after the experience and some, the weak ones, die from a broken heart.

One thing is for sure, I'm not dying from a broken heart.

But I won't give Jax his rejection so easily. They would have to force those three little words out of my mouth. He would crawl and beg for me to reject him but I won't. I don't mind taking things too far. As long as he gets to suffer the way Noah and I did.

I opened the door to the room and stepped inside. All side talks ended and everywhere was silent. I could not tell what they were thinking and I honestly couldn't care less. All I wanted now was to fall asleep and start making a new plan.

"Nora." Bethany called as she ran up to me. "I missed you so much. How did you get here?" She asked. "Shirley woke us up and told us that a new kitchen volunteer would be coming. I didn't expect it would be you!" She exclaimed as she pulled me in for a hug. She squeezed tighter and I flinched in response. I needed to rest my body. Were the guards so weak that they had to kidnap me after I had fallen asleep?

"Jax sent the warriors to kidnap me." I whispered in her ear before letting her go. She quickly dragged me over to her bed. I felt eyes all over me but I was used to it now. The constant staring and murmuring. Everyone had wanted to know my relationship with Jax but they wouldn't understand and Jax made it seem like he's only interacting with me because I've been disobedient and I've been disrespecting him.

"Tell me everything." She said as we sat on her bed. I narrated what happened after she left my place and how I woke up in the middle of the night to find myself in the boot of a car. I also narrated my interaction with Jax, leaving out the part where he almost kissed me. Did he want to kiss me? I didn't really know if he wanted to but a part of me wanted it to happen. I wanted him to push me up against the car and kiss me, mark me.

That was all just my wolf. I didn't want that. I wanted to punish him and that's what I'll do.

"Do you still have my clothes?" I asked her and she nodded. She pulled out a box from underneath the bed. It was my old box from before.

"I thought that if you don't come back, I'll come and look for you." She answered me and I gave her a side hug in appreciation. "Now that you're here, won't Jax punish you? How are you going to escape that?"

I thought about it. I needed an ally and so far, it has only been Bethany in my corner. As much as I wanted to believe we were still best of friends, she could easily just be collecting information from me.

"I don't know yet. I'll see how it goes. Hopefully, it's something I can manage." I said as I stretched my back. "I think I have a bruise." I said turning around for her to access it. She lifted my shirt up and I heard a light gasp. "Is it bad?"

"Not really but you'll need to massage and rest your back for a while." She said as I felt her poke the spot. She put a bit of pressure and I jerked from the immediate pain that shot through my body. "You can sleep on my bed this night. The mattress is softer than yours."

"Thank you." I pulled my shirt back down and turned to her. "Thank you so much. After all these years."

"I'm not even doing anything right now." She said as she got up from her bed. "Rest well. Hopefully, Shirley would make us sleep in." She said as she walked over to the next bed and sat down. "Hopefully, Alpha Jax wouldn't kill you." She joked. He couldn't. His wolf wouldn't let him. I was destined to be his. The only way we could be separated was for me to reject him. Not even death can tear our mate bond apart. If it could, he would have done it a long time ago.

I laid down on the bed, peering at the ceiling. I needed a new plan to escape this place. The humans would call it a hell hole. The walls of this pack were suffocating and dreadful. Staying here was me subjecting myself to torture.

I needed to be out of here.

My first goal was to scout the area and look out for ways I could escape without tripping off any guard. One thing I loved was that Lycans lived off the grid and this helped me a lot in the human world but it also meant that our form of security were abled bodied men who were trained to kill on the spot.

It still wouldn't stop me from escaping.
