Kai looked up at the ceiling. This battle wasn't without its advantages.
Through the glass dome overhead, he could see the sun clearly, casting a soft, bright light down onto the battlefield.
Sunny weather again today…
"Let's begin!" Violet shouted, her voice full of energy. "Kingler, use Water Gun!"
A thick jet of water shot out from Kingler's mouth, aimed directly at Bulbasaur.
"Bulbasaur, dodge! Use Vine Whip!" Kai commanded.
At his command, Bulbasaur leapt to the side to dodge, while two vines whipped out from the bud on its back, lashing toward Kingler.
"Kingler, dive into the water!" Violet ordered.
In an instant, Kingler plunged into the pool, leaving Bulbasaur's vines striking the water's surface and splashing water everywhere.
Seeing this, Violet smiled. "One on land and one in the water it's hard for either of us to land a hit like this. Looks like we need a change of plan. Kingler, climb onto the rocks!"
"Oh?" Kai raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Are you sure it's wise to give up the advantage of the water?"
Violet grinned. "Unlike Goldeen, my Kingler's still strong on land! Kingler, use Leer!"
Kingler's four legs propelled it up the rocks in quick, sideways steps.
Its eyes, usually dull, suddenly glowed red as it locked a chilling stare onto Bulbasaur.
'Trying to make Bulbasaur more vulnerable with fear, huh?' Kai thought.
"Bulbasaur, don't be intimidated! Use Growth!" he called out.
A faint green glow enveloped Bulbasaur's body. The Growth move would boost its attack power, and with the sunlight, its effects would be even stronger.
Seeing her chance, Violet's eyes sparkled as she gave her next command. "Kingler, use Water Gun now!"
Bulbasaur didn't have time to dodge, and the Water Gun hit it directly.
Although Leer had lowered Bulbasaur's defence, the attack still didn't do much damage, thanks to its Grass typing reducing Water-type moves.
"Bulbasaur, it's our turn to strike! Use Tackle!"
Knowing the potential force behind the move, Violet quickly countered, "Kingler, use Harden!"
Just before Bulbasaur hit, Kingler's shell took on a metallic sheen, making it tougher and slicker.
With a loud thud, Bulbasaur's Tackle hit solidly, forcing Kingler to stumble back slightly.
"Now, Kingler, use Vice Grip!"
Kingler's large claw snapped forward, clamping tightly around Bulbasaur's neck.
"Bul...baaa!"
Bulbasaur cried out in pain. Vice Grip, being a Normal-type move, wasn't weakened by Bulbasaur's Grass and Poison typing.
Combined with Leer's defence drop, it was dealing serious damage.
But Kai wasn't about to give up.
"Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!"
Bulbasaur's vines rose high and came crashing down on Kingler again and again, dealing massive damage each time.
After several blows, Kingler finally couldn't withstand the pain and let go, retreating from Bulbasaur.
"Now it's our turn!" Kai commanded. "Bulbasaur, use Leech Seed!"
From the bud on Bulbasaur's back, a small seed flew out, attaching itself to Kingler.
Quickly, it sprouted vines that wrapped around Kingler, steadily draining its energy.
Violet, seeing Kingler struggle, made one last attempt. "Kingler, get back to the water!"
Trying to escape now?
Too late!
"Bulbasaur, finish it! Use Vine Whip!"
Bulbasaur's vines shot out again, delivering a final, heavy blow to Kingler.
The Grass-type advantage, combined with the draining effect of Leech Seed, left Kingler drained of all its remaining energy.
"K-Kling...ler…"
With a heavy thud, Kingler collapsed on the rock.
"I've lost." Violet sighed, and with a flash of red light, she recalled Kingler.
Only one Pokémon remained now to defeat.
With a serious expression, Daisy stepped into the Trainer's position. "You're strong, but we won't give up that easily. Go, Seel!"
With a flash, she released Seel onto the pool. The grey-white, sea lion-like Pokémon appeared, wagging its forked tail.
Kai pulled out his Pokédex and pointed it at Seel.
The Pokédex beeped: "Seel, the Sea Lion Pokémon. Seel lives among icebergs and uses the sharp horn on its head to break through ice. Its thick skin allows it to thrive in temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees."
"Come back, Bulbasaur," Kai recalled Bulbasaur, then released his last Pokémon, his ace Ralts.
"Ralts, it's up to you!" he called out.
"Raa...lts!"
Ralts let out a soft cry, teleporting instantly to a rock near the pool.
It looked at Seel, and there was a gleam in its eyes beneath its bangs.
"Ralts, huh?" Daisy's expression softened at the sight of the cute Pokémon. "It's adorable. Is it from another region?"
"That's right," Kai confirmed, offering a kind reminder. "Be careful, Miss Daisy."
"What a gentleman." Daisy smiled, then turned serious again. "But I won't hold back just because of that. Seel, use Aqua Jet!"
Aqua Jet cloaked Seel's body in water, propelling it at Ralts with impressive speed a physical Water-type attack stronger than Water Gun.
The move showed Seel's level was no small feat.
"Ralts, dodge!"
In an instant, Ralts teleported out of the way, effortlessly avoiding Seel's attack.
"Psychic types are tricky," Daisy admitted, shaking her head. "Alright then, let's limit its movements. Seel, use Icy Wind!"
A fierce, icy blast erupted from Seel's mouth, covering Ralts and the surrounding area.
The temperature dropped dramatically, and even the surface of the water began to freeze, forming a thick layer of ice.
Although Ralts used teleportation to evade the attack, the freezing environment slowed it down noticeably.
